There is a ton of poor content being published on KDP. It's just a matter of time before Amazon cracks down on all this junk publishing. I agree with you 100%. People need to put forth genuine effort, research, hire an editor, pay for ads...

Yes, taking your publishing business seriously is the only way to success. Realize that most best-selling authors had very slow beginnings.
Great video and genuinely good advice. I've been working with self published authors for over 10 years, to help them launch and promote their books and this is all very great advice. Particularly the part about patience at launch. I've had clients that I get on bestseller lists and they are selling a few hundred books in the first week but they feel it's not enough with the amount of time and money invested so they want to give it up before it's hardly started. It can take a year of solid effort to start seeing the meaningful returns. I've worked with authors that have revisited a book they published years ago and hasn't sold a single copy in over a year and we turned it around and got good sales every day, proving they just gave up too early and wasted years of potential sales.
Awesome video, Dane! The one change I plan to make is to focus more on income-producing activities and reduce the time spent on things that feel like I'm doing something productive but, in the end, don't contribute to generating more income.

Great video Dane, this is the classic mistake that most newbies make where they treat KDP like a magical black box that just dumps money into your bank account if you just publish something. They often forget that a real human being is on the other side of the website that is actually buying and reading your book with their own hard earned money

@@DaneMcBeth to each his own. I turn up my earbuds to hear the vocals in your intro, then get blasted. For me, the music should be a complement to the vocals. Unless your content is about music, the music should never detract from the spoken material.
