Combine that fact with her magnetic stage presence and it’s no wonder she emerged as one of the pre-eminent singers of our time! ❤

Ms. Horne has a presence and talents that few are granted. Fortunately, she shared them generously with the rest of us. I’m lucky to have seen/heard her live twice, and both performances were mesmerizing. Recordings of her only partially capture her magnificence.

I snuck backstage to catch a glimpse of her working during the dress rehearsal (I was doing "Porgy And Bess" at the time). It was a glorious time at the Met. All the greats were still there.

It is so weird, people seem to like her a lot, but personally I can`t stand the nasality in her voice...... It seems she always sang everything in her nose. Can`t really think of any other famous singer with such a nasal voice...
Take off your troll-o-phnoes and you'll hear her better.
@@Muttonchop_USA Paulius is right. I can’t understand how people can like this overrated singer. Not everything is a matter of technique or spectacular vocalizations. Well, let’s say first that she doesn’t own a good technique having this unbearable nasal and ugly vocal sound.
I have always found that nasality in her voice, but forgot about it to become a fan of her. Nowadays I realise that I overrated her, her emission is not beautiful neither in high nor in low notes.

Vous avez bien raison: j'ai vu cette mise-en-scène et elle était horrible, sans aucun charme. Quant à la Horne, elle avait dejà plus de 50 ans et prônait plus que jamais les exagérations de toute sorte.
