Still remember back to early 90's when Eric Cantona urge sir alex and man united board to pursue young Zidane from league 1 club bordeaux..but sadly they said no! And that never happened..then he join serie A giant Juventus in 1996..And the rest is history..

Maradona, Zico, Platini, Laudrup - are vastly superior to Zidane.
Matthaus, Xavi, Iniesta, Modric, Pirlo, De Bruyine, Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, Rui Costa - are also superior to Zidane.

Interesting how he's never been brought up in the goat debate...he was such a clutch performer..i remember whenever there was a battle of the biggies he would always bring out his A game.... specially against a star studded Brazil...in '98 final, '06 QF even tho he was 34.. definitely top 5 of all time, if you really consider performing when needed.

Nowdays, players say a lot of crap for no reason. They probably feel the need to say something marketable. It was obvious to all spectators that Zidane was a fairly big and strong guy, especially in regards to his position. And when I say obvious, I mean Ray Charles could see it.
@@mskidi Zidane hardly ever lost the ball, and when he almost got tackled by 2 players he always found away to get the ball back, the man was strong as well as clever, always found a way to get out of difficult situation.
That's because that sort of close control and technique have historically always belonged to the smaller players. A trend which has continued. R9 and Zidane are big exceptions.

@@fbi..nasa. I don't think so,todays game is more tactical but the player are less technical.If people of todays game close him down they leave other opposing players free which is detrimental to them with the massive defence and massive attack principle.
As a Juve fan, i always felt it to be a missed opportunity that he didn't won a Champions cup there. Del Piero was injured for a year and Ancelloti just starting to handle big clubs with greater expectations. At the end probably best to rework the team instead.

Yes, he had skills,nobody ever denied that, but he wasn't that useful to a team compared to other legendary midfielders.
Zico, Platini, Laudrupp, Xavi, Iniesta, Modric - are far better than Zidane
@@michaeltrumph121 not even Platini himself thinks he was better than Zidane. Modric is a decent midfielder, far from being top 50 of all time. Xavi and Inesta - hard to tell. They were amazing players in an amazing team led by amazing managers. Whether they will be remembered for that or for they individual impacts remains to be seen.

Zidane was a genius as a player, for me better than Messi; he won more than Messi in his career. Having said that he is not a good coach at all. Someone that publicly says he does not care about tactics in football and that he relies more in the quality of his players tells you clearly he is not the person to build up a team
