‘Chaconne' is one of a suite of dances set to music from Gluck's opera 'Orphee et Euridice' This footage is taken from PBS Gala of Stars 1983 (Upgraded sound)
thank you so much for posting - i read suzanne farrell’s memoir years ago but had to take her at her word that she was talented. i see now why she was a balanchine muse, she dances like flowing water and has such long limbs!!
Darrell’s dancing is sublime. Her dancing face was always so cold, though. I wish I could have seen her live; I’m sure it must have had so much more lightness.
i saw Suzanne Farrell once live in London - i was struck by her coltish quality of movement - i hadn't seen her on film at that point so i didn't know what to expect.

@@JohnRaymondHall Hey sorry I must have been trying to talk into the idiotic phone...I see my comment was ridiculous and I have corrected it. Yes it's Lavery. Knew him...strange stuff...
Glorious!

My God is she FABULOUS!
Watching two wonderful dancers in Balanchine's evocation of the 18th century - great way to start the day!

Sean was one of my favorites. @@JohnRaymondHall Sean was one of my favorites. His career got cut short by illness and he died too soon.

@@JohnRaymondHall Y femeninas preferentemente.

As much as we do not like Peter Martins, he was incomparable in this
i think this is Sean Lavery, no?
