Thank you very much for the demo. I lost the use of my left three fingers in a very nasty near death accident after 47 years of playing. I was a professional session guitarist, self taught, and then classically trained. I actually gave away three guitars, and sold one. I think now there is hope to still sling a heavy monster guitar over my shoulder once again. Thank you for the encouragement. If you sell lessons on DVD, please let me know. I'm retired now, and this is what my speech therapist for my attention, and concentrtion was talking about. Recovery has been slow, and most arduous. Thank you again.
Good luck and enjoy the journey! :-)
Thanks very much mate...tough, slow, but working.
Nice one, go for it!
I lost use of one finger the same way so I totally feel you man. I always did play slide so now i just do that.
that would be horrible for any musician
i rly feel for u man
Thank you🙌 Great lesson. Now I've got all info I was need. Your channel is my favourite guitar guide on CZcams
I've played guitar most of my life (I'm 61) and never had the patience to learn slide guitar, but since I cut my left index finger on my left (fretting) hand I'm giving it a go again. I've already been through several other beginning slide guitar videos, but this is the best one yet. You are an excellent teacher - thanks mate!
Justin you're too good to be true - teacher. I'm learning from you without even need of a guitar next to me, nor to do it; and I can do it 1-2 hours later and still remember what you've said because you've explained it so detailed.
Sometimes I watch these videos to learn new things, sometimes just to watch Justin mock around with various techniques because he is that good!
My wife keeps asking me where the cap of her lipstick is...
MrJimmienoone LMAO
🤣❤️
Good idea
Lipstick caps are the picks of cosmetics. They are there, then they are not.
I don't have one of those
Justin, You explain things so well. I really like your lessons...
Great stuff - I tried for fun using a deep socket from my tool box -and encountered all the issues you mentioned - I'll try again now that I've watched the video.
Thank you. I'm 51 and just learning the slide. Your video was the first I watched and it's great.
Thank you. Muting is key - thank you for demonstrating this simple technique.
Great work justin. You teached me for 3 years everything I know about guitar and a few more things :) . keep in that way, you are a great person doing a beautyfull work and that is something that the people really appreciate.
Thanks a lot Justin!! I got a slide today and strum a chord in open d-tuning. The screech from my guitar was horrible. After your lesson, my guitar is producing reasonably melodic notes when I'm using the slide. Going to practice a lot with it!
amazing video! wasted the past hour trying to find a video to clearly show me the basics of how to start learning slide. this is super clear and straight forward. HUGE help. thanks a lot
Definitley one of the best people on the net for crystal clear explanations, thank you.
All your lessons cover almost all aspects involved in the respective techniques and really well explained. Thanks for this Video!
Thank you so much Justin, I just bought my first slide last week. And you upload this lesson. I am so thankful! : )
Hi Justin, another great lesson and perfect for newcomers to slide. I've been playing slide for some years and my heroes are Ry Cooder and Lowell George of Little Feat. Also love Michael Messer and Sonny Landreth. I agree with you that for beginners, starting in standard tuning is no bad thing, but eventually you will graduate towards open tuning to get the real Delta sound. A trick I learned from Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top is to tune the first string down to D. That way you can play in standard tuning with the bottom five strings(EADGB) and in open G with the top four strings (DGBD). It's a really neat trick!
You are an excellent teacher. Your explanations and examples provide the perfect level of detail without superfluous information. Thanks for your hard work.
THANK YOU! I've been trying to figure this out for over a year now.
You are great Justin!! I was looking for this lesson for such a long time!!
Great lesson, makes a lot fun learning from you!
Thank you!!!
aaaah. lol I bought a slide and like wft is going on? And that I was this video and got that I don't need to press. ahah thanks
my head hurt reading that
And don't forget a higher action, and heavier gauge strings help a lot too...
Thank you Justin, a very clear lesson, filled with excellent information, as usual.
Excellent lesson, finally got me started on slide! Thanks so much, Justin.
Your videos are really helpful man. When I was first starting with jazz a few years back I remember them helping a lot
JUSTIN, YOU ARE THE MASTER!!! Your teaching and tips are very helpful for us auto didactics.
Muchas gracias.
Of all the slide lessons I found here on YT, and I watched quite a lot, this one is the most comprehensive and understandable! Thanks a lot for sharing!
Agreed! I've watched a lot of tutorials to learn slide guitar and this is the only one that mentions not pressing down with the slide and muting with the right hand.
VERY well explained. This is the first time I've watched one of your videos all the way through, and I'm extremely impressed. A lot of people have the guitar skill, but not the spoken talent to convey what they know - you've got both in spades. I'll be checking out more of your videos, and you can bet that if somebody asks me a question I can't answer, I'll refer them to your videos. Thanks for doing what you do.
Justin is an incredibly talented teacher. Thanks man!
The advice about the muting was really useful! Thanks!
Awesome tutorial!! Thanks for sharing
Always great videos ....thanks again Justin!!!
Where you stick your fingers should be very personal haha
Best slide lesson I ever had. Well, honestly the only one. But I've had a couple slides over the years and never quite worked it out. It's the right hand muting I wasn't getting. Thanks again!
The best slide guitar introduction lesson I have seen and understood looking forward to learning with you some more Justin 👍
Thanks for this very useful detailed instruction. I'll be getting a slide soon and this is exactly the kind of stuff I need to know before I start trying to play with it.
Nice and clear class! Thank you teacher Justin, tbe best for you.
this helped me a LOT. Thanks so much.
Excellent introduction to slide guitar - thanks a lot, Justin!

Hi Justin, great lesson thanks, and I am glad you joined the Guitar Techniques team I have every copy in my music room. Keep up the good work.
Frank
Brilliant lesson Justin, you covered everything (as expected!!!), the tip about vibrato in that you should get lower and higher in pitch is great, this really brings out this unique feature of the slide.
Justin’s lessons are great
Thankyou so much, such a clear and well presented video
Love it been starting to get into slide guitar thank you for the tips love your videos! Ray
Thanks for the lesson. Just bought my first slide!

Up at 5:34 AM on my back porch learning from this using a zippo lighter as a slide. Not ideal but it works lol.
M. Goetz 18 mm socket works like a charm
+M. Goetz Bro when i got into slide i was using BIC lighters lol.. i have a glass slide now but those days were fun lol
M. Goetz jimmi Hendrix used a zippo lighter as a slide
Late great Lowell George of Little Feet used to use a socket allegedly. Well worth checking out if you don’t know them/him.
I've been using the sockets to a socket wrench, it doesn't sound the best but it works
Great lesson. Thank you
This was very helpful. Thank you for posting!
Unlike others you've made this simple and crystal clear....thanks
Thanks man. Just what I needed to get me started!
Thanks! I really want to try slide on an acoustic guitar. I'm a bass player so this will be completely new for me!!!
Thanks for recommending my beautiful heavy brass slides, Justin. I'm glad you like it! Cheers, mate.
Great lesson..! Thank you for explaining the basics of right and left hand muting.
Mate, fantastic video, thanks for posting it up!
Great tutorial man !
Really got this quick, because you explained it very nice
Great looked at a lot of slide lessons this one is the best for beginners that I’ve seen
your lessons are so great ! I'm a froggy guy , (Frenchie) and i can understand all your explantions ! thanks !
Thank you. Very helpful. I have just started on slide guitar after quite a few years as a lead guitarist, but rheumatism in my hand makes slide a viable alternative. I am 75 years old.
I love your muting technique. Thank you for sharing!!
