Today I went to the Venice Beach homeless justice committe to record the speech and what those people have to say people did not welcome me they were standing in front of my camera flipping me off so I could not record them speaking I try to talk to them why are they so aggressive towards me but they did not want to respond - Zábava

LA has always ignored Venice and because of it became a spot where poor people especially those who emigrated here to live. So it’s never been taken care of or had any amount of wealth. Also by California’s standards over 3/4 of the state’s population is well below the poverty line. The state is too expensive for its people to live in. The state is failing.

I don't understand. I feel so bad for German in Venice. He's always been kind, respectful, honest and generous to people when reporting on this. This is very upsetting, I can't imagine how GIV feels. Hang in there ❤️
German in Venice is an incredible man an amazing soul, the problem is that most the individuals there don't have any souls.
GiV has the right stance on this issue.
What they are saying is that his videos are bringing too much attention to their situation, and instead of resolving it the government is just making people move on….
And second thing he said was his videos are promoting Venice beach to other homeless people, so then they come from other areas…. And they don’t like that.

The guy talking is correct. There are plenty of structures to live in, everywhere you go. They aren’t being utilized due speculative real estate interests, shady agencies doing the bare minimum while collecting their non profit paychecks and using funds for their own needs that were allocated to help those without shelter, and the assumption that in order to qualify for a roof you must have only 2 people per bedroom, have utilities, etc etc. Some people just want a roof. Some people comfortable on the floor, no TV, no garbage disposal. The issue is the poop and pee which is easily solvable, you just make composting toilets and mix the waste with the grass clippings from the boardwalk lawns, it breaks down over time, and you have fertilizer. So that brings us to the next problem, which is government agencies getting in the way of grass roots efforts due to “uncleanliness”. A composting toilet is clean, but no govt agencies will make any money off it so it’s deemed worthless.
Citizens who pay taxes and work their butts off shouldn't have to put up with crap like this. The government would just love to sweep it under the rug. I am glad it is being exposed.

He's showing a tiny area how it is. In my experience, most people don't realize how vast LA is. The issue in Venice has been perpetuated for years, but there's a lot of issues to it which don't really get addressed when you're only viewing it from a 10-minute video.

Watched these Vlogs many times and never once have I heard GiV bash the homeless. I can hear the compassion in his Vlogs. The woman at the beginning was out of line period. At least the 2nd guy had a civil conversation even if he was a bit off base. Good job GiV.

@Meeso Lansing 100% this! Yes, there is that element in the homeless community, and there’s no shortage of enabled drug addicts as well. But... the majority are a mix of people who have fallen on hard times and are priced out of moving into an apartment alone without help, and well meaning people with mental health issues that don’t have an adequate support system. I’ve lost count of how many people Mike has interviewed who are genuinely good people on hard times, many even working full time or more, explaining the overwhelming hurdles preventing them from getting stable housing and employment. I genuinely believe Mike values them as people who are a part of community, and is trying to give them visibility when the LA city and CA state government would rather hide the issue from public view. Not only in Venice, but also Skid Row and other places around the City of Angels.

Venice used to be beautiful and clean. It’s not anymore.
There are drunks and drug addicts begging on the streets. There are people masturbating in broad daylight in the beachfront parks, and there are needles and human feces there too.
You videos don’t capture that.
A lot of people do not “feel” it is safe anymore for families and children.
Truth is most homeless suffer from mental illness, drug abuse and resulting unemployment. Government benefits financially incentivize more drug abuse, unemployment and homelessness.
That’s not even debatable anymore.
How can there be homeless in CA with millions of medium and higher paying jobs unfilled right now?
Because drug abuse is now pervasive, working is no preferred, it requires getting clean and staying clean. Drug abuse recidivism is extremely high. And for too many homeless sadly their mental illness is too severe, and they are not getting the help and support and perpetual follow up care they need.
He is right about one thing. The homelessness starts at the top. CA policies out of Sacramento made Venice, and many other beautiful CA cities and communities the day camps strewn with refuse that they are right now. The cop clean ups are purely cosmetic and are forcing homeless into residential areas and parks.
Keep doing what you are doing.
But these critical voices are saying they don’t like your bias in filming, they want a different bias slant that they alone approve of

Your filming is better because you are just filming what any visitor to Venice would no doubt witness with their own eyes.

The notion that there is mo help available is also absurd. No state wastes more money on incompetent social programs than California. Entire European countries don’t spend one tenth as much as CA does.

Even back in the days Venice was scary and dangerous in some areas I've seen people shot and stabbed when I was a kid. On Venice Beach! You telling how it is and no one should be mad at you for that. I f you were to “candy coat” your footage, it would be a disservice to these people. I actually think that the “van life” type CZcamsrs have contributed to the homeless problem by glamorizing homelessness. People think they are going to live free and travel the country in a van, then they blow a radiator and end up living under an overpass.

i have read many personal stories of those who tried to help the homeless and not wait for gov to do it from what they said they regretted it. most do not want to meet people half way. they want their lifestyle to continue but still have housing and food, they want it to be given to them, welcome to the gov programs. welfare etc were safty nets not a lifestyle but to many people are making money off gov money in administering it they dont want it ot end. so blame government programs not the landlords nad average joe. frankly working on our spiritural need Jesus spoke about will give one the incentive to do what is right regardless of circumstances. bible principles are a god send, (Pun intended)when dealing with problems. well it is for me, and many of my friends who learn and apply it.
I think you are doing a good job documenting the situation in Venice. I have great compassion for the homeless and have tried to help them in a different city in the area I live in. Some you cannot help. The people that raised the homeless issue and complained were wealthy property owners in Venice. They wanted the encampments out. My friend works for the county parks system and has a lot of dealings with homeless people. He treats them nicely but he has had knives pulled on him and been screamed at for doing his job. There are some criminal homeless people that are ruining it for the others. They are all strung out and dont want any help. There will always be people trying to blame you. If he doesn't like it, that guy should make his OWN videos showing Venice the way HE wants it shown!!

I was on Venice beach in 1995 there were no homeless camping on the boardwalk. There were some downtown under the bridge but none on the beach. It was great to see you not backing down German. You do nothing wrong in your videos, keep up the good work my friend.

When I was on the train in NYC, a gentleman gave his takeout food to a homeless guy before he got off. The homeless guy opened up the food container, looked at it and made a face, and when the door opened at the next stop, he sat the food outside on the platform. Unfortunately, not everyone will will be grateful when you try to help.

The reason I follow this channel is for the unbiased view of the daily happenings in a part of town that I haven't frequented for nearly a decade. I'm aware of the issues going on in that community, but not well enough to make an informed argument. GIV has always struck me as a man sharing what he enjoys in life. GIV's content is fairly consistent, enough to guess this dude's true intentions. The German in Venice has been as a local resident for 30 years. He isn't some tourist or some dude from the OC. Nobody should be showing this any hostility or disrespect.

There's a reason why GIV gets 100s of thousands of views, he is there in Venice every day! His channel is showing everyone the daily updates and issues it goes through, NO ONE else is currently doing that, this channel is 100% honest and your narration is why I watch. The homeless people in Venice live just like they do here in Santa Cruz. Opportunities are offered but many choose to live that lifestyle! You can't help someone if that person has no interest in changing. The interview with the coffee guy was genuine and he's cool for actually pointing out what he feels is wrong with the channel without making it a show.

This was one of the best videos yet, because the person being interviewed so eloquently implored an expanded scope. GIV does well when he brings a bigger picture and when he explores root causes in interviewing the affected parties. Vagrant lives matter.
What that black dude is missing is GIV is not there to make a documentary about the "big picture". He is just filming the reality of Venice Beach as it is on a given day from ground level. German in Venice asked the man why people are angry and he gave a straight answer: Because the homeless population believes they are being portrayed as parasites. That is understandable. Then after a 15 minute conversation German in Venice told the guy to "say it to my face" when that's what he was doing the whole time LMAO
This is the most right wing statement made. Because they are poor, its there fault. You have to get to root causes of homelessness. Many of these people fell on hard times through no fault of their own. The drug addiction is symptomatic of greater problems they faced many times, many times they have PTSD. There is a disproportionate amount of black and brown people i see all over California that are homeless. There is no reason the man being interviewed should be sleeping in his car with his level of intelligence.
