Dude, I remember learning how to D&D from your videos like what... 5-6 years ago at this point? I was in Highschool still, and now Uni is behind me and I have a job. So cool to see all of these exciting new projects of yours as well. The last years have been jarring to say the least but it's so very good to see people who deserve it go a long way. I'm looking forward to this. Especially the idea of combat having "twists" and figuring out how to deal with it. And perhaps dealing with it in such a way, it might break the morale of enemies.
And of course I love classes and customization, mixing and matching. The setting looks interesting, and the art (especially the map) looks quite fantastical and inspires within me a need to go on an adventure.
You have proven yourself an adept at storytelling and mechanics CJ, you have my interest and a boatload of goodwill. I’ve been a fan of these styles of RPGs, and lately a lot have used an abstract morale system (like exalted where they call it initiative).
Sound the alarm, he's back! I would have never learned how to play dnd without your help. I'm happy to see you're still putting out work and even an RPG, can't wait to see more!

After seeing the video, and now making a second comment, all I can say is just...wow.
The premise is something I love, and even trying to implement into a homebrew 5e setting that is similar (Final Fantasy meets Wuxia style setting) where the world went through a deviating event and only recently people started becoming adventurer's to seek what lies beyond the small continent they live on, with treasure and glory to be gain.
I look forward to the demo pack and the Kickstarter, this is gonna be truly an amazing comback from an amazing channel!

I had to follow-up comment that I still cannot -BELIEVE- CJ's back. I said it before, but I'm still in awe. This video was immediately shared around our group as we eagerly await what sort of next direction this channel goes in.
Your videos are still the de-facto tutorial for some of the most beloved TTRPG games still around, but your ability to present information in a manner that grips people's attention is what ultimately makes them so. I even started watching cool history bros, even though i'm USA and basically had zero pre-context to a lot of the videos, but your animation style, humor, and narration voice is genuinely so compelling that I watched the romance of the three kingdoms series and couldn't put it down.
Even if it's not DND, the idea pitched here piqued so much interest that I couldn't help but listen to the whole thing. I'm totally on board for it, I can't wait to see what else is shown.
I'm curious if you've taken a look at some other TTRPG's in your spare time, though. Your other channel must have kept you busy, but I hope you had time to still sit down and craft some compelling narratives for your tabletop sessions. Your players must be the luckiest son of a guns alive.
As for myself, since your DND videos, not only have I engaged in 5e, but I actually wound up dipping into another TTRPG series called City of Mist (and have also eagerly pre-ordered their Tokyo Otherscape expansion), and am now even trying to use your Call of Cthulu series as a tutorial to start up a game in early 2023.

It was so long ago that the last video on this channel appeared, but I am only more excited about the new project for it.
Man the warlock in the intro brings me back... But this is really helpful. As we know, D&D is really getting out of hand, so most people are making their own systems so they don't have to deal with their legal mess. I'm still sticking with 5e on D&D Beyond for now, until issues arise. After the current campaign finishes, I'm going to recommend we do another system if Beyond decided to give us the finger in the middle of the campaign. This, or the one I am working on, system may be my meal ticket for my table. I'll keep up to date from now on.

Awesome! I’ve been trying to conceptualize and make a DND campaign/fantasy world for a story too. My best friend and I had inside jokes and ideas for such a world as a kid, I’m trying to mark down the best parts for posterity somehow. It’s like a medieval/steam punk world, but with faster than light travel becoming a thing later on when shit hits the fan.

Really interested in the mechanics of this.
Had seen some more narrative focused games before but ironically they had so many options they felt kinda bloated on character creation (like BESM with is effect focused abilities and covering all anime tropes under the sun making some of the abilities seem to repeat or be redundant) and no clear progression, making it a slog to build a character and teach it to a new player and vague to upgrade or progress.
This on the other hand looks far more concise with its class system that has clear rank progression, sounds simpler to explain with its little amount dice and narrative focus but still allowing anime style characters or fantasy like "power of the self improvement/Ki/Qi/life energy etc"
Making Tsunderes and Gap Moe with mechanics sounds awesome

Cool project, have fun making it
The project seems very interesting. Especially since it is so focused on one theme and setting. The current generation of TRPG try to capture most if not all genres within them to appeal to most players. But here there are some clear tendencies to guide the Game Master and the players. I am very hyped for the morale system. I switched to milestones a long time ago, which showed a drastic decrease in enemy casualties, and make my monsters surrender when they clearly lost, but having rules supported by the system is sure to smooth out the experience.
Is there any Beta-testing in the plans? Many problems DnD 5e has (and One DnD will likely inherit) are from the lackluster communication with the player-base and testing.
Testing is being planned. It's part of the demo pack release.

me: This just feels like an alternative to the 5e style, kitchen-sink, high fantasy game. In fact, its not like if some Japanese TTRPG hadn't already done something like this, so why make another one? And wuxia have definienty had many TTRPGs dedicated to them. This is pretty much a heartbreaker.
my neurons: But it's CJ's shit. He made it. And I like what CJ makes.
me: Damn, dis cool. When's more info gonna come out? I wanna dissect the mechanics more! I'd have to figure out how to make people to switch to this later on!
Honest thoughts: moral system are one of those aspects of war-game TTRPG have inherited, but have not significantly iterated it for quite a while. Either its an alternate HP or a side condition attatched to the gameplay loop like a parasitic afterthought where it is... 可有可無。 In fact, I'd reckon that 'indivisualistic, showmanship combat' does not mix with any emphesis on moral. If the core of this game originates from "The Art of War" I hope it holds up to the tribute and integrated deeply with the core gameplay loop instead of just a superficial reference.
