I think every mezzo has those low notes, but of course she is a dramatic mezzosoprano, so the low notes from her sound like contralto's, because only dramatic voices has the power to produce low notes like that
Good point, but she's definitely from the lower mezzos, the range and the coloratura extension doesn't make her higher or lirical mezzo. About the notes, I said earlier every mezzo has low notes at least to G3, but not everyone's are so bigger and powerul like hers

@@Dr__Feelgood Teresa Berganza! I heard Horne in her entire MET career. Many rewarding performances but the extremes of her voice could be problematic.
@@dougt3652 Thanks. I just listened to Teresa's own rendition of the same aria and even though it was just as flawless, there was nothing in her low notes for me to write home about. But I think even if Marilyn did "force" anything, which I still have yet to hear (had only discovered her a couple weeks ago, though), it's unfortunate IMO that people in general tend to often falsely presume that "natural" as far as anything under the sun is concerned (e.g. no preservatives = dangerous!; non-GMO = not a + & technically hasn't existed in human foods for the past 10k years; no MSG = not a + & MSG is naturally occurring in many foods) will always be "superior" to anything that is synthetic or processed or, in the case of the performing arts, any special ability that is molded by years of practice & recalibration of technique in using the instrument that wouldn't have been able to perform that way if left naive or even trained with the barest minimum. I have never heard her sing as much as you have, however, but if this performance is representative of the best that she can do, then anything less is irrelevant to me because there is no one who is able to do anything with robotic precision until their batteries need to be recharged. 😝
@@Dr__Feelgood chacon a son gout. I find Horne’s use of chest voice to be vulgar and not at all ‘bel’ canto but more can belto.
