    I would like to understand how much of this awesomeness depends on the camera and how much is down to your skills in post production. A lot of other K3 footage sucks, whereas this has the right balance of sharpness and film look. Also, how did you stabilise the footage so well ?

    • @ssimple4190
      @ssimple4190  Před měsícem

      The camera had faults but as do all k3’s to an extent, mine were not hugely problematic though, so the camera preformed Nicely.
      I really just take my time when shooting and editing, and I reject anything I feel doesn’t look right or doesn’t fit into a project.
      Which is hard to do at times especially when it’s so expensive and you only have limited usable footage left to replace something that looks bad in an edit.
      Hence why I and most don’t put out much very often haha
      Also Occasionally I use the built in stabiliser in Final Cut, but it can look pretty bad if you use it too often or it’s too strong. But that does help especially with gate jitter

    I’m curious, how do you decide which film to use? Like what do you use to measure the exposure rating?

    • @ssimple4190
      @ssimple4190  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Appreciate those words mate !
      I genuinely load film up depending on the conditions outside, if it’s raining and I want to shoot I’ll load up something like 200-500T,
      Or beach stuff I’ll decide on either 50-250D
      Just depends on how the weather is looking the week ahead before I shoot something.
      Also I only use an iPhone light meter app, and when I’m unsure based on those readings I’ll lean towards over exposure to be safe 👍🏼

    Amazing editing and composition. And those colors!
    It's incredible that a $500 dollar camera can create such quality of picture. I'd say I personally like the look of this than the images produced by modern 35mm digital Alexas. Film is unbeatable.
    I'm in the process of finding a 16mm cam for my travel channel. I ride in cars and soon will be doing it in motorcycles. I use digital cameras and color grade the footage to look like 16-35mm film, but it's not the same. I wish these cameras and film were cheaper.

      I hate to say it but some of it is luck. And I had a lot of bad luck before I ended up with the camera I used for this…
      Unless you can find a seller who can show you footage they have shot through it, it can be a gamble with the k3.
      But if you can find one that is solid and works well. Hold onto it, they can be great !

  • @samuelguce
    @samuelguce Před 6 měsíci +1

    Such a beautiful video, perfectly capturing the Aus vibe - I'm wondering if you had to do much troubleshooting with the K3?
    There's so many varied filming results on YT (yours being among the most lovely), I wonder if the individual camera units are different in sharpness, gate jitter etc..

    • @samuelguce
      @samuelguce Před 6 měsíci +1

      Also wondering what shutter speed you are using for 24 fps? I read that the shutter angle of the K3 is 150 degrees making the 180 degree double frame rate shutter rule not work.. is this right?

    • @ssimple4190
      @ssimple4190  Před měsícem

      I had a few different k3 cameras and each had their own personality. Some i had a lot of stressful issues with.
      But the last one I had which was used on this project preformed the most reliably and was the most consistent. And I can’t remember the exact shutter angle but it wasn’t off enough to notice or that I had any issues with.
      Hope that helps!
      And thank you for the positive feedback❤️

    Hi - stunning work my friend. If you don’t mind my asking - what lens are you using? I recently purchase a K3 Ultra 16 with bayonet mount which may not have been wise? I’m hearing not many cine lenses are made for bayonet mount. I just wasn’t crazy about the M42 mount because I don’t intend to use any still photography/Pentax lenses with this camera.

      I had a few different variations of this camera and had the best results from the original 4:3 bayonet version I used for this film.
      Lens selection is limited but typically I like running a good zoom and a wide lens for it gives me less choices to focus on.
      Personally I loved the bayonet camera I had.

    Hi SSimple, I like the 8/16/33 mm look. But is there cheap alternative? Getting the footage developed and digitized is hardly affordable if you want to shoot a full length analog film (and dont want to use pseudo-analog digital filter.)

    • @ssimple4190
      @ssimple4190  Před měsícem

      Unfortunately not, it’s definitely worth trying first before you buy a camera if you can,
      Personally I love this way of shooting, but some don’t, especially due to the cost.
      Filters can look accurate, but the look isn’t what’s important, the method and idea behind it is more important and worth the cost (for me at least)
      Good luck !

      @@ssimple4190 amazing. Do you know why your footage looks so much better than most? Color grading? Or just overexposing it the perfect amount? I want to do everything I can to replicate this quality lol

    Now contrast this with Australia shot on a BMD camera. It has lost its warmth, and its "feel". czcams.com/video/u0_hzJc5I-E/video.htmlsi=GvU97qRE3KteZ5xs

      There is no such thing as a color or black and white film camera. It is the film stock that determines whether it is in color or black and white.
