- Let's face it, we've all made some makeup missteps, and when you're in the spotlight you're makeup is being photographed the most, and that's why there's certain things you should & should not do when it comes to "public appearance" makeup. We've witnessed Meghan Markle aka The Meg ignore such advice time and time again with fashion & etiquette, so it's no surprise her makeup has also had many fails. Today's video is all about her makeup routine & what does (& doesn't!) work for her face!
The Meg has eye structure that presents a few challenges, she has some hooding, deep set and very small, dark eyes. So if you have any one of those features to your face or eye shape, or a combination of them, then this video will offer some great tips for opening up, brightening up and bringing forward your eye's apperance.
Plus, why your makeup actually matters. You do need to match your makeup to the vibe you're going for, the event you're attending, etc So grab your cofffee & let's see what she did right....& of course, where the Meg failed.

Remember, Diana worn lots of heavy (for her) in the interview with Bashir. Megs was always trying to be an echo of Diana.
Yes, it was on purpose to make herself look pitiful. That and the gloomy lighting. She could be quite the manipulator. Although on the whole a good person.
She had BPD, she may have known what she was doing, but she most likely did the type of makeup she did because it expressed how she was feeling at the moment ❤
Also at the time heavier makeup was in style.
Diana had the large eyes to pull off the eyeliner, she likely did it heavy for the interview to highlight and bring expressions based on what her eyes were able to communicate. She previously wore mainly blue eyeliner but the size of the line was slimmer, eventually she broke away from the blue and went into having black eyeliner that framed her big eyes, while the blue likely got a little lost in her previous look.
Her styling is fascinating to look back on a historical perspective, she originally started off with a lot of frilly couture and pillowy, her hair didn’t really style much, and her makeup was mainly her eyes with a minimal touch of anything else. Very idealistically youthful, which greatly contrasted her later years. Sleeking her wardrobe that became chic, her hair was styled yet gave a carefree vibe, and she did a little more in other areas of her makeup such as bringing in a little color to her lips.
The whole timeline is watching her transform her ideals from naive, to lost, to desperate, to finally learning to let go and make the decisions to actually improve herself. She’s a classic example of the art of expression through one’s attire.
While Diana was trying to discover her place as a Princess, Markle’s issue is that she thinks she knows it all but clearly she can’t even acknowledge the basics about herself.

I was so shocked at the amount of eye makeup she wore at Queen Elizabeth's funeral - WOW. Such a theatrical dark smoky eye, not at all appropriate for a funeral let alone a funeral for such a beloved FAMILY MEMBER. But that's her, right? The chronic rebel.

Yeah the evening makeup for a funeral was weird. The funny thing about it too, was that with the cape and hat, it almost made her look like she had a mask around her eyes. I think it added to the Zorro look.

The most memorable "mistake" was her appearance with the Queen when they travelled to Cheshire on the Royal Train. This was the disastrous appearance where the wind blew Markle's hair and exposed her extensions and the bronzer line on her face. Also very noticeable was the dollops of glue on her false eyelashes. What a mess!
Yes, that awful dress she wore with the Kitchen sink around her shoulders. What really pissed me off is that she shoved herself first into the car, the Queen stepped back and waved her in. Such disrespect!!! Once a scumbag, always a Scumbag

I could not stand her makeup when she was in Germany last year wearing those giant pants. It was so incredibly distracting I don’t think I could’ve had a conversation with her in person😂 She was so orange and her eyebrows were so thickly drawn on…it was giving clown vibes.

Beebs...Of her many make up fails, what catches my eye👁️👁️, it her wig mistakes. Her middle part on her wigs, weaves is, the white wide part contrast to her deeply bronze face. Kills me every time. Oh and her "freckles on, freckles off".

there's always something about her left eye... I just can't put my finger on it.
Maybe she has Estropia, a type of Strabismus (eye misalignment) where one or both eyes look inward..Apparently it is more common in children, but can develop in adults at any point.

Great video! I never really noticed her eyes because I distracted by the bold cheek stripes. Her one pic reminded me of 80's makeup, dark eyes, bold lip & heavy blush. All she needed was the big hair!! Haha
If you Google a pic of Wallis Simpson, you'll see MM in the Oprah interview, right down to the bird poop dress. Her eyes & hair are as close as you could get to the one photo. She hasn't worn her hair like that way in public since then. It's super creepy how she not only copies Diana but others as well, trying to convey something.
Meghan should be paying you for this free make-up advice.
Beebs, this was great! All the examples you showed were 100 percent spot on. The one I didn't see among these was from the Netflix curtsy mocking scene. For that episode, her eyes were made up to be two perfect circles surrounded by heavy black trim. It was awful to see. Extremely unnatural and hard to look at because of it.
my personal take regarding that heavy eye makeup from both the Netflix mock curtsy and the Oprah show is that she was trying to copy the late Princess Diana's look for her interview with the infamous Martin Bashir. Some person (probably a body language expert though I forgot who) said Diana put on heavy eye makeup to make her eyes look bigger and rounder to make herself look innocent and to appeal to the public, and Meghan probably heard and remembered what that person said, so she tried to copy that look, not realizing the anatomy of her eyes were different from Diana's.
@@wm2628 Yes! It also appeared to me that she was going for the 'Diana with Bashir' makeup (and in the Winfrey interview, she copied the Wallis Simpson hairdo and somewhat replicating her dress. SO weird!). I thought Diana's eye makeup for that event truly did her no favors, at all. And the way she held her face downward and was looking up at Bashir made her natural sanpaku eyes almost jump out. I hadn't noticed she had that feature before, but I could never again miss it when looking at her photos. mm also adopted mannerisms I remembered clearly from the Bashir interview, that were unique to Diana, and she used them a number of times starting with the Tom Bradby, South Africa interview. I thought it was funny how she thought we all were stupid enough to think; "Oh MY! She's doing that just like Diana used to do!! How could she have known that?? Diana was before her time!!!🤣 WHAT a striking coincidence that is!!!".😒🙄

@@wm2628 I think one possibility is that she might be unaware of the negative light within which so many people view Wallis. There have been other times she's copied Wallis's outfits, as well. She often is just not the best informed. I know it seems so unlikely,, but it may be.

Yes. Because sometimes Princess Catherine wears heavy eyeliner, I think makes her look older and gives her undereye circles. Sometimes it makes her look haggard.
Unpopular opinion: Kate's wedding makeup was hideous, way too heavy for a royal bride, Meghan's wedding makeup was better, but no one did it better than Eugenie, her makeup was perfection.

@@maram6211 Autumn Phillips got married in 2008 and her makeup looked beautiful and natural, so it was a choice. Kate still does it quite heavy sometimes, so I think she likes it, but I prefer natural looking makeup. But's the only thing I dislike about her wedding look, the rest was great, as for Meghan it's the opposite, everything was a mess, her makeup wasn't perfect, but (bias aside) still better than Kate's in my opinion. Eugenie had much better makeup than both, she looked natural, youthful and everything suited her just perfectly.

I've never really been happy with my make up but Megan was on TV and she would have had probably more than one makeup artist do her make up. I think her make up is an example of her always knowing better.
I totally agree with you. It is a similar situation with her clothing choices. The wardrobe staff on Suits dressed her very well. Even though they had to chose looks that reflected the Rachel Zane character, the basic rules they used to make her look neat, balanced and smartly turned out could have been used in real life. But..... Markle always knows best!!

I loved this session. The pointers about etiquette were spot on. The red carpet and television and film have very different demands.
She needs to learn to accept her true skin tone, love the features she was given and act her age & accordingly to her position in life. She supposedly has a daughter watching her and that alone should snap her into shape. She just doesn’t present herself as a refined duchess would. Great video❣️
I watched another video where the content provider demonstrated with images that Ms Markle doesn't have the features she was given. She has had more work done than is realised, most notably her teeth. As a young teen she had a large centre gap between her top front incisors. Late teens no more gap. She changed her nose too. And more. I guess she stopped getting work done once she was satisfied, but there are some features that aren't easily upgraded.
You only have to look at her early photos to see the amount of work she’s had done, the teeth , the nose, the hair, The truth is she wouldn’t be where she is now with her original face .
Excellent point. Her daughter WILL be watching her. I pray to God that she managed to get out of her kids’ lives. I only think that in extreme situations. If she’s present, the Queen’s namesake will be a little replica psycho like her mother. I fear for this next generation.

I hate fake eyelashes, they always look overdone. A natural-looking, light makeup is best. If I get a compliment on my makeup, I know I overdid it. I always got compliments like “you’re so pretty without even any makeup”, that’s when I knew I got it just right. My dates always said they hated makeup!
With blush, I was taught to smile, then apply the blush to the apples of my cheeks -- lightly. Works every time.
I really hate wearing makeup, and always have.
I hate it, too, especially eye makeup. Even hypoallergenic brands get in my eyes and make them irritated, red and teary, which then makes the makeup run. During my corporate career, a polished hair and makeup look was expected at the office, now that I’m retired all I wear is sunblock. I’d rather keep my skin beautiful than have to cover it up with thick makeup to look decent. I’ve worn sunblock every day of my adult life (it wasn’t readily available until around the late 1970s, we had to use that opaque white titanium dioxide before that, it was awful) and I get lots of compliments on my young-looking skin, I’m 63. For special occasions, some blush, lipstick/liptint and concealer are plenty. 🙂
In other words, the focus should be on the event, and the people you are meeting with. Meghan seems to *want* to call attention to herself though, I think that's why she does that. I bet she even does her makeup herself, so she doesn't have to hear anyone else's ideas on what's appropriate .
Girl you are spot on! As a fellow MUA I agree with all you pointed out. I have somewhat of a hooded lid but create a crease. Her bronzer always is hideous. Now that she’s Caucasian again she’s easing up on dark makeup. Honestly her make up artist must hate her. I would never screw all those basics up. Dark lip, barely there eyes. I thought the sparkly highlighter was out. Think Jaclyn Hill and Becca lol. Love you and your makeup is always perfection❤❤❤

It’s like she did the heavy contour bronzer and did a thick highlight over the top. That’s the only explanation I have for the gap/lack of blending
In the Oprah interview I thought she was trying to look like she was sad or crying but my only takeaway was that she had small eyes. Her makeup was just too dark as you have now explained.
Gosh...i didnt realise how plain MM is without make-up! But I'm not suprised her make-up came off on the old man's jacket, she must have been going through a bronzer a day in her 'dark era', I notice that she's eased off on it and 'lightened up' these days 😂😂😂
Most people are rather plain looking without some make-up. I don't think MM is that plain. I think she's gorgeous, but she does noeed some lessons in how to apply make-up that's most flattering for her.

My takeaway from this was news to me: Makeup for the connection you're trying to make in the occasion. Thank you! Oprah interview marked an Act change for her. She now assumed the role of rebel/RF outcast. Therefore a costume change was necessary. Wallis's dress and hair. Diana's heavy (MB Interview) eyeliner. Her makeup is stuck in the '80's since she copies Diana. (Diana often lined inside her bottom lid.) Waiting for MM to "invent" wearing blue eyeliner.
Don't give her ideas.
Meghan's makeup is very dated.
Oh my,the shiny white nosetip on the last pic is certainly an interesting look . One thing I must say is that as you older you really have to change the way you place your makeup on your face .

Now I know what not to do to fix it as best as I can without a blepharectomy, which I would love to have, along with a brow lift, but need to win the lottery to afford! I'm in my 70's and, well, gravity is not my friend. I've always had small eyelids and they are now hooded, and my eyes droop a little. I said a regretful goodbye to eyeliner and mascara below the eye because it accentuated the droop and was very ageing. But one day I tried eyeliner on the lower waterline, without mascara - instant lift! You're the first person who has talked about this technique for lifting and bringing out hooded, recessed or drooping eyes. It gives a much better balance with the upper lid as well.
She needs to remember that there is a huge difference between day and night make-up. Also, bronzer is not her friend. I don't know if she thinks she needs to prove that she's of mixed race, or someone complimented her once and now she always wears it?
The trouble about plastic surgery is it takes more and more makeup to hide surgical scars. They can be tiny, but they are still there. People have no idea how much makeup it takes to appear natural when you have a lot of work done.
I have a scar around one side of my mouth from MOHS surgery (skin cancer) and it's a nightmare to try and cover especially as I am nearly 60 and just starting to get a few lines and wrinkles. If the makeup is thick enough to cover it it also gets into the crease of the scar and makes your face look more lined. Most times I just don't bother and just use a touch of powder to lighten the scar colour to make it look more matched to my skin tone and take the focal point away from my mouth and up to my eyes by applying my blush further back and slightly higher (I have high cheekbones which helps) and using colours on my eyes to really make them pop..they are green with yellow flecks so fairly unusual. Fortunately, even though they are a bit hooded, they are not deep set and still show plenty of lid both above and below the crease. I couldn't imagine trying to cover up lots of work.

Everything you said was spot on. I think part of the problem with Harry’s wife is she copies other people. In the Oprah interview she was dressed like Wallace Simpson with heavy eye eye make up like Diana in the Panorama interview.

Depending on what your prescription is for can affect how your eyes and makeup appear. If you are very myopic your glasses make your eyes appear bigger which can make your eye makeup appear clownish if you apply a lot or brighter shades. Conversely it is definitely less is more in that case.

I’ve seen many Meghan make-up fails ~ but the worst was the interview with Oprah Winfrey.
I really appreciate your saying it captured the rebellious nature of a teenager: that fits Meghan’s basic response to anything/anyone she doesn’t like or anything other than herself as the center of attention. At the time of the Oprah interview, I was repelled by what looked like heavy, Mafia-wife makeup and clothing! And her anger was clear to me regardless of the bids for sympathy.

I think everyone can look beautiful as long as they wear the right outfits, accessories, and makeup that flatters their body shape, facial features, etc. It baffles me why Markle who can afford designer clothes, accessories, and makeup, not to mention has access to stylists can go out looking like a mess. Are her staff terrible at their job or has she pissed them off to the point that they deliberately make her a mess 😅?
I can’t see MM listening to any advice about anything. When she was on Suits, she _had_ to go along with the stylists/MUAs, etc.
For the Oprah interview...she was channeling Di's post divorce smokey eye....she channels Di A LOT.

Hey Beebs, This was a great video!! I am having such a hard time finding a pencil liner to go right at my lower lashes that I can soften to smudge that won't move around. I used to wear mascara on my lower lashes but then had to deal with it coming off on my skin below my lash. I don't want or put much liner under my lower lid - just enough to make the lower lashes look a little bit fuller at the roots. I am a young looking nearly 75 year old and my whole effort is to enhance what I still have but to look very natural. Do you have any liner suggestions? I have used Thrive pencil liner, Loreal pencil liner and one other and they all move lower rather than staying right where I put it. I hardly put any on as it is but it still winds up moving a little south on me. I LOVE the adorable top you have on today and your makeup is perfect!!❤Kathleen
Hi Kathleen, how about trying some brown eyeshadow using a small liner brush and smudging it and a tubular mascara like Mirenesse secret weapon that doesn't smudge and is easy to take off? I find it good because it's not clumpy.
May I suggest having your eyelashes professionally tinted? Then all the hairs will show up roots to tip without mascara?
I got this, “MAC colour excess gel pencil eyeliner/eyeliner crayon gel”. That’s the whole name, from MAC cosmetics. It’s designed to be used in the water line, so very stay proof. You can use it on the eyelid too. It works, doesn’t smudge, stays put, and great colours. I loved it so much I got 4 colours.
I hate to say this but I have found the Kylie waterproof gel eyeliner to be the holy grail. I never would buy from this brand but hey. It does the job. It’s the pale pink pencil. It stays where you put it. Even if you sleep with it. It’s still on in the morning never having budged. I was so impressed I bought seven
Have you tried other types of eyeliner besides pencil? Personally I avoid pencil because they smudge in the worst areas yet never has a smooth flow in the lining. What’s worked for me is a subtle use of liquid eyeliner, but maybe gel might work for you.
Such a great video! Very informative. And you're extremely fair with her, always giving her credit when she looks good and giving valuable tips. I do wonder how much gray hair she has. At the 21:00 point it looks like there's quite a bit.
Ms makeup looked best early on, possibly pre-wedding. Afterwards, it got very heavy and harsh.
I appreciate how you gave examples of other women with similar features, as well as pointing out when she did do well. Not a make-up expert; I can barely remember to put sunscreen on! But I understand the concept of a great make-up look, and I feel like in a few of these examples you did a great job of saying "This is a good thing here that she did." A very even, balanced analysis.
It doesn't matter how Jezebel does her makeup, she still has crazy eyes. I can't imagine looking into those eyes in person.

She puts makeup like she did as a yacht girl. The makeup should vary by the function she is attending. You do not wear a lot of makeup to funerals. Makeup for day and night are different. Why does she not know this? Simple….total ignorance, and the I do not care attitude. You cannot buy class….it is earned.
I did a smokey, cool toned eye look that went a little TOO smokey 😂 and then I tried a shiny red lipstick and I felt like Cruella hahaha. I wiped off the red and went with a dusty rose satin finish lipstick and it was sooo much better. I am nervous to wear red but when I do I use liquid lipstick or a bullet lipstick that sets, so it won't slip and slide. I LOVE this makeup talk! If you feel like it, maybe you can talk about Catherine's makeup. She used to go a bit too heavy on the black eye liner but for many years now she's doing in beautiful, lighter and softer makeup looks. When she does amp it up for bigger events it's WOW! 😊❤ I want to see Catherine in a sparkly champagne eye look with a dark brown in the crease to smoke it out a bit and then BAM! RED MATTE LIPSTICK! ❤💄💋 I know matte isn't in anymore but a bold red lip especially during the holidays, o0oo maybe she does it for her Christmas concert she's hosted 2 years now. ❄️

I think as you age, you're not able to pull off black eyeliner. It tends to look harsh. It's better left to the teens & 20's, imo.
I always get the feeling that Catherine listens to her stylists because they know what they're doing. Either MM doesn't listen or doesn't have any.

I have just the opposite "problem" to Meghan: very large eyes. The advantage to these is that they can take a lot of eye makeup.
I am so jealous of the fun you can have with eyeshadows 😢 for me eyeshadow options are very limited

The truth is that as you get older less is more when it comes to makeup. Women in their seventies often use too much eyebrow help and far too much mascara...aging. Blush, a little highlighter (Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter is marvelous) light mascara and matte, creme shadow in a light tone and lip tint. You would be surprised how fresh and youthful you will look. I am 71. The lightest touch on eyebrows is the way to go, no matter how tempted you are...too much is terribly obvious.

Lastly, I’m loving the new videos on the hourglass figure. That’s me. Classic hourglass and it’s a pain to find proper clothing. Thank goodness I have learned to sew and tailor my clothes somewhat. But even with those skills, I struggle with shopping for my figure.
I always follow the same rule. Harry’s wife is always doing too much in her clothes and makeup.

Forthose that can’t find it in the budget to get the Charlotte Tilbury, NYX makes a setting mist that REALLY works. I’ve worn it working outdoors in Florida in the summer and, going to happy hour (well needed) after, my armpits were wet, my hair was limp but my face looked almost as good as when i out it on 9 hours earlier. Even my eye makeup!
Her makeup for big events is always yuck… wedding, coronation, etc.
I spent years wearing loads of kohl to make my small eyes look bigger , when I learned how to do make up properly, the difference is drastic , I still love eyeshadow but wear light an mid tones and very little eyeliner if any , wish I’d learned this years before, we tend to get stuck in a rut with our makeup, which can be so aging .
My favorite makeup look for MM was when photos were taken of her reading a book to son, Archie. It is minimal. No false lashes, no eye liner. Just mascara. No Groucho Marx eyebrows. No bronzer, bronzer, bronzer and MORE bronzer. Or if she's sporting a fair bit, the color is better suited to her NATURAL, ORGANIC, AUTHENTIC skin color. A matte lip with just a hint of color. Her annoying hair tendrils are controlled, but not to the extreme "ballerina bun" she's done for dress-up occasions. Best of all, there's natural light softly cascading over her and her adorable son. When she's in artificial light, I find that the oranges of her fake tanning paint and bronzers are too obvious and clash with her natural coloring.

I think Markle would look a lot better if she didn't put so much bronzer on. For someone who goes on and on about being black, it's as if she is trying to make herself look darker 😅. Plus, I think the fake eyelashes and huge amounts of eyeshadow just make her eyes look smaller than they actually are. This is one of things that applies to the saying “Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". And I also agree that matte lip products look a lot better on her.

Very informative, Beebs! Meghan demonstrates where less is more, she always overdoes her eye and cheek-shaping makeup. I like the Angelina comparison. When we look at Angelina, we're looking at her features---and not her makeup! I will say that Meghan needs makeup, like many of us. From her Netflix video exposures, she's not a natural beauty.
I never understood Harry's 'heart attack beautiful' statement lol. The makeup artist on Suits did an amazing job. Unfortunately almost everything since has been an unmitigated disaster.

I'm not a makeup wearer at all, when I was younger eyeliner was really it, wear I live its always hot and sticky so wearing it never lasts on your face anyway lol I totally agree with your opinion on Megan's makeup, when she was a working royal didn't she have a makeup artist? The heavy use of the black eyeliner doesn't give her a good look & yet she looks really nice & refreshed with less on! I wonder why she didn't see the difference, surely some makeup artist would have today her that it looks better.
Do you honestly believe that she would listen to anyone else good advice? It’s been repeatedly shown that she thinks that she knows, better than anyone, what looks best on herself and doesn’t take advice from others!
Thanks Beebs! Totally agree re the Oprah interview makeup - she looked hard and nasty which I'm sure wasn't her intent and about as far from 'vulnerable' as possible...wonder if she did it herself? For a trained actress she doesn't do either clothing or makeup very well...
Having worked on camera she may have picked up this habit of wearing a lot of makeup... because of the lights. A professional makeup artist knows how to do a natural look but there is actually a lot of makeup on the face. She has been trying to make herself look darker than her skin is.
I have a mixture of deep set and hooded eyes. I found that nude eyeliner on your lower lids and partially on your upper lids is a reliable look. Your dark eyeliner is only for the outer upper lid that ends right before the middle of the upper lid.
Megs meet and greet makeup look is a very cute look.
Could you do this analysis you do with Markle with other celebrities? Like a series. You are very knowledgeable and this is super useful for people with the same features/body proportions. I learn a lot from the examples you show, when it looks bad/good on her and why.

But loved how you explained how to hold your arms thank you. I found holding myself like you recommended you have much better posture. It has only taken 70yr to find this out.
