This video has become my most popular video on my channel to date! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for your support!
I'm surprised no one noticed or commented on my hand flinching when that oil popped as I cooked the ham! 🥲🤣Lol!
God bless you all!
Hi I'm going to try your recipe, I'm also making Pernil for the first time 🤞, when you added the rice was it cooked already?
Oh another question, I was only able to find gandules verde is that ok?
@@jim8572 Hi Jim! No, the rice was raw - it was Just rinsed with water. Gandules verdes are perfect! ☺️
@@mariscookingpr Thanks so much, I'm making it tonight, the pernil has been marinating since yesterday, wish me luck. Have a great day.
How much rice ?
I'm puerto rican and have followed many different recipes for arroz con gandules however this by far has been the best, made it for Christmas and my family smashed it
This makes me so happy, and I’m so proud of you!! 🥹🙏🏽
That exact the way I make my rice any beans without pepper congrat because like you said all the video the I found the are not like this ,I like this way
@@mariscookingpr Thank you, practice makes perfect.
They smashed it😢! All over the floor?
Hi. I'm from Connecticut but live in Arizona. A Puerto Rican woman used to babysit me until I was around 7 years old. She had 3 daughters that I would play with. I made multiple attempts to locate one of them since I've been in Arizona with no luck. She made the most amazing chicken and rice. No one has been able to share a recipe even remotely close. She actually sat me on her counter and I didn't move. I watched her every step. I honestly think you duplicated what she did. I'm excited about trying your recipe. She even made me the same oatmeal that you made. I'm so excited to try your recipes. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for sharing this with me! Wishing you the best of luck as you recreate these dishes that you remember so fondly! Let me know if you ever have any questions. 🥰
Love the African diaspora❤❤❤❤. You can definitely see heavy West African influence in all Caribbean cooking.
YES!
Where is the West African influence in this recipe
@@shasta7899 African rice dishes are cooked the same way.
@@shasta7899 c’mon . Im Dominican and I know jallof rice from Nigeria is this exact same thing! Even gandules come from West Africa, was that a serious question or are you playing? Even pasteles come from west Africa, they are called Moin Moin there
@@shasta7899Ur Racism is peeping out, just so u know✅ what, ur feelings hurt cause West Africa mentioned⁉️🤢
Your Puerto Rican cooking recipe videos are by far the best I've seen. They're short, quick, and get right to the point!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much my kids are half African American and Puerto Rican and Its always hard for me to make this dish like their abuela. Thank you for really explaining the steps. Now they can have both worlds for Thanksgiving!!!!
This makes me sooo happy! 🥺 Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!! ♥️
Thank you. I'm African American and have been trying to get it right. I will use your way. Thanks
You’re very welcome! 🙏🏽❤️
Im Honduran and I been trying to get it right too!
😊 if your rice comes out alittle hard cover it with wax paper or foil put the lid back on and keep on low it will help keep moisture in
Be careful, sis, cooking this style of rice correctly, and with your own twist like the OP, you’ll snag yourself a Puerto Rican, or Dominican, real quick! 😂❤ Or keep him!
@@GeloNegron 🤣
My mother in law is Puerto Rican and has taught me how to make arroz con gandules and I wanted to see how others make it. I got to say yours is basically the same and it looks amazing! Thank you for such an easy to follow video!
Awe thank you so much! 🥰
I’m Mexican and this is my go to video everytime I make it for my family. It comes out just like PR madrina makes it & the fam is obsessed. Thanks for a easy walk through 🫶🏼
That makes me so happy! I’m glad that you and your family love it!

FINALLY I find someone who puts meat and uses the SAME pigeon peas- El Jabarito dry pigeon peas! I followed her recipe to a T, it came out perfect! Thank you Mari 😊 💓
That makes me so happy!! 🥺 You’re very welcome, Katherine!
@@tracyannbielhy9794 Cooking ham (comes pre-cooked), bacon, or salchichón. 😊 Even pieces of pork will work well.
Good day; bought a caldero this morning, and made the arroz con gandules this afternoon, it came out amazing; will be making some on Thanksgiving Day; thank you so much, and a shout out to you for the way you present the content, which made it possible for me to cook this dish; take care !
Awesome, and thank you!
I made this recipe this evening and my entire family loved it! Thank you for sharing! I used 3 cups rice and 3 cups water. Came out perfectly. ❤
Gm beautiful
@@ThomasRiosJr good morning 🥰🥰🥰
Hi como esta
This is the best video. Straight to the point and not too long.
I love how Chicken Buillon was not included. Many of the other Arroz Con Gandules videos are way to salty. The Sazon, the Pork sazon adds enough salt, no chicken buillon needed.
Thank you so much for the feedback and support! ❤️
I love how you go step y step slowly makes it easy to follow and mimic
My mom makes this sometimes and it always is soooo good. One of my favorite dishes
I made this and followed as directed, it came out great. I've tried many times to no avail. Thank you.
So glad I found this! I've been craving this.
Been trying to find Puerto Rican dishes after my grandmother passed, as mixed Mexican it's hard to find dishes like these and it tastes just like her cooking. God bless ❤
currently living in Japan and was really missing arroz con gandules.. thank you for this video! my little family will be so happy for dinner tonight
Wow! And you’re very welcome! May your family enjoy ☺️
I just put all that in my own it looks so good
So my girlfriend taught me to make this years ago, but not with fried meat. I used ham and I have to tell you it took this dish to the upper tier level! Thank you it’s so delish. I added diced fresh garlic after I fried the diced ham. Bomb. Thank you 😊
I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🏽
And another one! Yum yum yum! ❤
I have 2 words: YUM MEE! this is a great recipe cant wait to try. TY!
Gracias it came out really good for my first time .
The tastiest part of the rice and peas found at the bottom of the pot!!! Man do I miss living in Connecticut!!! So many varieties of Puerto rican dishes I can’t find anywhere here in the south! Puerto rican cuisine reminds me how we prepare soul food with soul and a whole lot of love looks delicious
🥺♥️ I agree, Lynne! Thank you for watching!
OMG YESSSS! Mouthwatering
Making this one. Looks so good
Thank you for the video. I love this rice, and now that I have a recipe, I am going to try to make it!!
Definitely gonna try this recipe. One thing my aunt taught me was to fork the rice around so that it wouldn’t get smushed.
Mouthwatering!
Mexican here! Was craving some Puerto Rican rice and I just didn't know how to start so I seen your video and followed your instructions and BAM! I'm done making it! food is ready and DELICIOUS!😋 THANK YOU!
Awe, I love this! 🥹 So glad you enjoy it! It’s funny because I have some leftover Puerto Rican rice, and I’m going to pair it with some homemade carne asada tacos. A little Mexi-Rican dinner 😂
This Italian is getting ready to open a bottle of Malbec wine and have my arroz con gandules y carne guisada a la Mari! Fabuloso! Muchas gracias!
That sounds delicious!! Enjoy!! 🥂

Hi
I love it Puerto Rico Spanish Foods 🥰
Is good with chuletas frita yummy👌
I have watched so many videos on how to make arroz con gandules. Your video is the best one. Thank you for sharing your recipe. It looks amazing.
Thank you so much for such a kind comment! 🥺❤️
This is AMAZING - I'm Puerto Rican but am only now learning how to cook, and I've had a lot of arroz con gandules and this is one of the better ones. Rich, filling, so much flavor, no arroz amogollao, just beautiful. 😁🇵🇷
So happy to hear it! 🥰
I must admit I follow another youtubers ingredient measurements and there are a couple other ingredients. However, when I followed his cook times/method my rice ALWAYS had too many hard/raw grains. I have followed your cooking methods three times and the rice has come out PERFECT!!! Thank you! I felt so embarrassed being Puerto Rican and not being able to cook my favorite puerto rican dish.
Awwww that’s so so great to hear!! Never be embarrassed about not being able to cook certain Puerto Rican foods! This is exactly why I created my channel. I was born and raised in the States and learned on my own, and I wish to share with other Puerto Ricans like me. You got this! 🙏🏽
❤❤❤❤❤ awesome I will try that
You can just tell that this is fire 🔥 🔥 🔥!!
Thank you! 🥺❤️
I'm African American born in NC raised in Philly and now back south , Thanks for the recipe ,very informative and DELICIOUS this is my 2nd time cooking this for my "country boy " husband who loves traditional food ,GOD BLESS YOU and keep up the good job❤❤
Awwww yay!! God bless you too and thank you!
I do this recipe once a week now that I know how to do it. Being non Hispanic American I have always called it rice and beans haha when I was little my Puerto Rican neighbor who I referred to as grandma (I was 2 and loved her at first sight, was never told any different lol) well she never corrected us on the rice and beans. So I’m very happy to be calling it for what it is now, and to know for myself how to make it! Thank you so much for all the information as well as this recipe. ❤ we are having this tonight with chicken legs 😁🎉
Awww thank you so much for sharing! I recently learned that gandules/lentils can still be classified as a bean, but I refuse! 😂 So, you weren’t too far off in calling it rice & beans! I hope you enjoyed your dinner! ❤️
I made this tonight, it was great
Making this now and it smells so good. Thank u
I’m sure it’s going to come out great, Janiqua! 🥰
Omg! I made this rice tonight and it’s the best rice I’ve ever had! My husband loved it too! This is fantastic!
Glad you guys liked it!!
Me salvastes la vida en Thanksgiving! Gracias!✨🔥
I do my gandules like my abuela used to cook it.comes out sooo delicious.i like this video is cool
Perfect thanks for your video
Like your channel..because you give measurements with the instructions...Thank you🎀🌹🙋
Finally, measurements! Every time I've ever asked someone they've always laughed or just cupped their hands.... I've had to teach myself through trial and error, and even figured out a way in my pressure pot! BUT!!!!! It's either someone the rice is a little under done or it's too mushy, but when I reheat it the next day it's perfect! I'm going to try this RIGHT NOW! I can't believe I haven't seen this sooner!
I hope you enjoy! 🙏🏽❤️
I have been doing it wrong my whole life, I made this yesterday and everyone loved it, now I’m sharing it with friends, thank you so much!!!!
Awe yay!!
So great recipe❤
Thank you for this! Im doing this for Christmas for my American friends and even though I was born and raised in PR, I don’t think I can make arroz con gandules better than my mom! But this is very helpful 😂
🤤🤤🤤🤤 I know this smell it makes me want to cry 😁 god bless you 🙏🙏🙏
I cant wait to make this for New Years Eve! This with Pernil!!!
❤❤ enjoy you are very beautiful
Omg I just made this using your recipe I wish I could share a picture of the outcome! It was great thank you!!
You’re very welcome! Proud of you!
Thank you so much Mari for this tutorial. I always wanted to learn how to make this rice and every time i've tried in the past it was a disaster. I even made additional sides as a backup just in case but I was able to nail it with your guidance. Thank you so much. This was a fool proof recipe and no insurance policy needed!
I love this!! 🥺 I’m so glad that the recipe worked amazingly for you!
Que rico se ve ese arrosito 🥰🥰
Gracias! ❤️
Awesome, I've been working on making this rice. My granddaughters mom is Puerto Rican and her other granddad has always brought the rice when we get together. Now I'm making it!
Yes!! I love this! I’m sure it will turn out amazing. ☺️ Let me know if you have any questions!
I'm a Cook & caterer. I've made Arroz con Gandules many times b4. I tried your recipe 😋 It was Amazing. Thank you for video
Awww yay! Thank you! 🥹
Hey Mari! My boyfriend and I had recently purchased a rice cooker for our new apartment. And we came across this PR Arroz Con Gandules video while looking for some rice and peas recipes on the YT. We went the Ballpark Hotdog route but did everything else exactly to your video, even with the el jibarito beans! It came out amazing and we even paired it with your steak and onions recipe. Thank you for posting. We are looking forward to more of your delicious dishes.
That’s so good to hear!! So glad you both enjoyed the recipe! 🥳❤️
So glad I found this channel, my grandma used to cook these foods so good I miss her so much. Thank you for doing these videos. New sub here.
I really enjoy cooking this recipe, it was a hit with my family, I like how you make it very easy and simple and go step by step 😊
This makes me so happy! I’m so glad you and your family enjoyed it! 🥰
Looks amazing!
Making this tomorrow 5/5/23 I’ll let you know how it goes much love from NYC 🎊
This is my favorite rice recipe ❤
Yay! 🥰
Hi again, just came back to this for my Christmas rice! Happy holidays, Mari. Thank you!!
Same to you!! Have a wonderful day!
Best recipe! ❤ easy to follow along
Glad you think so! Thank you!
I'm about to cook it now 😋
wow so good
Thank you!
This is different in small details from the way my mom and grandmother made it (brown rice, sometimes sweet peas instead of gandules, and often my mom would add baked or pressure-cooked chicken together and make arroz con pollo y gandules).
I do it mostly in cast iron, and my wife and I learned different sofrito styles from our mothers.
Food culture is powerful, because food is also love.
I love this so much! And I agree!
Trying this tonight!
Hello, I just want you to know I have tried many different recipes for this rice, Yours is by far the best, and most authentic tasting. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️
Oh, that makes me so overjoyed! Thank you!!
Interesting to see your approach. My mother always used chorizo for the meat and would brown the rice in a skillet with olive oil and minced garlic before adding to the mixture. She did not use white rice, I forget the type she used; but it was always delicious and sat on the stove so whenever we came in late at night we could heat up some rice with gandules.
I bet her rice was incredible!! Those older generations had a special touch. I always say that my grandmother made the best arroz con gandules ever! 🥺
Yummy!!!
Mmm está delicioso y el pernil que hice Waow unos amigos de Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 me dieron a probar pero yo me quede con más ganas así que lo hice yo gracias muchas
Awww que bueno! Me alegro que te haya gustado! 🥰
Thanks for an awesome recipe ❤
You’re very welcome!
This looks good!
Thank you! ❤️
I married an Italian n now despues de vieja (no tan vieja☺️) I'm learning how to cook Puertorican. Thku so much❣️
I love that! Happy cooking! 🥰
I tried this rice and the flavor was on point! I tasted the broth and it tasted awesome. I undercooked my rice, so I had doctor it a little…I never cook rice on the stovetop because my rice never turns out right but this rice gave me inspiration. My rice was gummy but still good lol.
I omitted the pork, pork sazon and olives. I doubled the regular sazon.
Love this!! Once you get it down, you’ll be able to make rice with your eyes closed lol 😂 Great job!
I followed your steps and after it was done and i tried a spoonful i started dancing salsa in the kitchen and i don't even know how to dance! Thank you!
Lol! I’m so glad!
Made it a second time with my preference changes with this video. Becoming a pro 😄 thank you. Everyone loved the first batch 🎉
Yay! 🥰
I made it last night, it was amazing!!! Tyy
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Shirleh!! 🥰
You don't know how much I miss my moms arozz con gandules 😢 i made it for the first time with your video came out great i started crying honestly ❤❤
This comment made my day! 🥺❤️
I love it😅😊❤
I love puerto rican rice I can eat the whole pot. ❤❤
I just watched one video and I noticed she didn't clean the rice first. That caused me to keep searching. I think I'm gonna try your version. I love the fact that you cleaned the rice and I like the ingredients. Thank you.
I’m glad you’re going to give it a try! ❤️ Enjoy!
I made this and it was deliciois

You got this, Debra!! Thank you for having my recipe be your first! 🥺 I’m sure it will turn out amazing ♥️
Hey Mari, I’m William in Orlando FL, Thanks for your video, I followed it very closely, and Everything turned out Awesome!! What I like the best is if you take your Fork, and just taste the Rice, without olive or Ham, the flavor is PERFECT, thanks again looking forward to more recipes!!
Wonderful! 🙏🏽
I LOVE your recipe. Also I added a few more packets of sazon just because I like a lot of salt in my food haha I hope it doesn’t ruin it! Love your channel ❤
No judgment! I love me some salt too! 😆 Thank you for being here!
Looks like grandma's... great job !!!
Thank you so much, Natasha!!
I just made this recipe on the spur of the moment. I didn't have ham so I used bacon. I also didn't have the 2nd packet of sazon, but we have to watch our salt anyway. It came out pretty great! Thank you Mari.
That’s great, Patricia! 🙏🏽❤️
I've seen so many videos related to making arroz con gandules. So far, the process you use is the closest to mine. The ingredients vary a bit, but that's what makes for individuality. The important thing is that this dish is purely Puertorriqueño. Good job. 🎉
Thank you so much!!
