As you know, the forks should have been leveled out, and better supervision by the person on foot. Sometimes its hard for the skidsteer operator to recognize what misalignment the forks are. Hand language, and better direction was necessary here. I do the same, mistakes happen, we all learn from it. Last week I transplanted a tree that was installed three years prior on the same site. I removed a 30 inch ball that was 20 inches deep. Got it out of the hole all by hand, and moved w/ a tree dolly. Not impossible at all. Dig around it generously, deep spade around the bottom of the ball.
Tip the tree to one side of the hole, back fill it w/ soil, then tip it onto the packed backfilled soil. then do the opposite side. Back fill that side,, and eventually that back and forth motion with pabcked soil will get the bottom of the root ball to the top level of the hole. By that time the entire hole is filled with packed soil. Lay the tree on it's side, and roll it onto the grass, upright it, and transport it with a hand dolly. My largest tree completed like this was a 16 foot beech, with a 36 inch ball, 30 inches deep. Same back/forth motion with packed soil, and it was to the top of the existing ground, and rolled to the grass, picked up w/ a dolly, and transplanted. We also remove large boulders same way as long as it fits a dolly, or put on a tarp, and pulled along the grass w/ 2 or three people to its resting place. Grunt, just grunt.Sure beats having to haul a shidsteer from the yard and back again. Good job on the maple. Those roots are so prolific and keeps all the soil intact.

***** Thanks, will try to move it. The alternative is to cut it down but it would be a shame

@@Projectoftheday An 8 foot oak tree is a baby.Absolutely no reason to cut it down. Dig the tree as I described above. The roots aren't that deep. Go for it.

Are you still going to sell the bobcat?

  • @lostinmyspace4910

Why is it people have trees that need to be moved, and they say, I don't own, or know how to operate a bobcat? It's like a person that wants his house painted, and says I don't know how to use a sprayer. Roll it out, baby, roll it out.

If someone has a friend like me they can always talk him into helping, and they don't have to run the Bobcat.
