Good job. That is perfect how you got the amp draw within its limit and then it craps out. Just shows the challenges of our work.
Exactly, and if I would have replaced it prior without being positive I would have been a parts changer. 😂🙄
Amazing that a motor that checks out well electrically was probably the cause of the problem. It did look pretty old but you managed to keep a r22 unit alive.
Thanks Brad! I tried to get it cooler in there for them. It was 79 in there. lol
".... Looked like a tornado coming, other then that..." I love it.. You don't hear that everyday.
🤣😁👍👍
Awesome video Rick! Lots of good stuff in this video, I like the way you wrap up your test leads and your dry humor is awesome! keep up the great videos!
Thanks Ryan 👍👍
Great customer service, keep up the great work !
Thanks Bear, I appreciate it 👍👍
Great video! Lots of good tips for viewers and an enjoyable presentation.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback 👍👍
Good job, be safe !
🤜🤛👍👍
Don't feel bad you did a good job bro . I had the same problem last week.
Yeah, crap happens 👍👍😁
Another great video Rick
Thank You
Thanks Tony 🤜🤛👍👍
Good info. Thanks. Just passed thru Ohio on my way to MI. Pretty state!
It has its ups and downs. Its not bad but I think everyone thinks there is greener grass somewhere. Thanks for watching!
Superb video mate, keep up the good work and keep the videos comin 👌👌👍👍
Thanks Mark👍👍I appreciate the view!
Great video. Stay safe.
Thanks bud 👍👍🤜🤛
Good job 👍🏻
👍👍Thank you!
Good one Rick
Thank you sir👍👍
Great job and video
Thanks man 👍👍🤜🤛
Great video, again thx for knowledge. As you say cant always trust the amp draws.
Crazy stuff, probably a mechanical failure more than a electrical failure, who knows 👍👍 thanks 4 watching!
At least those coils were held together with a screw, I think carrier owns stock in a zip tie company, every commercial unit i split coils on is zip tied together
Yeah, I hate having up split coils. About every manufacture has there issues but some have more than others.
Thx nice work
I appreciate you watching 👍👍
Nice work rick , covering all corners ! Just hate when you come back an fine a motor crap out , all part of the game . Thanks
Good to hear from you! Yeah, it happens, luckily I wasn't as far away as this call was normally and that I had to go back anyway. Thanks 4 watching 👍👍
+1 nice repair
Thank you 👍👍
Good service run thru . We all know it's tired might get a couple of more seasons out of it . That bad motor was heating up and dropping out those are hard to spot . That unit looked like it's older than 10 year's old .
Thanks man 👍👍. It's probably 15 plus years old.
I’m finding that more and more come up to something locked out reset it. Check amps capacitor and temperature of the motor two days later come back and bam motors dead. First summer I have been having that gone on so often.
I hear ya!
People who put rooftop units on roofs like that need to be smacked. Like anyone is going to change those filters with any regularity. On another note, a tip that I learned recently as a system design engineer. Always hook up a two stage thermostat when using a Honeywell JADE or Belimo ZIP economizer module. Even if the unit is only single stage. This arrangement will allow for the compressor to operate to supplement the economizer when it needs just a little more capacity. Otherwise you can end up with the economizer full open, not cooling the space well, and a false no-cooling call to the tech. Then they have to mess with the controller and set it to lower threshold to allow economizing, resulting in greater energy use. Love the videos!
Thank you! Your absolutely correct, you should have a 2 stage thermostat. I'm surprised they don't have a option in the Jade controller to use a time delay to upstage the mechanical cooling since they have the settings to lockout mechanical depending on the outdoor ambient because running a larger stat wire isn't always possible or economical. Good point 👍👍
Any boss I've ever had doesn't let us work in the rain because you could get electrocuted...I've still done it before though. But my lifes more important than a service call lol
never heard of a gas station heating the place with the walk-ins seem like it would be a good idea if your climate is just right
It was mainly the reach in coolers that were creating the heat load. The walk-ins were vented outside.
@@HVACRSurvival reach-ins make alot more since for a gas station than walk-ins don't know what I was smoking when I said that
When you remove your gauges. Remove the high side and open both the valves and the compressor will pull the refrigerant out of your gauges.
👍👍👍That is how I have been doing it for years, that's also how I can use 6' hoses on reach in machines with critical charges.
Only if you purge the air that’s trapped in the manifold first :-O
That's the first thing I do after I hook up, I bleed suction out the very end of my yellow hose, then I do the high side the same way. I do this in the beginning because I've had times that I forgot to and possible trapped air in the system when I dumped it back in. 😎🙈
HVACR Survival That’s good man! A LOT of techs are taught wrong about the whole “open up the manifold to dump the gas back in” not realizing they are putting air/possibly different refrigerant (depending on what they used their gauges on last) into the system!
True story 👍👍
Makes me wonder, with the trap being all gunked up if the float was shutting the unit down. Never seemed to shut off again after flushing the trap. Did you by chance check the pan for water before cleaning out drain? Just a guess, good work tho You are right, never rush it
I didn't see a float plus when I came back the next day, as you seen in the video, it wasn't running and that was after I had cleaned the trap. Good thought though 👍👍
@@HVACRSurvival Honestly, i backed out of the video at the end of the first part, thinking it was over. Did not se where the motor froze up Still a little odd that it was shutting down even while motor was operating Wonder if it wasn't getting up to speed ? Either way, good work brother keep it up I move from resi to commercial here in about a week Watching all the videos i can to try and prepare haha
You said i the video that the fan was running it's limit current wise. So I'm thinking it was on it's way out then. Plus I'm thinking it was bouncing of a limiter somewhere, but I've no idea which one. That being said I don't think it's the low pressure!
Yeah, I think it was a multiple offender. It was likely shutting down from the freezestat due to dirty filters oh, and if that wasn't causing issues then the high pressure switch was tripping because the fan was shutting off. All 3 limits were all in series and I had no way of knowing which one was which. Thanks 4 watching 👍👍
If it’s hot out and everything checks while I’m there, but it was obviously not working prior, I usually swap out the condenser motor. In 14 years I’ve learned that 98% of the time it’s the damn condenser motor dropping out at the peak of the day. I always run it by the customer, and they’re usually cool with it. I’ve only had maybe 2-3 call backs in over a decade.
Sounds like a good idea 👍👍. I thought that motor was starting slow but wasn't positive. Plus it still doesn't make sense why it dropped out while the fan was running when I first got they're. It could have been multiple issues happing at once.
You’re the man Rick, always good content 🤙🏽
I wish Ray 👍👍. Thanks 4 watching man!
Rey I would totally agree with you on changing it which has always been my thought as well. But commercially this year with Covid customers want to spend $0 and fix it for $0 so it sucks!!!
You can do everything right, and still have problem. It's the nature of the game.
Yea, I wasn't going to be hit for a call back since I had to go back anyway and I documented everything I did. Thanks 4 watching 👍👍
Seems to happen a lot where the customer calls for a recurring problem , and once you get there it's running and it doesn't trip the whole time you're there .
And of course , once you're gone , surprise surprise it trips again !
That just drives me mad when it happens , because you did everything you could , but both the customer and your supervisor think it's somehow your fault .
What you gonna do ey !
It can be a difficult one to get the first time with 100% accuracy but I had a feeling the motor was a little off. No one will say anything about this call, another cool thing about recording your work is you can prove you did all that you did. Thanks 4 watching 👍👍
You are Slick Rick , not Prick Rick ...Lol ... Great bourbon worthy vid ...
Lol. Thanks bud👍👍
👍
Hows the new school job working out? Thanks for watching!
Wershed off da coils huh
Word 👍👍
That's how it works. Up hill battle
The pain is real 🤣🤣👍👍🤜🤛
👍👍👍
👍👍🤜🤛
Is a employee supposed to go up on the roof to change the filters? I wouldn't think so. Roofs and ladders suck. Where's the A/C? On the roof!
I wouldn't send a general labor employer up on the roof to get hurt....It's the owners responsibility to maintain there equipment by either doing it themselves or hire a company like us to do it. The roof is a common location for commercial building applications. Thanks for watching 👍👍
@@HVACRSurvival Being sarcastic is all. Roof work is one of the reasons I got out of the trade. In my opinion all equipment should be on the ground and accessable for servicing.
#60 thumbs uP
Thanks Steve 👍👍
So the moral of this video - keep some dry clothes in your van in case you have to change a fan motor under a tornado?
That's never a bad idea👍👍
Wow year old filters?
2 years. 7/2018
They haven't called for service for a long time and it has new owners. 🤷🏻♂️🤣
