      I think the Phillies are lucky obstruction was not called. If you look at other plays pulling the same or similar fake, the fielder never touches the runner. The infielder did put his mitt on the runner. Was it enough to prevent him from getting back safely, no. But that is not what the rule says. Just contact.

    1:49 This play is actually a missed call, this play is Obstruction, the shortstop isnt allowed to touch trea turner without the ball because that could prevent the runner returning to the base

    • @rh6625
      @rh6625 Před 2 lety +10

      Notice how the shortstop pretends to make a tag but keeps his glove away from the runner? He only touched him after the runner was standing on the base.
      The rule for obstruction is, "when a fielder illegally hinders a baserunner running within the basepath". The shortstop clearly didn't hinder the runner from reaching 2nd base.

Also, in that same play, the white sleeve of the shortstop kind of looks like a baseball (if you're a runner and not paying close attention). Even in 2021, if you are playing against Molina, just stay on the base until there is a base hit or home run. The GOAT will get you nearly every time, even at 38 years old. Even recently from his knees.

    The play at 2:00. If the 2nd baseman touches the runner with an empty glove wouldn't that be interference?

    • @theapologist6717
      @theapologist6717 Před 3 lety +4

      Interference is a bit of a judgement call, Florman was definitely pushing it by continuing to apply the tag, and if you're a SS, don't do that, but because Turner was essentially already out, and especially because he didn't even try to get back to first, there was little reason to call interference.

    • @rachitm109
      @rachitm109 Před 2 lety

      I'm still lost. Why was Turner already out? He wasn't the one who hit the ball. How does it matter that the batter got caught out. Why is Turner out?

    7:30 - Every Minnesotan knows this play. It was the game 7 of the World Series fake. It was zero-zero in the eight. If Atlanta had scored they most likely would have won. Instead the game went scoreless to 10 innings when Gene Larkin finally drove a run in. I have his autograph somewhere!

    On the lonnie smith one he wasn't actually tricked, he lost the ball in the dome because if he was faked out he would have slid into second base. He was very unlucky and cost the braves that world series partially.
