Remember when faded Gibsons were more affordable? I miss those days
Pepperidge Farm remembers
these are cheap
Yep. Still have my 2004 faded double cut in TV yellow. Fantastic instrument for the money.
Do you mean the ones based on the Studios with no binding, worse pickups and no maple tops? These are based on the Standard, which in that case, 2000s Standard Fadeds go for +2500 because of desirability. So inmy opinion, these are a pretty good value.
Heck I'm so old I remember when we could get Les Paul's and Strat's for $300. In fact as a new guitar player my 1st guitar was a 74 hardtail maple neck Strat. For $300. Could've got a Les Paul then but the gut teaching me had a gold top Les Paul deluxe and I wasn't comfortable with the neck. But loved maple neck Strats. That 74 hardtail could be a dream now but I'm really pleased with my 90's deluxe plus Strat and Les Paul studio. Both are great hot rods IMHO.
Edit What I forgot to put in this it was mid 70's probably 76 when I bought my 1st Strat. Played it til the neck wore out. Stupidly traded for a totally hot rodded partscastor.
Guillaume and Kris, you guys rules, : ) , these uploads are fantastic. I also love your mini lessons, just gets me out of “rut” to learn a new riff. Greetings from LA California
That Les Paul you're playing on the left towards the beginning of this video sounds absolutely incredible my friend
Gibson should bring the really great colors back to the les paul standard like Lemon drop and honeyburst. Not only in a faded Version.
Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" Faded?
I have an original faded Les Paul since 2007 and it’s my favorite guitar. Cool these are coming back.
That price for a faded is ridiculous
and the top is really ugly
It’s a faded finish, not the faded line. Faded line is a lower than studio level guitar with no binding and shitty pickups.
Ten years ago, I got my 2005 Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded in a second hand store for 650 €. Glad that I didn't miss the chance. Nowadays it would be impossible for me to get one, given those prices, even second-handed. At least, we have HB. I think I'll get myself some Harley Benton Junior for less than 10% of the new faded's price🙂
The Sg Gibson standard faded 61 vibrola I see in this video, has it got the pickup Gibson Burstbucker 61R and 61T? Thanks!
gorgeous jam!
I don't know if the 50s or 60s spec sound any different, but i'd definitely pick the SG!
I'd be really tempted by that SG, but I wish it had the option for a faded brown/natural finish
Maybe I’m missing something buy why are these more affordable? According to Thomann’s prices a Les Paul standard is 300€ cheaper than these series!
I have the same interrogation 🤔
I don't understand why it's more affordable and not cheaper...
Same goes for the SG. The regular Maestro is more expensive.
It is because all German dealers raised the prices for the Les Paul Standard from 2298 Euro to 2499 Euro at the beginning of September. All within the same week. You know what is happening there... But noch the all went back to the old price. So I guess this video was recorded when the prices were up for the standards.
Because the thinner “faded” nitro finish and that it’s advertised as a AA flame top. The standards have a glossy nitro and are advertised with AAA tops.
It's not the case here in England, the faded are around £2000 Vs £2400 for the normal standards
I played the 50s Standard at Guitar Center yesterday and I do not like how small the frets are. I was pretty surprised at that. So the pickups and neck are not the only differences. The 60s frets are taller and I prefer that.
Both of my Trad Pro Vs' are faded. Love the fade
A Standard Les Paul is 2300€ and the Faded is 2500€ now? How is that possible? The high gloss lacquer needs more layers.
That's why the Faded Models (or the Tributes until 2018) were cheaper than the Studio/Standard a few years back.
I have an 2011 Les Paul Sudio Faded Cherry an upgraded the pots fpr CTS 500k in 50´s wiring with paper in oil caps lightweight faber stoptail and the tune o matic of my Tokai with brass saddles that Guitar ist Killer . The Price New was 699 for the Guitar and 150 for the Upgrades and its resonate so much
I just got my 50s standard last week! I agree that the tuners are why I love the 50s model more. I also love the thicker neck
Enjoy that beauty! //Kris
My 3rd guitar from Thomann in the last 12 months just arrived today.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, a good early 2000’s Classic is the best bang for buck. A few minor updates if you don’t like the PUPS and you have an ink stamped serial, true ABR bridge and a well put together guitar. I got my last one for £1350 and that was cheaper than what I paid for one 8 years ago. It’s great. I think in 2004 they went Nashville bridge but put in the thin binding in the cutaway whilst retaining the ink stamp, so depending on what you like there are plenty across the range to get a decent guitar that fits your needs. Anything 90’s adds a little premium as does does a plus top, but 2003 and earlier you can’t go wrong. In my opinion. The newer ones also seem to have had a return to form. I’ve had two 2008 reissues, an R8 and R9, certainly great guitars and I’d gladly own more but in todays age, talking VALUE, that’s my choice all day long.
Gibson prices have gone nuts over the last decade. I paid much less than this (£1699) for a Les Paul Traditional ten years ago.
I paid £4 for Lurpak 10 months ago, now it's £8, costs go up...
It’s because labor costs more! I’m always hearing others yell about how everyone deserves a high wage yet these same individuals turn around and complain every single time they’re the chance to support the businesses who are actually paying their employees well!
TIs almost like, wait for it, inflation exists.
Love the SG! It’s the star of the show.
Hows the tuning if you don't use the vibrola? How is it if you do? =)
So how long until the price of the Standard series will rise to 2800 Euros?
Ok sold! I want the 50’s one. How much!
Looks like the aged finishes on the Epiphone 59 LP Standard. Less buffing and labor should mean cheaper.
I love gibson les paul standard 50 faded honey
We want more videos of Julia. :(
Preferably playing bass lines to “I Shot the Sheriff”, or some Lynyrd Skynyrd or stuff like that. Those are fun bass lines.
O_O It’s beautiful. I wish the modern series were available in traditional finishes. I can’t live without the push pull knobs or weight relief. Especially when buying 2000 dollar + instrument. Closest I could get was a 2014 standard. But it doesn’t have quite the right finish and it has the horrible min-e tune system.
Are they any good ?
😆 I didn't think that Gibson could take the piss anymore than they're already doing.... I was wrong. Are those prices a misprint? - More affordable?!
That finish is what an SG finish should look like...imolol
I understand the other guys who comment first... why should i pay 300€ more for a guitar without pickup covers and without finish gloss? 🤷🏻♂️ i dont understand...
50’s for the win!
I actually really like these guitars, but I kind of think that mini-plexi was the star of the video.
In 2013 I bought a brand new faded SG Special for 699€.
the difference in tone between the 50's and 60's is compensated by turning the treble up 1 and the gain up 1. done. Give me the 50's and let's play metal
They look like the tribute les Paul with binding! Still cool though
Did I win??
Did someone mess with the settings of the video camera and turn on interlacing? Or maybe the video was badly resampled? It looks really bad and pixelated on my screen. :(
Why did I watch this waiting for specs? The tabs said specs. Telling me it has big neck isn't specs. It was loud, sounds great. Awesome. Does it have tuners? What kind of pickups? Is there a bridge or nut? O ly nuts I heard were these two guys. Lol.
Dude, these guitars have the exact same specs as the other 50's or 60's les pauls. Only the finish is other.
Oh man, just bought a 2005 faded..... GAS GAS GAS
Sorry but Gibson have lost the plot entirely. These should be in line with the current Tribute pricing and the Tribute should be around $900 at most. Pricing is even worse in Europe given the USD to Euro rates right now too. I can pick up a boutique built, fully custom single cut with all the Gibson Standard and even Custom shop trimmings for around 2500-3000 euros, including Gibson pickups, locking tuners, stainless frets and a bone nut. It would be a better built, playing and sounding guitar too.
Gibson has become the Louis Vuitton of the guitar world..... Just get a Harley Benton Gotoh for next to nothing and enjoy the value for your money😜
Wow, back in the day I wanted one but were sold out (les paul faded) €1400
So it peaked my interest... €2400 seriously?
They were supposed to be the more affordable version.
It's not a studio or a tribute ! It's a Standard version, blood and flesh !
@@Alan-jk5pr back in the day (I remember around 2005) there were Faded Les Paul standard for 1400/1500 euros. The lp studio faded were around €500/600
The tribute didn't even exist back then ;)
So, you played these guitars for a day and made a review of them?
Man they are just too expensive. And what's with the uncovered pickups? The Les Paul would look much nicer with covered pickups.
Personal preference. I like it more without.
For me I prefer uncovered and no scratch plate, so id plump for one of these rather than the extra £400 for normal standard. Troglys just reviewed one and he actually buffed the finish to get a very close gloss to the standards. Food for thought.
Why are they almost TRIPLE the price they used to be?! I'm in the UK and I know the pound is getting hammered into the floor right now but... Seriously?! That is insane money. What the hell Gibson?!
These faded are standard specs, only the finish is different. The older ones had many names, the tribute series was around £800/£1000, were weight relieved and more open pore finished than these are. These have binding and no weight relief and all the appointment's of the 50s/60s guitars. The tributes sat below the studios in terms of price, these are a different thing entirely. If your handy with some polish you can buff the finish yourself and get a standard finish and save £400 here in the UK
Wow, when I saw "New Gibson Faded" I immediately clicked on the video. Guitars are beautiful!
.... but then I checked the prices and was blown away. Are they just kidding? $2200 for SG Faded? Maybe they should have used a different name for it instead of "Faded"....?
That’s a good point
This top remind me of gary moore . At least , this guitar is better than kirk's "greeny" standard
The honey faded reminds me of Slash’s Jessica
These are going for $2,499 in the U.S. the same price as the new Classics. Interesting.
And to think you could get a used R8 or R7 for that not long ago.
More neck, more tone!
Prices are more than standard ridiculous
SG GAS 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Im not exactly feeling the price point of these, not sure, what gap they should fill.
The Les Paul sounded kinda close, the 50ties sounded bit less compressed and "looser", the 60ties tighter more focused. But sounded kinda close.
But the SG, oh my god, that was one hell of Rock and Roll monster sounding guitar. It might be just Guill magic, but we know, he must be inspired by the guitar first ;).
PS: I fell quite fitting, that the Strat guy is also the SG guy
Over 2000 euros for 'more affordable' guitars that haven't innovated in over 60 years.. Might as well get a Strandberg. I feel like Squier and Epiphone are way better for classic guitars
The les paul sounds better, the sg looks cool tho
Hardly affordable. 2499E for what looks like a bound tribute to me at least.
get a Harley Benton SC 450 and swap the pickups
Good job not telling us the specs like pickups.
Exactly the same burstbuckers as in the 50s and 60s standards but uncovered, Troglys guitar channel just reviewed one it's worth checking out.
why are Jackson and Gibson pushing out Made in USA Models, when we`re having a hardcore Inflation?
IS there even some kind of logic behind it?
Money, duh!
Best Gibson for the Buck?? Nah, that's gonna be a no for me dawg.
Only like $200-300 off? You might as well fork over the extra cash and get the real thing! These are just the prices standards were last year but with non-gloss finish and you can feel the wood grain.
I got a used 2010 faded LP for $300 2 years ago. What are they smoking lol
I love a good LP and SG, but there’s absolutely nothing rock’n’roll about Gibson anymore…
What the h are they thinking over there in americaland with their big cigars?
What about the Iommi eppi?
I got a Chibby Iommi. I call it my "Phony Iommi"
@@snap-off5383 😂👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Gibson's recent price hike in Japan is foolish .
where on earth is a 2500€ guitar an affordable one?!
my gibson is 5 grand this is cheap
@@sooparticular having a 5k guitar but sounding like 150€ squier isnt really an achievement
@@RiloRox oh youre talkin about yourself my apologies
Try getting in to watches, guitars are refreshingly priced!
@@xu10j4rs1 yeah but we are not talking about watches. We are talking about guitars
I'd rather have a shiny studio
You guys must be kidding? „THE no brainer for Gibson lovers“ - starting at 2.500€?
That’s what I call inflation😅
Shouldn't affordable mean cheaper. 2022 standard is cheaper than Faded. Wth? Must have been a price mistake or misunderstanding. Gibson come on!!
The best Gibson for the buck is a Harley Benton SC-550 II 😁
You can have your cheap made in China by slave labor counterfeit knock off! I also have a HB progressive myself and it’s a piece of crap! The stings are way to high, frets cut my fingers, never stays in tune, and it feels like it’s made out of plastic! There’s no comparison between this Chinese crap and a handmade made guitar made by American craftsman period! You’re a damn liar or have never even picked a Gipson much less owned one if you claim otherwise! Furthermore, the Harley isn’t worth jack squat the moment you bought it while my Les Paul will be worth more than I paid for it in a decade!
I sent mine back. I PLANNED to wet sand and polish it myself. NOPE. Not enough lacquer on back to even fill the grain. Bad BAD Gibson!
gibson guitars are getting less interesting every day. remember when they tried stuff? why not bring bsck the interesting 70s stuff like the SG deluxe?
nah...we release a faded SG that costs even more.
The best Gibson for the buck is a hardware swapped and fret-fixed Chibson.
Gibsons are expensive guitars
The LP looks dull & lifeless, whilst the SG looks fantastic.
Again...
Soooooooo over priced 😑
The Les Paul finishes are just ugly and have a cheap look.
PLAY AUTHENTIC!!! Lol the big gross corporation that purchased the Gibson brand the last time really thinks their basic ass guitars are worth a lot...
