I find is absolutely BAFFLING that a game from 12 YEARS AGO still has better referee interactions in stoppages than a game released on PS5 in fucking 2023. I feel like I’m going crazy lmao
Honestly I think they developed the foundation code with EA MMA, used that engine for EA UFC 1, and they've refined the mechanics since then, with no thought of reinventing the core mechanics
Or created fighter content ive got more options to make a character in dragons dogma
IN MY OPINION as a developer there was no real work put into this game that justifies a three year wait (YT Deleted this comment a minute ago so i added context):
95% of code changes was changing a few variables from x=5 to x=6 (example: smoother input, faster hits)
"New Graphics" - are just adjusting the shading slider in the game engine, that takes 2 seconds to do
the false advertisement that was released for the game with new animations could have been utilized, for example all the motionc capture used to make the new animtions for the trailer could have been pulled into the game- you take the motion capture points, add it to the game model, make a new animation, and add that animation to the list that gets triggered when you do a takedown or attack
seemless submission is a new gameplay feature that likley takes 2 months of work to do. just convert the grappling inputs to trigger submission animations instead of the mini game that triggers the animations incrementally
doctor stoppage is NOT that huge of an update. All that is going on is that the game is collecting data and once one of the three data stores reaches a certrain threshold (example: eye hit variable reaches 10,000) then trigger the doctor stoppage animation which branches to one of three end result animations - thats 3 months of work TOPS
many more examples and i can make a video showing code and gameplay examples of a simple demo game to show my thoughts (i could be wrong but doubt it)
the devs aren't necessarily to blame - it is the CEO who tells the BUSINESS OWNERS who forces thr DEVs to copy paste and make changes to the game based on numbers (they're making profit don't change anything). the higher ups probably know nothing of MMA, the devs might be super passionate but they're constrained by the business people
How much of this dev cycle could've been them insuring the existing mechanics cooperated well with Frostbite in your opinion?
@WebbanationX honestly- this one I did not think about. It probably took some time converting everything over. to give a fair estimate 4-6 months. still doesn't justify lack of content over 3 years

The fact that we can no longer purchase UFC 1, 2 or 3 off the digital stores is a sham. It's like they know most people would continue to play them instead of UFC 4 or 5. If EA wanted to, they could bring back the servers and update the rosters for previous games

Your video was 100% correct. You didn’t talk trash. You gave credit where credit was due. But you explained the motivations of each influencer and how it has damaged the quality of the UFC franchise all culminating in UFC 5 which took the longest to develop with the least amount of changes. The UFC community is fed up with being sold a UFC 4 update and having people that are affiliated with EA tell us how awesome it is.

I typically don't wish decline, but the only way this format changes is if the game has low sales and online player counts drop. When that happens, I guarantee within 1 quarter, EA allocate the budget to pay an actual team to implement high effort features.

I'm a fan of Martial but, it is quite noticeable how different his tone towards the game has been in the Ufc 5 content he's posted thus far! Towards the end of UFC 4's lifecycle and throughout he shared quite a lot of criticism for the game and it's shortcomings which I feel he hasn't properly adressed with ufc 5 as there are still glaring issues. There has definitely been improvements made to UFC 5 but from what i've seen it's not enough to be considered a true sequel warranting the 3 year development time. Especially if it still can't stand up to Undisputed 3 in terms of quality and in 2023 content creators and especially game changers with influence over the game SHOULD be mad at that. Solid video though good work!
The one point I will disgree with you though is that I don't blame him for almost exclusively playing UFC games as they are the games which garner the most attention on his channel! It's just smart financially

Mad to think that all the way to the deep dive trailer featuring Martial, I was genuinely excited for the game. However, ironically after watching some of Martial’s career mode gameplay, I’m completely uninterested in the game now (mainly down to the fact that EA have made no effort in regards to the career mode this year apart from some different cutscenes and the ability to simulate training). THQ and 2K do a much better job with their sports games and if another AAA boxing game is going be made in the future, I’d hope it’d be under 2K rather than EA.
Agreed, I think 2K would look to set an example with their first entry.. Here's hoping this is the final installment under the EA umbrella

I didn't know he was in this game changer thing. I didn't know it was a thing to be honest. I've watched Marital for about a year and like six months or so. I've never seen him mention that.
After playing UFC 5 ranked for about 4 hours using the trial, I can say that as a diehard MMA fan, this is the worst game in the franchise. The fact that these CZcamsrs sold us on the idea that the damage system and all of these other superficial changes actually made a difference makes me sick. It is a spammers haven. Somehow the skill gap has closed all the way. There is no reason to buy the game if you want to sim. It’s also extremely buggy. Please don’t buy it.

It’s honestly a shame like for games with a yearly release like fifa madden cod ect there is a case to be made that there’s not enough time to make massive changes/improvements (self inflicted) but for ufc 4 to 5 was what like 3 years to see no actual major improvements and it basically be the same game not even a roster update is just a joke

I was watching martialminds “ufc career” series as of recently and it amazes me how he completely ignores the bugs in the game when they are in his face and doesn’t acknowledge that the career mode is exactly the same as ufc 4. Man these videos hit me in the feels and I have been saying this stuff on gaming forums. At some point these studios are gonna get rekt financially when there are some successful lawsuits occur that puts a LOT of accountability on these predatory studios who take advantage of kid's developing brains with these gaming or "surprise mechanics." It will occur, even CSGO has 15 billion dollars in skins that are not being accounted by which would be bigger than almost every cryptocurrency. WIth that said, I remember Anthem game changers and they absolutely have to shill total posititivty and it's the cheapest form of effective advertising since they don't pay nearly anything worthwhile. These youtubers like Marshill literally make a living taking advantagge of their own viewers and that's for every game. Gameranx and others really tried to big up the Pay Day 3 game and it was complete crap when released. Same with MK 1. These youtubers are a complete joke.

I pre-ordered the deluxe edition. I was going to buy ufc 4, but I figured I'd wait for the next game to not get left behind. I've never played a ufc game, but I'm a pretty hardcore fan, I try to never miss a fight. I grew up on wwe and played those games, and loved them. I only go to CZcams to see what I'm getting, not for advice on purchasing the game. I'm probably in the 0.1% though 😅 I just hope the game is fun.

Martial and Romero are legit the reasons why I bought it. I downloaded UFC 4 for free with PS+, thought it was fun, wanted to get better, watched their videos, got better, had more fun, wanted UFC 5.

Do you guys think a company like 2k would be better to make these games? Because i only but them as a fan of MMA. Its the only ea games that i buy and only because if circumstance.
It's possible, if EA dropped the franchise it would be due to low sales, so 2K would go out of their way first release to build a good foundation. On the flip side there may be other publishers who would put themselves forward.
Basically as long as EA make the games, we're getting swindled. They never aim to create the best game, their aim is to drip feed improvements over the course of 20 years, and your complaints don't stop you from buying the game.
