Euchre is so much fun to play. Completely impossible to explain, you have to play open hands at least a few rounds to get the swing for new people
What’s that? Swingers wanting to meet new people? I’m down
@@cynomyS oh god my instructions weren’t clear 💀😂
Lol. That's hilarious. I learned to euchre YEARS ago, and never played it again. I can't remember a thing about this game except that it was a blast. Time to play it again, I think!!
Grew up with my parents, grandparents aunts n uncles playing every weekend when we all got together. Us kids learned by watching them, "helping" partners play cards lol, n learning diff "signals". Still love playing n I'm 54 now. *taught my sons the same I was lol
@@johannaholmgren8088 oh absolutely. Euchre is my favorite card game! Definitely find a group or family to play it again and help you get in the groove again!
"You got a farmers hand."
"Ope, we're in the barn!"
I swear Charlie sees exact moments from my life.
When we’re in the barn we turn our thumbs down and your partner milks them. 😂
Gross
@@chade.7948same!
Jesus loves you!
Gotta milk the cow!
🐄
"It's kinda like Uno had a love child with Bridge while Spades watched" 🤣 hilarious!
And each of those games is better than euchre, along with hearts, and cribbage, and sheepshead, and pickled herring and all kinds of bar offal.
@@jamesdewane1642 I've never played it, but it does sound pretty "offal!"😆
@@StephanieJeanneits a great game and tons of fun. Dont knock it till you try it!
@@jamesdewane1642tell me you suck at euchre without telling me you suck at euchre...
Wait, hold on I got another burn.
You just don't like euchre because you need 3 friends to play it.
Okay thats it have a good one
@@darkhobo Hehe, okay I won't.
Wait a second. They got them to come to their house after all from the pickle ball tournament! 😂
Wore em right down 😂
Love that!😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The apologies man 😂😂
They have no friends 😅
I think I need a deer head for people to talk to when they want to talk politics.
Genuinely good idea.
Just ask Jordan Peele
Make sure it's stuffed full of cotton wool.
Over 1000 likes! Just thought I’d mention in case CZcams decided not to
The more concerned the deer looks, the better
My neighbors tried to teach me euchre one night and I quickly realized that deciphering Linear A would have been easier.
It's just high card wins, and trump suit is best
@@JACpotatos High card of what? Which half of the deck? Do Jacks count? Does the Ace mean anything. What about your house rules? Does the player on my left have a booger? Can the player across from me sing Broadway tunes? What am I doing with 17 cards?
Just drink enough moonshine and everything will fall into place.
@@JeffinBville high card is the higher card... 9>7.... K>J
@@JACpotatos There is no 7 in Euchre. The high card is the J of whatever suit is Trump, followed by the J of the other same color suit, then A, K, Q, 10, and 9 if using. The other suit of same color would be ranked A, K, Q, 10, 9. The opposite color is ranked A, K, Q, J, 10, 9. If jokers are used, they are the highest in all cases.
@@marcilk7534 i was being obvious that high=good. If you're just learning to play, you don't need to know what's in the deck, because someone else will take care of that before the game starts.
To anyone beginning, they only need to know high beats low, trump beats non trump, and trump jacks are best
“Oh, and I forgot to tell you. We play screw the dealer.”
That got me laughing
I know exactly what he's talking about😂
@@nickt_274yup, dealer loses ties
Haha yeah where if everyone passes the dealer HAS to call trump. But we just do a toss in around here
My family has a Euchre tournament every summer. My partner and I came in second last year, but this year I will finally defeat Grandma. I'll win that watermelon, just you watch!
I wish you good luck in defeating the family tyrant. o7
Lmfao both comments 🤣
I have no idea what any of this means lmao
Did you just speak Midwest? I need a translator
Go get your watermelon lyxla2579. Dream big. The world could use more people like lyxla2579.
“talk to the deer on the wall, he watches a lot of cable news” lmao
Learning to play euchre as a kid has to be one of my favorite memories from my childhood. Having my uncle there next to me begrudgingly letting me play for him and then getting so annoyed with every move I'd make. It was fantastic.
I love telling people to just watch and you'll pick it up because experienced Euchre players drop three cards and the hand is over. Then you pass the deck to your partner.😂🤣😂
That was always the most annoying part for me. I’m like no, i could’ve had one of those tricks!
@@Jajaky No you couldn't.
@@Jajaky no because I would lead with my king and that whole draw out the left which would leave me with the right and the 10 so it shouldn't matter, we still win 3.
@@mookz34No, but they feel as though they could've beaten one of them because they did have a higher card. But if those hands were played out one at a time, then that high card would've been Trumped anyway.
@@ethangrieves1989 but I still held my queen off suit for the last trick to trump the off suit card you were still holding. It’s a morale boost for the team
I've played Euchre at least 30 times, and I've had to have it explained to me every time I play
Yes that’s a must, every single time I need lessons in Euchre, play this weekend and by next weekend I am like what is this magnificent card game that has me so confused yet again
As a Midwesterner transplanted in the south, I love these interactions. I also miss playing euchre!
Friends have no idea how to play the game - "No table talk! I'm on to you!"
Did you just RENEG last hand? I KNOW you had a HEART STILL!
Me and my buddy had table talk down to a T.
Dude this is a crossover I didn’t know I needed 😂. The midwestern man with the Holderness family
They've done a couple, but this (and maybe pickleball) was the first where they were clearly in the same place. Someone took a trip to the other, and we're better for it.
“Talk to the deer on the wall, he watches a lot of cable news.” Most serious looking deer head I’ve ever seen 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂 oh my word. I love Euchre and this video so much.
Favorite card game ever! Played over the holiday, thank gosh for my patient dad and gramps who had the patience to teach me and my sisters when we were young. Mom said we were wayyy to slow for her 🤣🤣🤣
Ah, you have the inverse of my parents.
Tell yer folks we say hi!
Ope! Why did I totally hear this in a Michigander accent? 🙋♂️ Tell yer mam I says Hi.
Fortunately that's how I learned it as well. I was lucky to get the table where they explained everything patiently and slowed down so I would understand what was going on. I didn't realize this was so rare!
we do love Euchre in the midwest
especially us in Indiana
What is your stance on Ball State rules?
Where we call the bauers "bars" and play Ace No Face 😁 don't forget 6 handed Euchre
Euchre and Pinochle got me through a 4 year prison bid 🃏
i'm always fascinated: prison for what?
American prison? Never played pinochle behind the fence. Spades, euchre, and dominos got me thru my bid
@@thatoneguy8894 NY state. We'd play dominos too,, bones we called them, but double deck Pinochle was the go too.
We taught our 13 year old how to play euchre the other night. It’s impossible to explain 🤦♀️ It took her a few hands to understand it but our team won!
It's not impossible to explain, I don't know why everyone keeps saying that 😂
@@NoriMori1992it's impossible to explain.
Wow that lovely pickle ball couple did decide to come over.
Euchre and Hozzee are the card games of choice at any family gathering and this conversation played out almost word for word when teaching new players. Great content!
What is hozzee?
You got to make those two some old fashions!
Two of my favorite comedians
Euchre is a great game. Can we get a Schafskopf (sheepshead) tutorial next?
Oh geez oh Pete’s, that video’s gonna be 2-tree minutes minimum.
@@ewiken5529 you’re too funny 😆😆love it!
Im more of a fan of Schnapsen
Yeah gotta say ya aint from Wisconsin if ya don't know how to play Sheepshead.
@jeffparent2159 That's right! Sheepshead is Wisconsin's state sport (besides the Packers, of course).
thought I might learn Euchre, finally. Today was not the day
Liking for the deer on the wall. Taking the heat so the rest of us don’t have to.
Euchre is a great game too
Had this exact conversation over the weekend while teaching the kids to play!! 😂😂😂
I've never heard of this game before, but I want to play.
Its a great game and it's actually not that complicated. LOL
My dad grew up in the Midwest and I love this game
@WDPett Hey, I'm in Texas too. Let's get together for some brisket and euchre!
🎶Don't say it, don't say it, don't say it, don't say it, no one's impressed with what you said, don't say it, don't say it, don't say it, don't say it.... 😂
Originally from STL, I lived in Madison for a couple of years and had never heard of euchre until I moved there. My friends up there played it all the time… even on the boat out on Lake Monona.
Charlie’s partner sits back and waits for their unsuspecting guests to enjoy a few more whiskey sours prior to explaining the difference in big and little bowers……
Shut the fuck up you stupid retard not every one is a gay faggot. He doesn’t have a “partner” he has a girlfriend or wife.
or left vs right bauers (maybe bcz I learned from folks in OH) 😄
@@JoeMCool here in Michigan it's big and little... never heard left and right. Hhmmm 🤔 that's just one more wrench to throw in an impossible game to explain lol.
@@JustMe-ub9yo I'm no euchre expert, but every time I've played with fellow Michiganders who are good at the game, it's been left and right.
@@JustMe-ub9yo Not sure where in Michigan, but up north and in SW it's Left and Right
God I love Euchre!
Pass a bower, lose an hour.
Be careful and don't get skunked.
Except when the Jack of hearts is up and you have a loner in black lol 😂
Can't pick it up without a natural!
you have no idea, this is literally how i feel anytime my family plays euchre. i have been trying to learn for like 5 years and i still have no clue what’s going on
Right, main reason why I don’t go over to her family’s I hate card games.
I love saying the highest cards in the deck are the bowers: left and right jacks... except if they’re not trump... then they’re like a regular jack.
THIS
It's literally the simplest of trick taking games
Did not play euchre but did play lots of canasta growing up in east central Illinois. Color me intrigued.
Grew up playing canasta and cribbage. Learned euchre as an adult. It's fun, but I make the other players slow down so I can figure out what's going on.
This is what the family get togethers look like with my husbands family. We spend the whole weekend playing this
I LOVE when @CharlieBerens and @TheHoldernessFamily gets together!! Best Combo Ever!! Great Banter🤗🤗👍🏼👍🏼😀😀💜🤗
Love your colabs with the Holderness Family
Life-long Yooper, learned how to play Euchre twice, still don't know how to play
Honestly same, as someone from Michigan as well I have been taught to play it so many times....I still have no idea what I am doing 😅🤣
We played Eucher while riding the bus to school in the middle sixties. Still play it to this day.
You should do a Sheepshead tutorial next
Saw this video of yours Charlie and just about fell over! Growing up in North Eastern Ontario, Canada I have tried MANY times to explain Euchre to my Texan wife! As have nearly every member of my family! She just doesn't get our fascination with the game!
hardest game to learn but the easiest to play
Hilarious!!🤣🙌👏
ALL of it! 👍And apparently there's some back story about "Jack Bower"! 🤭
I was invited to join a euchre club shortly after moving to Wisconsin from the East Coast I didn't know WTH I was doing, must confess. My teammate got very upset with me. Because we came in last place! 😂. But hey! We still got to drink for Free that final night! Right!? 😁Cheers!🍻 And Happy New Year Charlie Berens and your friends!🥳 🎉🎊
The Jack Bower reference was to the Jack Bauer character played by Kiefer Sutherland in the tv show “24” where he was a Counter Terrorist agent. The show aired for about a decade back in the 2000’s. Each episode was in “real time” and depicted one hour within a 24 hour period with each season running 24 episodes. It was a great show, but would have been nice to binge watch over a week or two vs having to watch it over 8-9 months, but they always had a recap.
@@bokehbutterfly6544 Oh Wow! 🤭 Sounds interesting. TYVM for the clarification! Yeah, for how you explained this series, sounds a bit irritating! 😉 Since she put him on the couch, I assumed the worst. 😂 Have a Happy New Year! 🥳✌️❤️🦋🙏
- I'm going alone! 😄
Warm memories of playing this at my grandparents... And in college for that matter.❤❤👍😎
Euchre is best played when running from the factory line to the break room when the bell hits and you deal while lighting a smoke, and you get two hands and one smoke finished before the bell rings again, sending you back to the line.
“It’s kinda like uno had a love child with bridges while spades watched” had me dying lmfaoo 🤣🤣🤣
Do one on Pinochle!
this is my favorite card game lmao i play it every time i’m with family
Do you live in the north? Those are-the only states I’ve found it played in

You’ve never played poker?
I say this is my most lease favorite thing ever since Biden got elected
@@toddcook8824 im not a big poker guy and euchre has just been in my family for a while so it’s grown on me an awful lot
I love when you bring the Holdernesses to...the table!
Screw the dealer is the only way to play….
Negative. My house rules say no screw the dealer.
A true midwesterner would comment on how nice the buck is, then have a conversation about deer hunting for 20 minutes
I'm going to start telling people if they want to talk politics to talk to the deer on the wall. (He's a nice, tall 8 pointer)
“Ope weer in the baern” 😂
Love the crossovers with another great creator family 👪 I've had to teach sooo many how to play and this exact scenario holds true
If Euchre is too difficult for you don’t even try Sheepshead.
So true. I can play Euchre no problem, but never could get sheepshead.
I agree! I love Euchre, gave up on Sheep's head.
My parents used to play sheepshead all the time but now they say they can't teach me, and there's more than one variation, so I'm not sure I will ever find out what schneider is.
If euchre is too difficult for people, I just give them a ball of string to play with
I don't think I managed to catch all the rules in those 50 seconds. Lol!
Like the old Ronco ads said, BUT WAIT! There's more!
I'm a Wisconsinite and my family has tried over and over again to teach me this. I just can't 😵💫
I miss plying this game. Used to play tournaments. Live in a state now where people don’t play cards or any games at all. Horrible
No local game stores or table top game meetups? That's sad.
Not even Hearts???
Not even hearts. It’s sad
@@vickywillis521 Geez.
I will never forget my Grandma trying to get my sister to order up diamonds. She cleared her throat so loud while pointing to her ring we all busted a gut. Grandma was a great player just not so good at being subtle. 😂
Penn is so cute. His expressions are so funny. I love seeing these Midwest vs non-Midwest videos. LOL.
I feel like I'm back in college looking at this house! *chef's kiss* excellent nostalgia
I have no idea how to play lol, don't think Euchre is in Australia so this is entirely new
Oh ya missin out now ya
Same never seen it played in Aus. Looks fun though.
Every Midwest kid learns this game my 5th grade year when we had recess this is all we would play even in the snow we would fine a warm dry place and play. Memories I haven’t actually played in years maybe I should try

According to wikipedia it's common in Australia, it's wiki though.
Thank you! I moved to the South years ago and have been trying to explain Euchre to my wife for a while now and I think this is going to help.
I love the Holderness Family!
This is the collab I don’t know I needed
"Talk to the dear on the wall, he watches a lot of cable news." - I LOST it.
Moved from Wisconsin to NY about 15 years ago and this is so accurate. Tried teaching my kids and their friends this game over the summer, let's just say the right bower really messed them up. Every single hand.
Bauer messed me up too. 😭 the ending sucked.
Normally the left bower is what confuses people.
@@bpace2509 I thought the left was the off suit , but my brain said "no" for some reason. I think I thought you'd read high to low, but I guess low to high, which makes sense I guess. Obviously the confusion is real...
This is basically my experience with my first and LAST time trying to play. 🤣
The deer joke was top tier comedy
This sounds just like my family every holiday season. I'm from Ontario.
"He watches a lot of cable news" oh hell that got me a good one thank you
"Uno had a love child with bridge and spades watched" 😂😂 I am dying right now I'm laughing so hard at how accurate that is
More skits with these gems!
"What kind of game is this?" The best ever!
I’m so happy that I understand every term that was used in this short
I love Euchre so much! My father's family played it and it got passed down to me. That said, in NY it's basically unheard of. My cousin went away to college and came back and said that the only people who he ran into that even heard of the game were people from the Midwest. For the most part that statement has remained true in my personal experience.
i am loving these mashups with other content creators.
Euchre will forever be one of my favorite games
It’s unreal how accurate this is 😂
Awesome game. But outside the Midwest we get odd looks
This channel is a gold mine of comedy. Between pickleball and Euchre, Charlie totally nails it. Great supporting cast, as well!
I love euchre and while some people find it hard to explain it’s actually very easy and fun.
Love Euchre! Our grandparents taught my brother and I how to play when we were kids.
Charlie you are the BEST! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! So FUNNY! You are VERY TALENTED! 😁
The deer bit took me out🤣
I love seeing you guys Collab! Good job!
Winning Collab award! 💖💖
omg!
I recently moved to Michigan and everyone plays this. I have asked several people how to play, including the local librarian, and this is EXACTLY what they sound like when explaining it! Hysterical!
(I don't think I'm ever going to learn).
I love this one!!! Great holiday time game with the family.
Ahhhh Euchre was a ton of fun to learn at Uni with friends. Still haven’t convinced my family to play
The deer joke killed me.
How nice of you to have Steve Borgaloogie and Chloe Vanderfleming over for game night!
That deer joke got me dying
I love Euchre!
We have crazy card games like this at our midwest family gatherings too!
My husband and I have this game on our phones. We set it up with Stick the Dealer and Canadian Loaner( if you call up your partner you go alone). I learned how to play 6 handed from my great grandmother with the 2 & 3 of Spaded being the boss cards. Going alone in 6 handed is hard. LOVE these Midwest videos. Oh and Michigan is the true mitten state. M GO BLUE!!!
Oh my goodness! It’s the Holderness fam!
THESE PEOPLE AT ONE TABLE IS ALREADY JUST A GREAT VIDEO 😂
