  • What a shame as she ran very good......and that's why I always check the compression and oil after running it for awhile just to be sure everything is good on the inside too. This engine did have cracked manifolds but no cracks on the outside of the block. Sometimes I'm lucky, sometimes not.

Here in Northern Europe block cracks are a way of life through freezing , running on raw water. GM, wether MC or Volvo , V6 or V8 they take no prisoners and often don't show until hot. Many a 'new owner' have found that to their cost.

odds are there is a crack in the bottom of the intake too where the coolant flows below the carb, usually don't have one without the other

I would have thought this motor to be a roller motor was surprised to see it as a flat lifter

I know it’s been nine months but did you sell the exhaust manifold.

Just like the Ford 351 Clevelands, cracking in the valley due to freezing.

You built an engine but you don’t know what kind of oil it requires. Somehow I don’t think it’s going to matter much.

I know the major cause of cracked blocks is abuse and neglect by the owners , but I can't help but wonder . Do you see more Mercruisers with cracked blocks or Volvo Pentas with cracked blocks ?

@@jsolo7576 sry that is not fun. I drill on each side of all the cracks, grind along them pretty deep with an aggressive Dremel bit Making sure it's free of oil and then coat it. I guess prep is a big part or I'm lucky. Lol I'm doing another 4.3 now and hopefully it works out. Thanks for the reply

Sorry, this is my wife's channel........with the battery connected, just run a hot wire to the positive side of the coil, you could then use a screw driver to by-pass the solenoid.
