    Good job. That is perfect how you got the amp draw within its limit and then it craps out. Just shows the challenges of our work.

      Exactly, and if I would have replaced it prior without being positive I would have been a parts changer. 😂🙄

    Amazing that a motor that checks out well electrically was probably the cause of the problem. It did look pretty old but you managed to keep a r22 unit alive.

    People who put rooftop units on roofs like that need to be smacked. Like anyone is going to change those filters with any regularity. On another note, a tip that I learned recently as a system design engineer. Always hook up a two stage thermostat when using a Honeywell JADE or Belimo ZIP economizer module. Even if the unit is only single stage. This arrangement will allow for the compressor to operate to supplement the economizer when it needs just a little more capacity. Otherwise you can end up with the economizer full open, not cooling the space well, and a false no-cooling call to the tech. Then they have to mess with the controller and set it to lower threshold to allow economizing, resulting in greater energy use. Love the videos!

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před 3 lety

      Thank you! Your absolutely correct, you should have a 2 stage thermostat. I'm surprised they don't have a option in the Jade controller to use a time delay to upstage the mechanical cooling since they have the settings to lockout mechanical depending on the outdoor ambient because running a larger stat wire isn't always possible or economical. Good point 👍👍

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před 2 lety

      It was mainly the reach in coolers that were creating the heat load. The walk-ins were vented outside.

    When you remove your gauges. Remove the high side and open both the valves and the compressor will pull the refrigerant out of your gauges.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před 3 lety

      👍👍👍That is how I have been doing it for years, that's also how I can use 6' hoses on reach in machines with critical charges.

    • @jonathanschulz5841
      @jonathanschulz5841 Před 3 lety +1

      Only if you purge the air that’s trapped in the manifold first :-O

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před 3 lety +2

      That's the first thing I do after I hook up, I bleed suction out the very end of my yellow hose, then I do the high side the same way. I do this in the beginning because I've had times that I forgot to and possible trapped air in the system when I dumped it back in. 😎🙈

    • @jonathanschulz5841
      @jonathanschulz5841 Před 3 lety +1

      HVACR Survival That’s good man! A LOT of techs are taught wrong about the whole “open up the manifold to dump the gas back in” not realizing they are putting air/possibly different refrigerant (depending on what they used their gauges on last) into the system!

    Makes me wonder, with the trap being all gunked up if the float was shutting the unit down. Never seemed to shut off again after flushing the trap. Did you by chance check the pan for water before cleaning out drain? Just a guess, good work tho You are right, never rush it

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před 3 lety

      I didn't see a float plus when I came back the next day, as you seen in the video, it wasn't running and that was after I had cleaned the trap. Good thought though 👍👍

      @@HVACRSurvival Honestly, i backed out of the video at the end of the first part, thinking it was over. • @stephenhunter70
    @stephenhunter70 Před 3 lety +1

    You said i the video that the fan was running it's limit current wise. So I'm thinking it was on it's way out then. Plus I'm thinking it was bouncing of a limiter somewhere, but I've no idea which one. That being said I don't think it's the low pressure!

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před 3 lety

      Yeah, I think it was a multiple offender. It was likely shutting down from the freezestat due to dirty filters oh, and if that wasn't causing issues then the high pressure switch was tripping because the fan was shutting off. All 3 limits were all in series and I had no way of knowing which one was which. Thanks 4 watching 👍👍

  • @reyrodriguez1005
    @reyrodriguez1005 Před 3 lety +1

    If it’s hot out and everything checks while I’m there, but it was obviously not working prior, I usually swap out the condenser motor. In 14 years I’ve learned that 98% of the time it’s the damn condenser motor dropping out at the peak of the day. I always run it by the customer, and they’re usually cool with it. I’ve only had maybe 2-3 call backs in over a decade.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před 3 lety +1

      Sounds like a good idea 👍👍. I thought that motor was starting slow but wasn't positive. Plus it still doesn't make sense why it dropped out while the fan was running when I first got they're. It could have been multiple issues happing at once.

    Seems to happen a lot where the customer calls for a recurring problem , and once you get there it's running and it doesn't trip the whole time you're there .
    And of course , once you're gone , surprise surprise it trips again !
    That just drives me mad when it happens , because you did everything you could , but both the customer and your supervisor think it's somehow your fault .
