- Master Seiko Toyama, 10e DAN, born 25 October 1928 and last student of the founder of Uechi-ryu Karate-do Kanbun Uechi, died 10 April 2009 of age 80 years of lung cancer.
Maître Toyama, President of the association he created Zankai, taught in his dojo Zakimi-Yomitan in Okinawa until the end of his life. This is a curtain closes on the ancient history of uechi-ryu.
It is now our role and our responsibility to spread the Uechi-ryu keeping the spirit of Master Toyama who was a sincere practitioner during his lifetime. - Sport
This Was My Karate Master When I lived in Okinawa, I'm honored to have trained directly under his dojo .
I would like very much to know more about him. He has an awesome aura of strength

With all due respect. You guys obviously dont know the history of the development of karate from its origins. This style in particular was a very early style created a long time ago. Ive studied quite a bit of different styles and various modern day style. There is no style thats better than another. It depends on you and your training and what you take in and use. If theres anything thats "mc dojo" its anything thats been modified and brought overseas with no roots to its original. This was a master appointed by the Japanese government.
I was able to train and test at Toyama Sensei's Zakimi dojo. He spoke softly but everyone was in absolute awe when he did speak. So much information he shared about training with Kanbun Uechi.
What an honor and great opportunity.
I love the Japanese cultural demeanor of honor and respect, an example to the world ✨✨🙏🏻
Crazy to me that if i mention honor people think ive been watching too many movies. Nah its them.
Brother this art is from Tamilnadu
This is not japanese culture, this is okinawan.
Right, the honor, the respect, the disregard for natural environment by overfishing especially near extinct species, the open racism even in public schools, the alcoholism through mandatory drinking in the work place, the utter lack of worker's rights like only using the bathroom on your designated break time, the revisionist history like teaching that Japan won WW2, yeah you are right, Japanese culture is all about honor and respect. It must be true, it was in that movie with Mr. Miagi.

My old Karate teacher was just a regular car factory assembly worker. But, when he put his karate suit on and black belt at the local gym, he went from a nobody to a somebody ! He impressed us kids anyway and as far as I know, never had to use his skills outside the gym.

What a fascinating man. Although it is clear that he is a master of masters in his discipline that commands immense respect. I can see by his confident and disciplined demeanor that I have nothing to fear from him, but everything to gain. I did not feel any sense of anger, aggression, or pettiness in his demonstration. He is a master but still a humble student himself. It really must be an honor and absolute privilege to have trained with him. The focus and economy of thought and motion that comes with the wisdom of age and mastery absolutely fascinates me. It really is a treasure.
Sorry Pappa Smurf wouldn't have lasted 5 seconds with Bruce Lee.
Bruce Lee? Sigh...
I wish I was this eloquent, in any of the languages I am blessed to talk. Martial arts as it is depicted now , is far from my humble understanding. It echoes more, the journey to self discipline, self control, compassion (by avoiding conflict, even if the practicioner could harm or kill the opponent, within a second). Much respect to all REAL martial artists.
Truer words have been seldom spoken so eloquently. He captures the essence of the practice. Ichi o, ichi e.

A fabulous demonstration of spirit and body. One of the signs of exceptional ability at that age is minimalism which some will immediately interpret as weakness.

These are very high level movements. They look like energy hits. I can see from the movement of his upper body.
As a UFC fan, I’ve slowly developed an appreciation for Forms (kata). It’s a good way to preserve certain movements through the generations. I’ve noticed higher level fighters have begun to incorporate Karate movements into MMA during the last five years.
Useless in a fight but beautiful to see and perfect the movements. Just like you say, its a beautifull way to preserve the art and movements for future generations. I love all martial arts and full contact but my passion was always karate.

My master was a very gentle man but he had much power. I was in awe of his power. He was Rock Dickerson. ❤
Hey, I’m a jiu-jitsu guy, but I respect the mind, body and spirit connection here.... Self defense is serious stuff and you have to be mentally and physically prepared, a situation can happen when you least expect it, you don’t have time to think it through, it’s living in that moment and reacting in that moment... Your mental and physical preparation is all that you’ll have...

Much respect to his discipline and his art. Shotokan Karate is what Ryu from Street Fighter 2 used, and so it was the first martial art I ever trained. It's strengths are discipline and treating your body with respect. It's downfalls are it is very rigid and does not really teach combat. It is a beautiful tradition that I come back to now and then. It is very important to not confuse combat with tradition. They are very different. Almost like if someone were to walk around speaking like King James today. Both language and the art of combat have evolved.
I think Capcom nowadays retconned Ryu and Ken karate style into some fictional martial art called Ansatsuken (Assassin Fist) after the introduction of Gouki/Akuma, but yeah I recall in the 90's Ryu and Ken was using Shotokan Karate.
@@hanchimanIndeed. As a tribute in the fighting community, the term "Shoto" is still used to describe an archetype of specific characters which share same gameplan and some tools from original sf2 Ryu and ken characters (tastu, hadoken, shoryuken).
