Avengers: Infinity War was such a thrill ride, but it left us with a lot of unanswered questions. There were so many times that the gang came close to removing Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet only for someone or something to go wrong at the last minute. We were left muttering “what if” to ourselves over and over again. We’re looking at you Star-Lord and your terrible lack of self control.
One of the most questionable moments was when Groot was able to lift up Thor’s new weapon, Stormbreaker. If no one but Thor and Vision could’ve lifted up Mjolnir, how could Groot lift up Stormbreaker? There’s no way he’s worthy of the weapon. Well, while Mjolnir and Stormbreaker might look like the same type of weapon, they’re vastly different. The Russo brothers themselves have come up with a simple, yet effective explanation to how Groot was able to do the impossible.

Stormbreaker didn't have Odin enchant it like Mjolnir did. Remember, Odin whispered into Mjolnir only, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, he shall possess the power of Thor," but he didn't with Stormbreaker, because he was already dead at that point

Its an enchantment that when lose his hammer, villain or unauthorized would weild it.
1. Stormbreaker is an axe without a worthiness enchantment.
2. Anyone can lift it, given they are supernatural (it is probably too heavy for a normal human to lift it, much less wield it)
3. Groot felt pain since he was holding very hot, heavy, metal
4. Yes, Captain America was able to wield the hammer in Age of Ultron, he just didn't because he didn't want to embarrass Thor.

Firstly, Groot was in pain lifting it up because the weapon was literally millions of degrees hot...
Secondly, it's not even a goddamn hammer, it's an axe called Stormbreaker...
Thirdly, Groot didn't lift it up because he was worthy and the other Avengers weren't. Odin didn't put the "Worthiness Enchantment" on Thor's axe, only on his hammer Mjolnir.
Fourthly, you don't need brute strength to be able to lift up Stormbreaker, it's made of the metal Uru and nothing more, thus rendering it as a weapon that is forged just as any other sword or axe is...

The reason Groot could lift the Stormbreaker is because he was aligned with it’s will. Meaning he was helping it to become whole by sacrificing his arm as the handle.

First of all: Stormbreaker is an Axe. Thats the one that Groot lifted in Avengers Endgame. Groot never lifted the hammer.
The Axe doesn't have the Worthiness Enchantment. Technically everybody can lift Stormbreaker.

You also have to remember that Thor knows the language “Groot” and they taught it on Asgard, why out of seemingly, an infinite amount of languages why do they teach Groots language? Maybe Groots kind isn’t as random or powerless as they seem, maybe they’re some kind of god or probably not. Just a fun theory
One of thor's powers is the "golden tongue" he can speak any language in the universe, look it up.

Here is a second theory, In the comics (Namely the female thor series), Mjölnir was sentient and could choose it's wielder. It's possible the same could be said for Stormbreaker, If so them it could understand Groot's intentions of making the handle and possibly grant a temporary allowance without destroying him

Stormbreaker was actually a weapon made to kill Thor. When Hela went bad Odin cast her out. Odin thought that if Thor went bad too then he needed a weapon strong enough to defeat him since he knew Thor' Abilities and Powers since Thor's birth. The reason it is named stormbreaker is because
it can stop and defend from storms. And the God of storms is the God Of Thunder himself since it was shown in Thor 1 that Thor created a storm to destroy the destroyer. The reason why Elitri gave him the weapon was that he had to take revenge from Thanos. Hope everybody liked this information.

The reason Groot AND Cap can lift Stormbreaker, as we see in Endgame, is because unlike Mjolnir, there is no enchantment placed on Stormbreaker. This is further what allows Thanos to catch it and use it to drive into Thor’s chest. Odin very specifically places the enchantment on the hammer to teach Thor a lesson in humility. This is further evident when Thanos knocks Mjolnir out of Cap’s hand not by grabbing the hammer but by grabbing Cap’s wrist and dislodging it.

If Stormbreaker did have the worthiness enchantment, Groot would have still been able to pick it up as he had no other intentions for the hammer. That also is the reason Vision was able to pick it up whereas if say Ultron tried, he would fail due to his malicious intentions for the Mjolnir...

Maybe loki is God but he's not odinson (he is adopted)... Which means that he's not able to carry mjolnir.... Thor brought vision to life with mjolnir... Which means he's like son of thor (or he can lift it cause he's not human being)...... Thats my version of what is going on in the movies :D

Groot could hold the ax because it was not yet complete without it's handle and thus it's enchantments were not yet active. Once Groot gave it a handle, then it became Storm Breaker, an artifact with a personality and rules to its use.
Also, the weapon's handle is not supposed to be made of Grootwood. This may now have given it some new abilities or limitations for us to discover later... like maybe an invulnerable handle. The Grootwood handle is a living thing that can grow and repair its own damage and the hammer repairs damage to it's wielder already. This

If you’ve seen guardians of the galaxy vol1 and the beginning of vol2 u should know groot can regenerate so therefore he can regenerate and cut off parts are still alive

What enchantments?!!?!?? Thors father is dead and therefore does NOT have any enchantments you. The ONLY way others couldn't lift his HAMMER was because of the enchantments and people will be able to lift the AXE because its doesn't have anything special holding it in place. The axe is a completely different weapon and has different abilities

My guess is that the reason Groot was able to pick up the two pieces of stormbreaker was because he made the handle and also he is 0% human cuz no other humans or things that actually has a heart can pick up stormbreaker or mjolnir but because Groot is kind of a walking 🌲 he was able to do that

He didn't pick up the hammer he picked up two pieces of metal with his arm. It only became and full hammer with a handle after he chopped his arm off. If he was to try picking it up after chopping his arm off I doubt it would have been successful.

guys, you dont have to be worthy to hold the storm breaker because in endgame you can clearly see thanos holding it up against thors chest and when captain comes with the hammer he throws the hammer but uses caps hand not the handle cause hes not worthy but if he was he would take both weapons and win.

I believe that either way enchanted or not Groot is worthy his willingness to sacrifice for Thor showed that and his pain could have bred because the metal was very how or because he was baby Groot and the weight would be hard to lift for him.

I actually believe that, should the writers of the comic series ever get Groot and Thor together, Groot would actually be able to lift mjolnir, even with the enchantment.
