    I just wanted to comment on a few questions here that don't seem to have been answered. You can use Microsoft Word to create the template if you don't have Photoshop. Use the insert WordArt tool, write the word you want to use in your desired font....then select shape fill. Choose the pattern fill and find the stripe pattern. I also would recommend you go for a thinner outline too.
    Also to ensure the word is central in the book I recommend you start in the middle of the book rather than the beginning. First find the middle of your book...then the middle of your word. Fold the right hand side of your word to the right and the left hand side of your word to the left. You should end up with equal pages at the beginning and end of the book if you haven't used all the pages to create the word. Hope this helps :)

    Great idea, really creative! Instead of cutting the remaining pages out and gluing them in the front, could you not do the whole thing starting from the middle and working your way out from there? That would leave you with the same amount of pages back and front and they would be in their original order. ;-)

  • @GrooveYouVerse

    Question for simplifying this process. Since adding the lines in the characters to represent each page, and you're not doing the complete full pixel character because of the optical illusion our eyes do to outline the end product to see the characters in folded pages, why not just type the characters in a imaged editor (MS Paint or similar should do), then compress the characters by resizing it horizontally to fit the width of the book when closed. Print out the "squeezed final printout" and take an exacto knife or pencil, and out line the pages on the side of the book. You're theoretically creating laying out the same foundation for each page as you would the manual method shown in this video.
    Eyeballing the printout in your video, if you were to fill in the gaps in the characters by realigning the edges of each black printed part of the letter, you would (again theoretically) get the same compressed/horizontally-resized letters. I'll see if I can post a response video to prove this, that way it would be quicker and easier (plus more efficient) then to mark your placement on a paper and continue to move the guide page in and out of the book.

      Nathaniel Kiger I would imagine you'd place the cut pages together between 2 heavy books and/or clamps with the cut edges sticking out slightly from the side. Paint some wood glue along the edges of pages and a few hours later once dry run a line of glue where you want the pages to go in the book and insert cut pages. I think.... but what do I know :)

    • @Diypics
      @Diypics  Před 9 lety +2

      That is correct, Janine. Each stripe only gets one fold. So you'd fold the top bit, move one stripe over, fold the middle bit, move one stripe over and fold the bottom bit. It's tricky keeping track of a three-level character because the tick marks may not look lined up. Just pay close attention and it'll work fine.

      Are you referring to something I mentioned? Sometimes I insert a fake page or more when the book has too few pages on its own.

    can you glue the pages? I am using a speciAl book for someone and the pages are thin like a bible.

    • @Diypics
      @Diypics  Před 8 lety

      +Patricia Anderson Hm. Good question. I would not glue the papers. You could just fold two pages for every stripe. That would help "fatten" it up.

    how did you get the letters to show so well? my letters seem to not be well defined with spaces where each fold was made and it makes it hard to read unless far away.

      Roopal Shroff To turn a silhouette into a pattern, download one of my striped backgrounds on diypics(dot)com and follow the same directions as for a word. Put the silhouette in a new layer, select everything outside the silhouette, then go to the background layer and hit "delete." Hide the silhouette layer and what's left if your striped pattern.

    How do you do •12 in book folding got stuck don't know how to work it out can you show me how to do it thanks lorraine

    • @Diypics
      @Diypics  Před 9 lety +1

      lorraine salter Everything has to be striped. If you're folding the dot, it should have 4 o 5 stripes. Fold it the same way you'd fold anything else. In this case, the top and bottom folds will almost touch. Also, ignore any spaces between letters or objects.
