  • In this Iron Hands Metallic Black tutorial I’m going to show you how to recreate the chipped, worn-out black which the Iron Hands Legion sport in the Horus Heresy artwork. With this Rhino as an example, we’ll look at the metallic undercoat, the black topcoat, and how to create realistic chipping effects. Towards the end of the video, I will also give you a summary of the rest of the weathering process.
    Do you want to start a new Iron Hands army? Or perhaps you’re looking for a new metallic black recipe? Either way, this video is for you!

    Great video, would suggest leveling the audio a little better, the music gets way louder than your voice on a phone, so i kept having to adjust volume

    I really struggled to get chipping fluids to work well. It might have been the fluid i was using or the top coat.

      Happy to try and help if you are more specific - I have a lot of experience with how different paints and stuff react

    Fantastic recipe! I've been looking for a nice black metallic recipe for my next project (Cities of Sigmar armour). Any advice for smaller scale miniatures? I assume it's roughly the same?

      Thank you very much! I’d never heard of Cities of Sigmar before, I gotta say (Veteran WHFB player here though!), but yes, for smaller scale minis it’d be essentially the same thing.

    One of my favorite colors to use for metallic black is VMA Black Metal. But ill definitely have to try out this way when I get the chance.

      Sounds good - what is VMA? Vallejo Metal?

      @@TheRaceForTerra sorry but I ment to say Vallejo Model Air Metallic-Black. But its a great color for other things needing a blacker metal. Like my smurf destroyer units.

      Never tried it, but that sounds good! One thing, though: Vallejo Model Air paints are the opposite of the lacquers. I used in this video in terms of reacting to chipping fluid - they will come off in big flakes at the merest hint of water. Do a test piece first!

      @@TheRaceForTerra o I plan to. It's just the color i have used in the past. I'm always interested in different methods and paints.

    Do you think its possible without airbrush ?

    • @TheRaceForTerra
      @TheRaceForTerra  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes, with Tamiya paint in rattlecans and hairspray instead of chipping fluid. More of a brute force approach, but definitely better than painting by brush.

    Muchas gracias por el video, genial como siempre!
    Puedo confirmar que la pintura de Vallejo salta del tiron en grandes trozos cuando se aplica sobre el scratches effect, como me ha pasado en las motos de Legion :(

      ¡Muchas gracias a ti, compañero! Sí, la pintura de Vallejo funciona muy bien pero en combinación con el chipping fluid es muy, muy delicada.

    I've never seen rivets or bolts rust like that. Looked better before that step dude.
