      If it's big enough to be a dwarf-PLANET you might as well just label it a planet. Going back and forth on whether we see Pluto as a planet or not is just confusing.

    We shouldn’t exclude Pluto from being a planet because some people are scared of having more planets. If there’s more planets in our solar system, so be it!
    The arguments supporting Pluto’s planet status were really good, calling the gravitational criterion “stupid” is very accurate and eloquent, saying Pluto is primarily rocky is correct (something that most people get wrong by calling it an “iceball”), mentioning that Jupiter and the Sun orbit off the barycenter is a good analogy to Pluto and Charon, the Solarballs clips were cute, and referencing actual planetary scientists like Phil Metzger is very very good! A lot of videos discussing this topic don’t cite from credible sources, but showing members from the New Horizons team (who got the Pluto data in the first place) is a very strong source of information to support this video!
    It definitely looks like you did your research, Pluto is absolutely a planet! Well done! 💫

      I do think he presented good points, but Pluto's "moon" has too much effect on Pluto, and Pluto is part of the Kyper Belt. It hasn't cleared the area around it of asteroids, which all of the actual planets have.

    • @Jellyman1129
      @Jellyman1129 Před měsícem

      @@squish2108 The Earth’s moon has quite a significant effect on Earth. Should we demote Earth from being a planet? None of the planets have cleared their orbits. There are asteroids in the orbit of every planet.

    • @squish2108
      @squish2108 Před měsícem

      @Jellyman1129 That's fair, but Charon is about half the size of Pluto. Earth isn't affected by our moon even a fraction as much as Pluto is by its moon. As for asteroids, what I mean is that most of the asteroids around Pluto don't orbit it. Pluto isn't that big

    • @Jellyman1129
      @Jellyman1129 Před měsícem

      @@squish2108 True, but that just means Pluto and Charon are a double planet system. That doesn’t exclude them from being planets. There are multiple giant planets that are in a double planet system, does that exclude them from being planets?
      None of the asteroids in the Kuiper Belt are orbiting Pluto, because none of the asteroids *anywhere* in the Solar System are orbiting *any* of the planets. Asteroids orbit the Sun and share their orbits with the planets (unless they get captured by a planet).

    Gotta love how in trying to make the solar system less confusing, they just made it more confusing than ever. Claiming that Pluto isn’t a planet anymore, in my opinion, is one of the biggest mistakes the science community has ever made.

    I always believed that pluto was a planet- An atmosphere, 100% spherical, it even has one large natural satellite ,chiron . When they classified pluto as a dwarf planet, i gave it no mind. I sincerely dont understand why scientists cant conceive of our sloar system as having more than 9 planets!

      @@squish2108 let me ask you a question- why must our solar system be made up with only 9 planets? Those other dwarf planets including ceres the closest dwarf planet to us in the asteroid belt- are planets as well. Even Europe, Ganymede, Titan, etc. if they weren't orbiting jupiter & Saturn would be planets. Haven't you ever heard of textbook terminology before? Each and every textbook is subject to change to match the criteria when new scientific data comes to light. Who know? We may one day find out in our systems cosmic history that we once had 31 planets.

      It’s ironic that ASTRONOMERS became afraid of an ASTRONOMICAL number of planets. The truth is, using the geophysical planet definition, we have over 100 planets in our solar system. That’s super exciting and gives us so many fascinating places to explore! Most of the planets are dwarf planets like Pluto. It’s the gas giants like Jupiter and the terrestrial planets like Earth that are the exception rather than the rule. Who knew? 😁
