I once was saved by a post-it note that said drive on right! I went touring Europe on my motorcycle and was advised to put said post-it on the inside of my screen and did so for a quite life never imagining that it would save my life. Late one balmy afternoon I was i stopped in a rural town with an automated petrol station, there wasn’t one other vehicle at the garage, nor in the road or traveling past. I jumped on my bike and pulled out of the garage, and without any other vehicles to take my bearing from, established myself on the left hand side of the road. I glanced at my screen and seen the reminder note “drive on Right!” and with a stab of utter terror hauled my bike to the correct side of the road just as a van barrelled around a bend towards the exact spot I’d been in a few seconds ago. But for that note, I would have been seriously injured or killed.

Kat safefill bottles are now banned in Europe. We had one with us last year and couldn’t get it filled anywhere (and we tried lots of places). We now have a gasit system fitted so no more issues.

Campingas is usually available in France and the EU. We carry 1 Calor and 1 Campingas when abroad, with the Calor as a reserve.

Hi kat. Really good and well explained video. We have been over twice last year Holland in the spring and into Germany and back to Belgium. Then autumn in France. We used a post office card and loaded it up and used it to pay. Driving is so easy the roads good. We got pulled over in Belgium to get a weight check that was ok. Rob and Jane

Great tips. Especially public holidays 31st October Reformation day in Germany, that’s is just one. Walking through a lovely town wondering why all the shops are shut. The castle was open, but not much else. We live and learn😊

Hi Kat you have to carry Proof of vehicle insurance and original
V5C certificate (the 'log book') as proof that to show your not importing the vehicle more so if you get stopped by the German Zoll, V5C photocopies are not acceptable you will get a fine, plus they will not expect it on a phone they will want originals.

Hi Kat, I love your site and helped me last year on my first trip into Europe in my Motorhome.
One important item I think you have missed is European breakdown cover. First make sure you have it, and secondly check the small print, as some companies put a size limit in their policy.
    .
    your motorhome so some companies

    Very handy advice.
You do need to carry all your documents if driving in mainland Europe, including insurance.
One main thing missed from nearly every European Driving Advice is the need for a spare pair of glasses if you need them for driving.

With regards to the tolls the French are trialing booth free tolls the same as the Dartford crossing, it would be easy to be caught out unless you have a tag.

Just to let you know, you definitely need a physical copy of your insurance in France as the Police/Gendarmerie will ask you for it.I'm here now and my colleague was pulled over last week and they insisted on a physical copy .Hope that helps.

Hey Kat, I have heard that you need an external filler cap, especially in France, for filling Gaslow bottles. Is this the case and does it need mentioning. So technically the locker mounted filler does not meet the rules....

I’ve found the most likely time you may find yourself on the wrong side of the road is not on a busy road because there are visual clues all around you in the way other cars are driving. The challenge comes when the road is completely empty and you automatically revert left lane driving.
    Thanks for the video.
