Turbo Video: Jörg Sprave makes a slingshot

  • Natural forks have their own appeal. You never know what is underneath the bark, and the strength of the wood is amazing.
    This video shows how Jörg Sprave turns a Blackthorn fork into a nice slingshot, just with knife, rasp and file.
    In order to make it less boring, the time intensive parts of the video are massively accelerated, so even though no part has been left out, the entire procedure takes abozut 9 minutes from raw fork to the well finished glossy slingshot, ready with home made bands.
    A "The Slingshot Channel" production!

    I coat the painted slingshot with polyurethane varnish, for a glass like surface.

    @kumquatsta Took me an afternoon, but the video did delay it. Kind of cumbersome to always work within the camera view.

    It is a big roll for sure, but you don't need much for a band. My bands cost me less than two Euros a pop.

  • @Slingshotchannel
    @Slingshotchannel  Před 12 lety

    @SuperGPAG For beginners, yes. The fork should be wide and a bit higher. Advanced shooters don't need any fork width, as the flip down method takes care of that.

    This guy is like the Bob Ross of slingshots ... I remember watching him alot back in the day because of all the crazy sling experiments he used to do ... properly awesome and random

    @AESamuel The wood was freshly cut. I microwave it for 90 secs at 600 watts, then let it cool for about 30 minutes. I repeat the process 3 or 4 times, until there is no more steam in the oven after the microwaving.

    Just as a general comment: I love these sorts of time-lapse movies of people making things. There's just something inherently relaxing yet entrancing about them.

    I made one a number of years ago by putting tungsten carbide steel fork that I welded together into a groove I cut into a a hazel bush and allowed wood to grow around it and envelope it, as such, till it was completely encased inside the wood. It took three years to completely grow and seal itself inside but it was perfect. I then soaked it in linseed oil for six months and then put it in the warmer oven of an Aga for six months till the wood was like steel. I sanded and polished it till it was the nicest bit of wood that has ever been seen. Then a year or so later I had it wrapped up and in my case when I took a flight from London to Frankfurt and, along with a 40 grand Cartier watch, it was not there when I picked up my bags at the baggage clain. Seems a lot if things go missing through baggage claim.

  • @Slingshotchannel
    @Slingshotchannel  Před 13 lety

    @MrToshTogo I use standard ink for fountain pens. After all, ink is made to dye plant fibre material! As you can see in the video, I use small rubber bands and wrap them around the bands and fork arms.
    The pouch should be as small as possible, it is dead weight. A big pouch often weighs more than the ammo. Bad for performance.

    Good Trollwork, haha! So, I learned to use slingshot when I was a little boy, and I keep this passion until now! Here in Brasil the costume is use the rubber tube (originally used to medical purpouses), "sorinho" is the common name here, and the desing of the fork is different. I found Thera Band recently, and I'll buy to test! Your channel is very usefull,I hope you continue showing us your "toys"!

    back to biblical times to present day finding a true man's weapon with elegance far from the sling shots of yester year one must see the art and skill it takes to put a meal on the table

    It is down to the parent of the child to teach them right from wrong, not Joerg, he is just doing something he loves and showing us how he does it. He took the precurtion to wear saftey goggles and if a "kid" goes "shooting around" without goggles it is the parents fault for not teaching him that his actions have consequences.
