Rise of the Ronin marries a cool historical setting, Team Ninja’s mastery of tough-but-fair combat, and some smart RPG design to make a game that is immediately compelling, and even more fun with friends. It’s full of cool little touches, whether it’s throwing something at an enemy with the grappling rope or dropping from your glider onto your horse. Unfortunately, it’s also a game full of map clutter, bloated systems, and a truly absurd amount of junk loot, and the time I spent clearing out everything that didn’t spark joy and dealing with all these non-essential systems made me pine for a leaner, meaner, more focused game. Rise of the Ronin is excellent when it has the courage to be itself and lean into its challenging, rewarding fighting; too often, however, it feels stuck in indecision, torn between what it wants to be and what it feels it’s expected to be, and not even the best samurai can overcome that.

Same thing happened with Starfield. Everyone gets mad at the reviews and then they play it and realise it’s exceptionally mediocre.

@@luckythakur1832Starfield got 6/10 scores and even some 5/10, and it took 15+ years to make. It’s also a 1st party game for Microsoft. Rise of the Ronin is made by Team Ninja, Sony doesn’t own them. Either way you spin it, Starfield became a meme for how bad it was after Microsoft was hyping it like the next big thing. It failed just like Redfall, which got 4/10 scores.

Remember the Auto Sell & Auto Dismantle options to get rid of loot below a certain rarity, it then just becomes a simple currency generator

This is the real answer; Same thing with strangers of paradise, you just set a simple cutoff, and the game takes care of the loot problem for you.
Team ninja always been bad with flooding your inventory. Nioh had the same problem.

Developers need to learn that not every game needs to be an open world / Ubisoft style game; they can probably save a lot of budget that way and make the main story more compelling.
The flooding of game maps with reused assets is a way to earn gaming time on the title in a cheap and quickly done way though.
@@julienbrethiot6537 But not doing any of that in the first places negates the need for it to be done cheaply, since it’s not being done at all? Hence why linear / smaller games that don’t have huge maps are typically cheaper to produce than this one likely was.
@@dajuiceman8870 If you include co-op and want people to stay invested in your game, better make it big. And nowadays, no one spends 70$ on game worth 10 hours of gameplay. So that's why concepts are stretched out to such extremities.

@@dajuiceman8870 My answer isn't my mindset but a fact regarding modern gaming. The fact that you can't tell the difference tells quite a lot.
People have been complaining about the gear system in TN games since Nioh 1, so over the years TN have added a robust list of QoL changes in the option menus. Everything from advanced filtering and sorting, mass disassemble/sell and auto loot pick up filters are added to the game. So for anyone who’s familiar with modern team ninja games, the loot overload is a non-issue.
I've found that all the people complaining don't know why TN gives you tons of loot in the first place. Anyway all this is falling on deaf ears. The correct take is to hate on TN because everyone else is doing it
Looks like my type of game to be honest. Fun combat , mindless loot and violence . Something to enjoy for a while . Not every game is Elden ring
Team Ninja will keep doing what they do best which is Samurai/warrior/Shinobi theme like games

What's so bad about it? They give lots of inventory/storage plus lots of gear means more salvage materials and money.

This isn’t an issue at all. I’ve been playing the game a lot and don’t have any loot issues. If anything is great. All excess goes to some storage and auto fills when you rest. Excess gear can just be quick selected and sold/turned into materials.

DD2 just has the items from the deluxe edition as DLC, you can only buy each item once as well. Every item can be obtained in game.

Are Ninja games similar to Fromsoftware games?I'm a huge fan of Sekiro,DS Bb and Elden Ring.Should give it a try?
Its sort of a mix between souls-like games and Ghost of Tsushima with some stealth, lots of weapons, a hanglider, grappling hook, and even a gun.
Also, you can change the difficulty

Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise of Ronin came out exactly as expected. Both great fun for the right audience but neither are a masterpiece.

Besides, the fact that Rise of Ronin is an open world and historical rendition of Nioh with a touch of Assassin's Creed doesn't detract from its identity. There's plenty of distinguishing factors based on the gameplay and plot.
Most reviewers say it's not on Nioh level, it's easier and more accessible. Which is ok but combat is pretty much the point of this game.
my humble opinion, check its rating within actual gaming protasl based on players who bought it (i.e now on PS5 you can see players who bought any game rating it, this will be a much more real type / accurate feedback and rating rather than depending on one guys opinion at IGN.
👆 This. I've seen 7s but also a few 8s and 9s. Some people will love it some people won't. Just because a reviewer gives it a 7 doesnt mean it's not for you.
You should also be using open critic to get all critic reviews in one place

They could have set up the reveal for the glider much better than they did. They put no effort into how they gave us this fun tool it should have been tied to a cool character that we had to defeat in order to get it. Or just locked it behind the camera mission when Igashichi asked us to jump!
Definitely gonna be getting this one, I'm a huge fan of the "Way of the samurai" games and this one really reminds me of it, it's as if that's where they got the idea (Just an opinion)

i've played Nioh 1, Nioh 2, and Wo Long and i've never had a problem with the loot. you can just like not pick up the loot or just sell the very weak loot.

@@jimmythegamer2231 lol no it doesn't. Runs fine for me smooth 60fps 90 percent of the time. Just some occasional drops nothing a patch can't fix. Dd2 on the other hand dips to 20 fps and it's also not a graphical marvel

I'm confused why Sony backed this. They have a smaurai game. They have other Soulslikes. Is this the same team that made Nioh or was that the Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty team? Nioh 1 and 2 were Playstation exclusive so maybe this came as a package deal in order for Sony to get Nioh 3 exclusive or something

If anyone is in doubt because of the lackluster reviews...just buy it already. Yes the game is flawed. The flaws can be fixed in future updates. I'm several hours in and I'm enjoying the game.

The best part of the game that's underrated is the soundtrack. Reminds me of how Elder Scrolls games make you feel when wondering.
There is no way in hell that you guys gave AC Mirage an 8 but Rise of the Ronin a 7.... Mirage had a much worse open world, story, character design and most importantly: much worse gameplay.
Maybe make a rurouni kenshin game.

Knew this game was a 7 from miles away. Every damn game has a batman like plane system now.
Looks sick. Disappointed with the exhausting map design and generic side content, but team ninja combat paired with more traditional RPG mechanics is an easy sell for me. Doesn’t have to be game of the year material
The Loot Filter & Auto-Sell feature obliterates the 2nd half of this review. You can tailor it to your desires as to which rarities to keep or sell on pickup.
So just another Team Ninja game: great combat, but drowning in useless loot, apathy-inducing systems and generic environments. I'll play it when it inevitably comes to PS Plus
Ninja Gaiden wasn't like that. Every piece of loot you get is critical to the game.
