When the announcer says “looks like they got it right”, I think that disqualifies it as awful umpiring 😂
The pic in the thumbnail is incredibly misleading as well. Seems like this channel is just trash.
A lot of these were actually really good calls.
Some of these were actually really good calls...
Fr
Or well within the reasonable margin of human error.
People don't understand that the umps aren't looking at cameras in slow motion like us
Took the words right out of my mouth
Yep. Bad take
"We'll have to get him some ice for his shirt." Lol
I laughed hard affff at that... It’s was perfect timing cuz he faked a little pain with the perfect amount of casual sarcasm.🤣
Some of these are the right calls, most of these are insanely close calls, didnt see anything that would qualify as awful ump'ing
ur on something
I agree some were really close calls.
@Daniel Rieth no hes not stupid
@@reecekelly1582 nah you're just a kid incapable of objectivity. Don't worry, it gets easier once you hit your mid 20s
@@reecekelly1582 yeah the top of his class unlike you
most of these are right calls
Fr 😂
The balk call doesn’t make sense; he hasn’t come to his set position yet
Thats what I was thinking. This video sucks...
Ikr
fr tho
When the announcers are watching the replay, in slow-mo and zoomed in on the play, and they say "That was really close" - then it's not an awful call by an ump trying to make split decisions from a possibly bad angle.
Completely agree. The announcers get full of themselves after the benefit of numerous replay angles
It’s tuff for umpires to see the play just give some respect they work hard
Yeppers
And I feel bad for those umps because what ever decision they make it’s going to piss of one of the teams
Can't agree more. Can't catch everything, and a lot of them are very close calls. Going to get a few of them wrong every now and then. Don't hear many people praising all the right calls 99% of armchair ump/referees would completely miss in real time that these officials make multiple times every single day.
Almost all of these umpires had the right call
😂😂 That’s a funny joke sir
You do not know baseball
he ran outta content 😂
@Grayson Smith Justin rn: 😭I am clinically blind stop hating
Are you smoking?!
0:08 - Probably was a little low but it wasn't egregiously bad, even the graphic makes it look pretty close. I'll call it bad.
0:31 - It does look like his foot comes off the bag for a second, but I think Wright's foot may have blocked the umpire from being able to see it since it only came off for a very brief moment. Don't think you can call this a bad call.
0:48 - Yeah, bad safe call, but the fielders didn't do themselves any favors by crowding the bag and making it harder to tell who was on the bag and who wasn't.
1:00 - Right at the beginning of the clip you see the pitcher start to move his glove as though he's going to come set and then stop. Textbook balk, 100% correct call.
1:35 - Batter or Runner Interference. It is interference by a batter or a runner when:(5) Any batter or runner who has just been put out, or any runner who has just scored, hinders or impedes any following play being made on a runner. Such runner shall be declared out for the interference of his teammate (see Rule 6.01(j))
Martinez walking where he was impeded the play being made on the runner attempting to score, which is textbook interference, and since Martinez was just put out, the runner is out. 100% correct call.
1:52 - Looks like in the umpire's judgement, the fielder had possession of the ball and only lost it after the runner made contact and shook his foot to knock it out. It's not really clear whether he ever had full possesion but I don't think you can call this a bad call.
1:57 - Yeah, looks like a missed strike, but it's a borderline pitch.
2:15 - No play is shown so you can't tell what they're arguing about, but since it's a pitcher, it's probably balls and strikes, and arguing balls and strikes is explicitly against the rules, so the umpire is right to tell him to get off the field and back to the dugout.
2:28 - That pitch was clearly off the plate and was called a ball. 100% correct call.
2:50 - This definitely looks like obstruction rather than interference, so the runner should have been awarded 2nd base. Bad call.
3:13 - The pitch hit the batter but the batter swung. HP ump should have gotten help on that one. Bad call.
3:25 - Bumgarner gets the ball and tags Wong before he gets to the base. 100% correct out call.
3:38 - The foot comes off the bag so the runner should be safe, but the umpire is in the correct position to make this call and that specific angle wouldn't show the umpire the foot coming off. Can't call this one a bad call, just an unfortunate angle. Looks like it was corrected on replay.
4:06 - Same play as the last one but with the opposite result. I can see Rizzo's extreme stretch making it look like he came off the bag there from the angle that the umpire has. Also can't call it a bad call.
4:14 - Yeah, he missed the tag. Bad call.
4:42 - It does look like this ball hit the ground after being foul tipped, but only when you see the extreme slow motion camera view. At full speed it looks like the catcher comes up with it, plus the umpire is BEHIND the catcher instead of in front. Can't call this a bad call.
4:52 - This is really borderline. It's umpire's judgment whether the ball comes out as a "voluntary release", in which case it's a catch, or if it's dropped accidentally, in which case it's not. I can see this call going either way.
5:16 - Looks like he got the tag on him. Bad call.
5:22 - This play is a mess and without seeing the full play and final ruling we can't tell whether the call was bad or not. What I THINK happened was that the home plate umpire ruled that it hit the batter after hitting the bat, since he's putting his hands up as if he's calling a foul ball.
5:44 - The runner seems to veer at least 3 feet away from his established path to avoid the tag from the fielder. Looks like a good call to me.
6:06 - Umpire missed the ball hitting the batter's back leg. Bad call.
6:25 - This was so close I couldn't tell until I slowed down the CZcams video to 0.25x speed that the ball beat the runner. Definitely could see this one going either way.
6:32 - The ball hits the plate and is fielded in fair territory. That's a fair ball. 100% correct call.
6:52 - Pitcher spins to throw to first and then doesn't actually throw. Textbook balk, 100% correct call.
7:19 - I thought the ball clipped part of his uniform sleeve, which DOES count as a hit batsman. If so, 100% correct call.
7:37 - The replay makes it look like he beat the throw. 100% correct call.
7:54 - The runner at 1st base interferes with the 1st baseman trying to make a play on the pop up. By rule, that runner is out for interference, the ball is dead, and the batter is awarded 1st base. 100% correct call.
All in all, there are 27 plays in this video. Of those, 10 of them were 100% correct, 9 were bang-bang plays or so close they could have gone either way, 6 were actually bad, and one of them we didn't have the full play so we never saw the final ruling, so we don't know whether it was bad or not.
Hardly a good case that the umpires are "awful"
The balk at 1:00 is him signaling to go through the signs again, you can see as soon as he does it the catcher starts to give signs. It wasn’t as obvious of a motion as it should have been and the way he holds his glove under his chin doesn’t help but it’s not a balk. He hadn’t made a motion to come set or start a windup.
Dang bro respect for spending that much time typing a whole Harry Potter chapter on a CZcams video about baseball 😂
At the one where the pitcher goes to throw to first then stops, it almost looks like he nods and agrees with the umpire that "Yeah, I did balk"
5:44, 100% agree, you can even hear the ump say "He's out of the baseline, out."
Is it just me, or were most of these not actually "awful umpiring"? Some of them may have been the wrong call, but almost all of them seemed like they were very close, could have been called either way, kind of plays.
Totally agree. Most probably weren't even overturned on replay if they were challenged.
Yeah same hear
Yeah I would say that 90% of this video was legit. There was the one strike at the very start and the 2 umps antagonizing the players that were the only things that fit this video.
Yes I agree
The A’s and Detroit call was the right one I’m confused as well
Some of these are not awful umpires.
Exactly! A bunch of these were the CORRECT calls.
@@johnanthony9923 agreed but some of these the umpires were bad
Some? Almost all of these are the correct, and the ones that weren't most were too tough without replay and the perfect angle.
Exactly a lot of them looked like the umps got the call right
No
I would like to point out that most of these are correct calls, and this is clickbait
“Gotta get some ice for that shirt” hahaha good call by the announcer
1:30 was the correct call...
Almost all of these were the right call.
You’re delusional
No there were not
Ikr
Are you ok??
No one accused him of being smart
i love the energy on this video, just a lot of really bad calls mixed in with good calls that the editor disagrees with for no discernable reason. absolute chad
5 commercial breaks and exit music 3 times the volume of the content. Brilliant work.
7:20 savage “might have to get some ice for that shirt”
Lol imagine putting this video up and then having to use slow-motion to even prove your point.
I'm not sure about this one some of these are actually legit, some of these are actually the right call especially on that first base running
People need to realize umpiring isn't as easy as it looks. You have to make hard decisions in 3 seconds. And 50% of fans won't like a close call
U right
They should be replaced with computers and high speed cameras
That's partly true but at the same time, they could've checked and looked at it more correctly, then maybe they won't have problems
Exactly especially for stikes and balls, it's crazy that we expect them to make such precise calls
@@ghillepig2 its not hard u have a zone that is a strike if its in it and a ball if its out of it. But umps dont care they make up the strike zone of their own all the time caise they think the fans cone to the games to watch them ump
@@eddiesonneborn8184 okay I'd love to see you behind the plate watching a 100mph pitch that is on the line and one team is screaming strike and one time screaming ball, obviously there are times where they make blatantly bad calls but they do have a very hard job
Umpires are getting paid for bad calls
Half of these, by the book, are the right call
Some of these are amazing calls. Chase Utley in particular.
A lot of these are good calls
These are good calls for the most part
Chip the ball, get rid of umpires, join the 21st century.
Might need some ice for that shirt.
Lol
actually a lot of these calls were pretty good
Might have to get some ice for that shirt
Half the entertainment in baseball is the umpires sucking at their job and everyone freaking out about it. Like crashes in NASCAR.
I dont understand how people judge umpires when they HAVE BETTER EYES THEN YOU
This vid should be a hour long for how many bad calls umpires do
This video would be about 20 seconds long if you remove all the correct calls.
Umpire: Gets call wrong by 0.0001 seconds
Baseball Sports: OMG such awful umpiring!!!!!1!!11!!!!1!!
3:28 was a good call
The title doesn’t fit most of the videos because some of the calls are actually understandable.
3:19 he is out because the fielder has the ball in his glove and tagged him. If the fielder didn’t have the ball it would have been interference. So it was a good call by the umps
No. Just... NO. He obstructs the runners path.
@@brye122681 but he had the ball so if he tags him he’s out and if he didn’t have the ball that would be interference. I play first base so I know this rule all to well. It’s just like the home plate the catcher will be called interference if he does not have the ball the the runner get there
@@sabretooth7750You think you know the rule all too well, but you don't know the difference between interference and obstruction.
@@brye122681 A fielder with the ball cannot be guilty of obstruction.
Its incredibly hard being an ump, they make mistakes...its part of the game. As a player, you have to learn to deal with it.
Did you even watch this video? Most of the video is good ump'ing.
The balk was spot on.
2:06- Ump going out of his way to be an ass for no reason.
True....the player was being an ass too. Be classy and go to your dugout and don't argue with the umpire. They ain't changing the call and if the ump is truly an ass, he will remember it on the next call involving the player. Nothing good ever comes from arguing with he ump.
That’s probably the umpire
@@Boogbama123 I agree but you got to understand the frustration of the pitcher
With the horrendous calls many umpires have been making in 2021, we should be up to Awful umpire calls 2000 plus by now.
Gave you a like just for the thumbnail. Good work.
My guy, there were so many good calls made in this video. Also, some of the calls made that were possibly wrong were really close, even in slow motion. Lmao, if there was a compilation for bad baseball compilations, you'd make up most of the video.
yeah most of these calls are actually reasonable but still thank goodness for replay. the too close to call ones should be challenged.
Almost every single one of these was either the actual right call or "the umpire is not all knowing." They are subject to missing things based on angles and obstruction of view. Only a couple of these are actually awful calls.
Some of these are good calls. 1:03. The balk call is a great catch. Some don’t realize that this is a balk.
I was playing for a baseball club, and they had this one ump who called pitches by your feet but above the base strikes. 😭😭
The thumbnail one was the right call. Dude just stomped on his glove
Some of these are so close you really blame the umpires
This is the reason why I think we need to rely on lasers to make strike and ball calls, the umpires are too corrupt and make too many mistakes to rely on making the right calls! Otherwise, most of the strike and ball calls almost always favor big market teams, such as the Yankees and Dodgers!
a lot of the runs to first base they were wrong calls but remember they dont have slow mo eyes
"AWFUL UMPIRES" starring Angel Hernandez, I assume
These are mostly good calls
one time I went to a game and the umpire made SUCH a bad call.
thx good job
Half the time. The umps are on the wrong side of the play but they’re too arrogant to admit they couldn’t see anything!
The umpire needs to check his phone because he missed some calls.
I had so many of these even in a Ripken except
I saw mostly good calls here. The balk was a little ridiculous.
5:30 is literally a great call. that’s a fair ball all day
Some of those calls should be properly reviewed, why did they not check it, that's surprising
Me: bunch of blind morans who couldnt see jack sqwat.
Also me: thank goodness nobody watches every move I make at my job.
I agree, I like the new rules. And I wouldn’t be against a robo ump, if it didn’t call every pitch.
About a Third were absolutely correct and out of the rest 90% were really slow-mo close.
I honestly feel bad for Adrian Beltre when he got walked. Honestly he said to feel bad because Felix is his friend and has to take the base.
Honestly the one where the guy comes off the bag should be safe, it’s obvious he would have stayed on if the third baseman wouldn’t have pushed his leg off using his glove
How does this video NOT have more dislikes than likes? More than half of these calls were in no way awful... Some of the calls are based on a possibly bad sight angle from the umpire and having to make a call based on something happening in fractions of a fraction of a second.
These videos piece together the miniscule percentage of calls that are "missed"by umpires (some of these weren't missed) and give the perception that umpires are inept and miss calls all the time. That's just not true. Everybody hates officials. Howevet, without them, it's just practice.
“Let’s get some ice for the shirt” 7:20
Part 95 by the end of the season! 😂
I’m also a Phillies fan and Utley was still out. The ball came out after the play.
So what really happened with the segura, utley one?! Lol I was younger then so I don’t remember it aha
Cardinals have gotten screwed out of more post season outs than most teams combined. Cost them 2 World Seties
true they do always get fucked on calls
7:19 have to get some ice for that shirt
A good amount of trash call
How about the Detroit game where the ump called a batter safe at 1st, he was out by a lot, which ruined a perfect game for the pitcher on the 27th batter.
Some were bad but most are good calls or really tough calls
Usually enjoy Baseball Sports videos but this one had too many short clips in it. I prefer less clips with more commentary from the announcers. Overall, this is a good channel for baseball themes.
Your umpires are all game spoilers, they have to much power. They spoil a beautiful game.
Got about 2 minutes in...realized that most of the calls were the right call....what even is this?
You can’t get mad at the umpires because it’s so fast and such a small diffrence
Some of these are the umps being smart
do mlb catchers and home plate umps wear cups ? they should !!!
they do
At 6:27 , that was a bang bang play. Real time at full speed that look like a tie, and ty goes to the runner. Replay can show different but that's not awful umpiring. That's a judgment call.
Maybe like, 10% of these are actual awful calls.
one time i got out at 1st after i ran through and turned to 2nd but i wasn’t making a move to go so she tagged me and i was about to scream at the umpire
Utley playing dirty once again
3:26 the runner gets tagged and is called out
he was definitely out on the second play
Most of these cuts were cut off to soon as with most of the vids put out by this channel
At some point does anyone think that an umpire will get punched in the face? Sometimes it looks like they are calling crap and sometimes they seem to be taunting the players
Umps: The pitcher can’t breath funny to trick the batter or runner with what he’s going to do. That’s a balk.
Also umps: Yeah, basemen can fake throw the ball to get the runner to step off the bag.
Very few of these would qualify as "awful umpiring"..... Lots of very close plays that could have gone either way.....
"Awful" umpiring depends ever so slightly on whether or not the video ends with your team in the plus column...
Most of these are great umpires
good game
Who called these umpires bad ? The MEDIA ?
Since YT is technically media, yes. This YT content creator is trash.
My little league empires are so bad at there job they called a out when the dude did not even have the ball at third. Also the call balls strikes like we realy have to swing ant ones at our faces
Sure like to have a bit more context on these calls.
yea almost all of these calls are just the plays themselves which are very hard to call, and then they get overturned asfter they have time to review them. (being an umpire is waaaay harder than it looks, most people sturggle with little league)
