    I love that there is a completion of professional Canadian teams with in different leagues. What would be even "COOLER" is a ranking system in Canada similar to the UK where teams are promoted or relegated. This type of system promotes club and player to advance

    • @TheArtistTreee
      @TheArtistTreee Před 22 dny +23

      I would love to see that too eventually. Unfortunately, I don't think the pro league and clubs are quite self-sustainable yet.
      For now they are focused on developing the CanPL and building the semi-professional leagues in all provinces first.
      I know Ligue1 Ontario has a promotion/relegation system implemented with 3 tiers.

    • @GdF420

      I definitively agree -
      Promotion-Relegation is the best system👍

    • @sowaveysuyat
      @sowaveysuyat Před 22 dny +17

      Simcoe isn't a fully professional team in this case, but pro/rel system will not work in Canada for the foreseeable future, if not ever. Reason being:
      The English football system has been around for 130 years and is 5000x more sophisticated. Across the top 4 tiers of English football there is over 90 pro teams.. Canada only has 8 + 3 MLS clubs. Its not even remotely close, and no where near sustainable financially for a pro team in the first division in Canada to be relegated, the owners would fold the team immediately and its back to square one.
      You can watch a 4th tier league game in England with 10,000 fans watching in the stadium, consistently .. CPL (first tier) can barely manage to get 2-3,000 people to most of the games. In England football is a religion and cultural pillar, communities support it to the fullest extent, there even the grandmas are die hard supporters of teams... in Canada, people care about Hockey, baseball, basketball, then soccer, etc. And even then, they don't even care about "hockey, basketball" etc more, they only support the huge franchises.
      First and foremost, pro sports are sustained through the community fans and support which is almost impossible to garner a cultural revolution to match that of European or South American football (for example).
      It just is not realistic in Canada therefore everyone knows its just not worth the talk. Its not even a talking standpoint for the MLS because MLS is based on franchise ownership, relegation would mean they are putting their franchise owners in financial dismay. I hope that helps 👍

      @@sowaveysuyat Nah, disagree with everything you said. That's some Timbits Soccer mentality/excuse. The real reason why pro/rel won't work for lower tier teams is the size of the country and the travel costs.

    • @sowaveysuyat
      @sowaveysuyat Před 22 dny +3

      @@TheWoollyFrog I could care less what you think.. You can disagree all you want... face the facts of the data at hand.. Canadian football system is lightyears away from being able to sustain a pro/rel system across multiple tiers.
      You think its just "travel costs" but thats just a cope, if every lower tier team had the same support that 4th tier teams in England did, travel cost doesn't mean shit because the very fact of being "PRO" means the organization can sustain itself hence why it has became fully professional.. duh... everything you talking about is the real lame excuses.
      Travel costs is an absolutely minuscule issue when a fully professional league has multiple huge sponsorship deals and packaged deals for travel.. one of CPLs major official sponsors is WESTJET....its common sense... use it sometime.

      They did last year, but they didn't earn it this year. If they want a bye next year they have to earn it with their results on the field. And besides, I hate the arrogance that teams shouldn't have to play lower level teams. It's killing the US Open Cup, I don't want it to kill the Canadian Championship. If other leagues felt the same way, Liga MX would have stopped going to CONCACAF Champions League/Cup years ago and would never have agreed to the Leagues Cup. Where would MLS and TFC be in that scenario?

      I would love Canadian soccer to get to the level where teams can compete with the 3 MLS teams, but we are not there. I do agree that it's good from the Canadian soccer perspective. From the TFC perspective I think it's a waste of resources.

    I really do not see how they are going to grow soccer with playing pros vs semi pros (joes). Fans not even interested, I really do hope Canada soccer does one thing of intelligence as this Pro soccer competition is getting worse year by year. A lot could be done better. A playoff between the provincial leagues, a competition (knockout, 3 rounds) between the CPL teams, a regular season that is interesting and actually competitive (28 games and 3 eliminated is not competitive). It is a shame when the players are doing there best but Canada Soccer is just dropping the ball everywhere.

    • @kentmartin9289
      @kentmartin9289 Před 22 dny +4

      I guess you didn't see that Simcoe County had 2000 fans in the away section for this game? This game may very well have grown their fan base (I believe their home field has a 1000 spectator capacity). And just last year the semi pro team from BC (TSS Rovers) beat a pro team (Valour) and Ontario's semi pro team (Vaughan Azzuri) lost only 2-0 to CF Montreal. We shouldn't be so scared of an occasional 5-0 game. Just this week Chelsea lost 5-0 to Arsenal in the English Premier League. Is that a big problem for English soccer?
      In my opinion it's a great competition. Cavalry and Vancouver had a good game on Tuesday. Now Cavalry is matched up against the Whitecaps in the quarter finals with a chance to eliminate the Whitecaps again (they did so in 2019). York and Forge will face each other for a chance to play CF Montreal. Forge has taken Montreal to penalties in the past, and York narrowly lost to Montreal in 2019. Will either of them be able to pull off an upset this season? This is way more compelling than when it was a 3, 4 or 5 team tournament.

      If they bring 2,000 then TFC fans could give a crap about the game. Beating valour is no big thing. I live in Winnipeg that team is a joke. It is boring football, competitions are boring and FIFA is just making tournaments for money not to improve the sport. I only care for Champions league and premier soccer (England). World cup is watered down trash now. Only interesting in the final 16.

      @@pictureofmyjunk2279 ah I see. You said in your first comment "I really do not see how they are going to grow soccer..." and it looks like that is true. Soccer grows from soccer fans supporting their local teams. If people like you in Winnipeg supported Valour better (rather than just English or European teams) then they could get the money needed to make the team better. Perhaps invest in better scouting, maybe an academy to train young players, etc. But if you only want to watch the top 1% of pro soccer, then don't expect anything outside that top 1% to grow.

Anyone who claims that the World Cup is boring and only shows interest in two soccer competitions cannot be considered a true football follower. It was particularly remarkable that players from the opposing team brought their fans to Toronto to support their local team, dreaming of defeating a big-name opponent.

      @@sowaveysuyat The comment I made has absolutely nothing to do with the technical ability of the keeper (which I'm sure he has) and everything to do with tactical side.
      To reiterate, he should have either come to claim the cross or simply dropped and set himself. If the attacker puts in the corner, you clap your hands and move on. His feet are all wrong in most of the goals conceded. He's never set properly and you can't expect to make a stop if you're constantly in motion. Even being out of position but set is better than in position and not set.
