I do have a question; can you change time signatures mid-song? Can you go from, say, 4/4 to 3/4 and back within the same recording?
Unfortunately not 🙁 You’d need Logic to have multiple time signatures.

if you are wondering why the dropdown menu won't pop up at 0:56 go to Preferences, Sound/Midi, and make sure Enable Audio Units is checked on.

Great tutorial - thank you! How can I get the sample to continue to play without holding down the key? When I let up, the sample stops and I would like to continue to play until complete.

Is there any way to maintain the tempo of the sample?
Hey so when I play a note from a pack I put into the sampler, instead of it being sustained, it holds for a little bit and then switches to short notes repeating. How do I fix this?
I need help with drummer; the beats are all needlessly complex. Where can I go to learn how to get a basic four in the bar pattern?

for 2022 go to any other apple instrument then click au sampler then stereo and it should work :)

are there any 3rd party sample plugins for garageband on mac? using the sampler for wav files with the sample start factor isn't efficient or visually captivating.

Hello Patrick. Thanks for this tutorial. At 4:07 you mention that you can load a DLS or a EXS file. After that you choose a .sf2 file, so a SOUNDFONT file. I have several of them, stored at my Macintosch HD at Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks. I have there a nice klavecimbel, namen Blanchet-1720.sf2, and Carillon de Gand.sf2. I follow your steps, but they do not play. Other instrument, that I added to Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components DO play. What is the difference, and why don't I get my .sf2 files to play? If I open the .sf2 file in Polyphone 2.2 sound font editor all the sounds are available, so imho the sound font itself is in good order! Can you help me with this?
i had a similar question in a different variation.
I tried to add the Nintendo pack from the link, and was only able to use 1 instrument.
Am i wrong in the belief the .s2f file has multiple types of instruments and we are supposed to be able to choose them after loading the file into sampler?
Or are we supposed to go into the .s2f file first and seperate by instruments, and only load 1 instrument per Layer instead of the whole pack?
or does the file only have 1 sound and there is different files per instrument already.....
i hope this makes sense
Does it only access sampled sound files, or can it create its own samples from live sounds the way the iOS GarageBand sampler can?
No, you can only import sounds unfortunately.
How come AU Sampler isn't in my garageband like your tutorial says?
hi, i wish your tutorial helped me out, but when i go to ausampler>stereo, instead of a keyboard/way of making a sample garageband just opens up to a window with a bunch of sliders. is there something i'm doing wrong?

You need to use GarageBand’s musical typing or a MIDI controller to ‘play’ the sampler. The small keyboard attached to the Sampler won’t work.
Hey, so on my Mac the selection thing at 0:56 just doesn't pop up, there's no button next to 'E-piano' even when I hover over it or click it. Is there anything else I could do?

@@balajiprasanna1203 Click on GarageBand in the toolbar at the top left of your screen, then click on Preferences. In the General tab, uncheck the box marked ‘open plugins in controls view by default’. Then restart GarageBand.

No Not Even that. Just the interface of the smart control changes but thats all. So there is no Sampler Interface.
I don’t get any interfaces for any plugins on garage band. I’m not sure if it’s because I haven’t purchased logic or not? But all I get are the smart controls and the GarageBand version of interfaces

I followed all the steps, but the AU sampler/keyboard bit/place where you load your samples, doesn't show up. I've tried using CMD+K, but it just brings up the ordinary musical typing one. I've used the sampler before, but not had this issue, normally the sample load bit shows up straight away. yes, I have enable audio units on. I'm at a loss!
Are you clicking on the sampler plugin in the plugin menu where you load it into? It doesn’t appear automatically.

If the keyboard doesn't show up. Click on Garageband at the top left, click on settings and turn off, "Open plug-ins in Controls view by default." This setting was driving me crazy.

Apparently a simple pitch shifter with tempo and pitch lock is too much for garage band to handle. What a joke.
Not sampling. Just loading sounds. Sampling is recording a piece of audio and then manipulating and playing the sounds as an instrument. SP12 in 1985. MPC in 1988. Hard to believe you simply cannot record a sample.
