- @emeraldguitars is taking carbon fiber guitar construction and design to the next level, and really pushing the artform and engineering into the future. In this video, I'm checking out their brand new "Solace" Weissenborn-Style Lap Guitar, but they have a HUGE range of acoustic and electric guitars as well. Check out their website, but make sure you have an hour or so, because you'll definitely get lost in the guitar-a-holic rabbit hole!

(Paraphrased): “there’s Room for those longer bass waves to develop. It’s hard to explain, but you can feel it…” -JJ
Everything about this Video is Freaking Amazing… JJ is One Hell of a Salesperson, dude speaks with his fingers!! 👍🤘🏼👊
Alistair made me a custum 30in through 28 in fan fret 6 string acoustic electric baritone jumbo cutaway that's absolutely Epic... I've been through many Hoops over different setup approaches and settled on a brass nut and saddle that has been working really well... Going to make a demo soon... thanks for being you and inspiring all of us Justin! Great job Alistair
Big WOW! Would love to hear this guitar on your next album!
This laptop steel sounds as relaxing as the waves slapping on the bottom of a fiberglass boat on a fall morning.
Just a beautiful piece of art...the fact that it plays beautifully under Justin's guidance is just frosting!
dude a shovel plays beautiful under justin's guidance. i'm sure you could hand him a giraffe and he'd play that beautiful too lol.
Great job Justin after hearing you play the Solace in the different keys I put in my order for one. Thanks and I hope Emerald takes care good of you.
Technology may seem like it hasn't done alot of good for society sometimes but, this seems to be the greatest time to be a guitar player.
I agree, it is generally a great time to be a musician
uh, no...Wake up..Music sucks and so does the technology..Everything produced today, the music, the guitars, the tech, etc; is produced to sound like an era gone by..This guys playing is nothing like the people before him..Where's the creativity in 2021?.. ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.
yeah everyone hates those 60's guitars lol.
Was there ever a bad time to be guitar player
Did not expect the emotional rush at 9:30. Actual tears 🤯
That is a beauty!! Cheers to the Irish!! Sounds awesome!
5:11 what's name song dude ?
Darned thing sounds like it's got a reverb tank on it, even just mic'ed acoustically! Wow. I already knew I wanted one, but man, you make it SING!
You're a great player man.
I just love your Minor tunings being played on this Lap Pedal , just seems so right . Cheers from NZ .
Fantastic guitar!!! Awesome playing and awesome video Justin & Nikki!!
🔥🎸🎶🤘
I have owned all of the competition carbon fiber... And came to the conclusion that emeralds are superior... and that's what I've stuck with... Allister's hey has only gotten better as time has gone by in terms of precision and finish... and courageous design innovation
I've got an Emerald Amicus. It's gorgeous visually and sonically.
@@timontide6404 absolutely agreed... with just a slightly heavier string set I've had very nice results in tuning it down a minor 3rd from D to B.. which is very complimentary for baritone guitar thinking.. also the decrease in string tension allows you to play more like a guitar... Really is very much like a mandolin in D.. and a good idea to keep a few extra Nines in the bag.., tuned either way they sound amazing Amplified... There's nothing to compare to
THAT is one awesome sounding guitar Thanks for sharing Justin!!
Two of my favorite subjects: Emerald Guitars and Justin Johnson. ☘💚
AWESOME Justin. That was amazing to listen to.
Im thinking BB King would Almost trade Lucille for one of these. Almost. I do love the sound it produces. Reaches thru the depths and tickles the soul.
Maybe. But I don't think so. BB King the very best blues man. EVER!
9:27 - 11:45 just gave me goosebumps!
Check out Justin's Smoke and Mirrors album then. It's what got me hooked to his music.
@@tdude379 I purchased the bootleg series a few weeks ago. I was thinking about getting the Smoke and Mirrors set. I believe you've talked me into it.
@@tdude379 , there's also an album by Martin Simpson titled Smoke and Mirrors, not one of his best perhaps IMHO, but he is an incredible fingerpicker and slide player; check out his all-slide-guitar concert for the Museum of Making Music, on CZcams, and his Masterclass introduction on YT as well. He is also a fine Celtic-traditional picker, and an occasional songwriter as well; "Never Any Good", written about his errant father, is as good as Dylan or Joni, and not as dark as you might expect.
Brought me to tears
Man love the how crisp this guitar sounds, very sweet.
Somewhere in Ireland, the lads are grinning.
Wow.... this is crazy Justin... look at that guitar... beautiful and so really really amazing..
Hey, Justin...
What a sound...
✌🙏🍄
Thanks...
Really brilliant Justin. Love the video and love that guitar!
Thank you for the outstanding demo. You are really getting better every time I hear you
Love those inlays! That top is so cool and the playing is amazing! 🤘🎸
Do you fancy one for Christmas, Dexter?!
@@manofmanythingsandotherstu4773 yeah! 🤘🎸
awesome playing, once again, swampy vibes are really well phrased.. out of this world well done!
Great work again. Thanks, j.
Your playing is always amazing no matter what instrument you pick up. This is a beautiful instrument but I have never been a fan of piezo pickups. Thay have a flat sound for lack of a better way to describe it. When you put the mike on it the magic started to happen. Much more rounded tone. But then, we all have our preferences. It would be interesting if this company could come up with a mike system similar to what Taylor does. But again, you always amaze with your playing!
I honestly don't know why piezos still exist. These days you can get miniature condenser mics mounted directly to the guitar and that amplifies the sound much more naturally so you actually hear the acoustic tone through the amp/PA.
I AGREE WHOLE HEARTEDLY 🎸👍😎
I agree. The piezo pickups sounded thin and "nasal" to me. I much preferred the miked sound, although I know that can cause feeback problems in a live setting.
Cool!
You rock, Justin.🙌
I was right it is a cracking piece of work especially the way you bring it’s voice out Justin! I must admit the unplugged bit give me a incredibly hit right in the spine! As for the rest I don’t need to say anything… you’re a very special person that’s just got a very beautiful gift for touching the inside of a human you know that place where we actually exist inside the shell we are in, look out I’m babbling,! Much love DrJohnson have a beautiful day keep you and Nikki safe and healthy brother 😘👍🥃🥃✌️
That's a beautiful instrument. Very impressive ❤ sounds great plugged in and out. Very cool
I don't even play guitar, but I'm excited about whatever this means for the guitar world!...
Hell yeah!
That’s the spirit!
It means that the guy who plays the instrument is killing it!
I mean: this guitar seems great, but honestly, you could basically through a piece of wood with strings to this guy, and he would still sound fantastic!
Nothing really
@@avielkharrat5788 check out Justin playing a shovel. Seriously... a shovel. Amazing stuff
Had to watch it again, Another Great Video from The Master,Love Them Sounds, and 1 of my 5 Favorite Channels!
Blues On, Bro!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍😎😎😁😁😁
Great demo! I've got an Emerald X-20 and, body and sound wise, it's like a mix between a concert size and a dreadnought. Acoustically, it will keep up with traditional wood guitars, no problem and it's a thing of beauty. This Weissenborn seems to be in the same category. Other than good tone, playability, and looks, one of the main features I like about the Emerald carbon fiber is its strength and resistance to climate changes. I bought it after I had a bridge pop off of my 78 Yairi due to very high heat and humidity when I was visiting my wife's family in the tropics. I also live in the northern US, and we get everything, but the Emerald doesn't care: cold, hot, dry, humid, they don't affect the guitar (apart from the strings, of course). Anyway, Emeralds are expensive, but they are a really good instrument and worth it IMO. My other acoustic is a Martin, and I won't part with it, but I would never subject it to the climate extremes that the Emerald just shrugs off.
Your playing made it even better Justin!
It won't quit ringing. Great job wonderful lapper.
there is a great video by Emerald about the making of the Solace, which follows each step of construction of the prototype by Alistair during lockdown.
Ive watched so many of your videos and Personally i think thats the best sounding guitar you have! If not it atleast resonates with me the best…also “swampy” was the absolute best description of the sound you could have used, i closed my eyes and felt like i was on a boat blasting through the bayou while the sun was coming up.
Unbelievable ! That is one beautiful guitar. Lovely tone. Played by the slide maestro JJ 🙂
Maaaaan, this guitar is crazy!! Actually, I guess it's the first time I see one in CF! 😱
Alastair hay is like no other Builder... I've owned composite Acoustics and rain songs carbon fiber guitars... Emerald is in a class of its own
@@ExileTheKnightsOfMaltaNow I'm used to seeing CF in high-end sportcars, planes, etc., but to see it being used in musical instruments as well...that's awesome! And the sound really hits different too :D
Wow Man that is Incredible!!!! and Beautiful as well ,sounds amazing unplugged too ,they have a Gem here and ofcourse 1 of the best players to Date to show what it can do!!! many props on this design hit the nail on the head !!!!
Love your tone and technique. What a beautiful guitar. Love it.
Hey, this is so freaking cool. And is such a bunch of fun looking. Thanks for the great playing. Bests, m.m.
Wow!!! Amazing instrument!
Beautiful sound!
Justin you have amazing talent, you never disappoint.
Interesting video and instrument. Your playing amazing as always.
What a unique guitar, so many great guitar makers out there!!! Love seeing a lot of them here.. THANKS JJ😁
I know exactly what you mean with those vibrations, I love putting my head on the guitar while playing... It will waste my back but you can feel the sound through your entire skull, thats just awesome xD
I enjoy your vids- thanks much amigo
wow. amazing guitar and fantastical playing!
Alistair's work has just gotten a completely unique level. When I bought my hybrid 14 string from Emerald a few years ago, he was only one of a few that would take on building a custom 14 string acoustic with piezo and humbuckers. I love my Emerald so much and I can't even describe that justin coaxed out of this beauty.
great piece of kit, sounds great and its Irish. thanks for sharing that one Justin
OMG that sound!! Sooo beautiful. 💖
Last week I saw an carbon fiber tuba. Super sound and super light.
Dude your skills are amazing, keep it up
Wonderful lap guitar I have an old Dobro I like it but the sound of this one is amazing
Love the Emerald’s … Have 3 with a 4th on order.
Dam great sound
Love your playing
Man that a big finger slide you got there. I’m still playing on a 1979 dobro 60D. I’ll never be able to afford anything like this working at the mill and raising a family. It’s pretty though. Thanks for showing it.
Sounds Beautiful !
Superb craftsmanship, indeed. I have a Journey carbon fiber guitar, and it has unusually good bass, and maybe a bit reduced treble. That makes it just fine for fingerstyle blues.
Hell yes. That is all
This is a monster thing for a slide 🐉!
Hard to explain? The clarity of your playing says it all.
Be epic to see you and Billy strings!
Wow! Gorgeous guitar! I bought a Klos carbon fiber travel guitar .. detachable neck and all. I travel the Southwest and car temps will kill a wood guitar. I went with Klos because they were the only carbon fiber traveler guitar with a full neck at the time. I am amazed at the resonance of the carbon fiber .. pluck low E and it just sits and hum's .. amazing for such a small body. Going to have to get one of your slides.
That thing is a work of art and sounds amazing.
sounds awesome!!
That piezo system sounds much better than I thought they would.
Impressive 😎👍
Wow,That is One Beautiful Guitar,Dont Think I've seen One Like That Before,Well It Sounds Amazing..And Your Playing It Is Just as Amazing..Be Safe and Keep Rockin🤘🖤🙏✌
Sounds great!
Awesome sound, got a Tony Joe White feel to it, really cool, I can just hear his gravelly voice over the top.
SOLD… now just to be allowed to travel to Ireland from southwest England to try one… was just starting think about a custom build from Germany.. may have to rethink. Great tones
Fly into belfast and it’s only an hour and a half drive … or drive and ferry!
@@DizzyRecIrl cool checked out your channel chief nice tunes. Maybe you can put me up when I get there… you sound local… take it you have got parking for a ferry.. it will be driven like I stoke it.. because I will have👍
actually dude when you showed that guitar case i was NOT thinking of wessenborn at all!!
i was thinking Washburn
Very cool and sounds great
Deep, Rich, Resonance, Pure tones - Add Majic JJ. Smokin' !! 🔥🌟⚡
the sound is very wonderful 👏
Pure Sound ! Sounds like My RainSong . Thank You
Thanks for the acoustic demo. I obv use steel bars so I'dve liked to see that also..thanks
I wuz lookin for a word to describe this tone and I kept coming back to spooky. That’s almost right… I really dig it! Nice playin too! 👍
Amazing is this video JJ you playing with you fingers👊🤘🏼 a beautiful piece of art
I wish you a nice evening LG Elisabeth.
Must feel like heaven playing on this work of art JJ? Magnificant sound anyway.
Cool and awesome guitar 😍 Justin ..🤔... if i hear this sound you play , i must direct think of Ry Cooder slide guitar swampy music 😍 Greetings from the Dutch Lowlands NL 😷
That is incredibly gorgeous!
@Justin - Cool guitar. Very cool playing.
How much of the mic audio are we hearing when you are playing through the amp?
One of the coolest things about graphite/carbon fiber, if they are manufactured with consistency, every guitar will sound as good as the first one, or sound as good as the last one. That 'soul' of the instrument can be reproduced, which amazes me.
Just awesome!
A new word for MY lexicon... "SCULPTURAL". I love it!
J.J is Definitely a Master!!
That Man can play most
Any String Instrument.
And Play It Well
Always a pleasure to
Watch him Work
I confess my first thought was "I know he's got big hands, but how the heck is Justin going to be able to play a neck that thick?"...ahem. Nice guitar, nice sound, nice playing.
Special piece for sliding.
I guess that neck is too thick for normal hand style.
Yeah, the Weissenborn shape is for lap slide playing only, but they have some killer guitar designs as well.
Please cover some Red Dead Redemption 2 songs like : That's the way it is , Cruel World , Mountain Hymn
Yeah the Best choices
So expensive guitar, love that
Just like the Irish accent, their guitars sound beautiful too!
Checking this out through my jbl charge 4,,, holly crap man supper cool, wicked sound, so rich!! Crisp also!
Killer brother!👍👍
Way COOL 😎🔥🎸🥃🥃
I felt like Justin was staring at me in the thumbnail saying "You want this guitar".
Justin , your content is amazing. At 62, I can’t be totin around that SG, I just look really stupid.I am so inspired to take my playing in a new direction thanks partly to you. While I can’t afford some of those guitars you’re playing, the music is inspiring!
Please don't tell Jimmy that
Justin, это шикарно! Я в восторге от вашего мастерства!
