They prefer snails, worms, bugs, and even baby snakes. I called my closest wildlife and they said keeping them in captivity could shorten their lives by 50 years. Every day, I go out and greet and feed mine. She knows where to come. I always have fresh worms for her.

I would actually recommend you the Russian tortoise it stays relatively small 10 to 11 inches but the females get way bigger than males so if you want a smaller one you should get a male Russian tortoise
As long as you don’t put anything he can climb on along the edge of the pool your tortoise should be perfectly fine, the top of the pool also has a rounded edge so it’s nothing the tortoise can actually grab onto

I plan on building a wooden fence in a good spot in my backyard or even having him roam the yard giving him as much freedom possible, he’s to small right now so I can’t have him roaming around a raccoon or even possible a hungry cat can snatch him off until he gets huge he will remain in a enclosure where I’m able to easily move him from outside to inside
He is a sulcuta tortoise, these tortoises can range $100-$300 depending on your area, I was lucky enough to live next to a breeder so I got Franklin for an even $100. Just make sure before you purchase you have plenty of room and space, sulcuta tortoise are the 3rd largest tortoise in the world 🌎 😮

Maybe some but these tortoises are herbivores so wouldn’t eat them!

Call your state's wild life first. Some of these turtles are protected and you could get fined for having them as pets.

Definitely not’ there’s hardly any bad smell with proper care. Regular baths and monthly soil changes, you’ll have one HAPPY tortoise
