- The On Cloudsurfer definitely lives past the hype. This is an On Running shoe that I keep finding myself returning to because I love the new updates and (hopefully) the new direction that this shoe portends. The On Cloudsurfer is easily the best shoe that On Running has ever made.

I think what ON are doing in the track and field space is inspiring at the moment, we’ve got a few events over here than ON are sponsoring and it’s being that “feel good” vibe back into the running scene…. I haven’t tried any of their shoes yet but if what you’re saying is right and they can build upon the success of this one and the monster, then they could become a bit of a “hero” brand within the running space with a real die hard following
Have you tried them yet, honest opinions if so?
@@Gio_grease not tried the surfer no, but I’m enjoying the monster 2 right now!
Looking forward to Boston 12 and Adios 8!
Love the CloudSurfer 7. Soft with some road feel. After 70 miles they still feel like they did on the first run. Taking out the speed board was the best decision On has made.
Love love love mine. I have 2 pairs of creek with neon orange. Feels great and magically make my feet look 2-3 sizes smaller.
Couldn't agree more, I have around 120 miles in my pair and they are my go to shoe for any runs that aren't speed work, even though they can pick the pace up quite a bit. Superbly comfortable and lighter than most competitors, excellent value for money considering how versatile they are. I also wouldn't use them for reps, intervals or threshold but I have loads of different shoes for those sort of workouts. On's best shoe yet by a mile!
So you haven't tried Novablast 3 then 😂
@@markphilpottultra yep, didn’t like the fit
Your comment is almost exactly what I just posted. I also have the NovaBlast 3 but they’re very different. I would choose the NB3 for quicker paces and LR’s with speedwork as well. I’ve been wanting one shoe with a very forgiving, soft ride that’s still nimble and doesn’t sap energy like so many of the other candidates. This one fills the bill nicely.
speaking as an asics fan, cloudsurfer does looks better than nv3 when it is brand new
Always a great video and a great review!
Thanks for watching!
Yes Kofuzi, we need that Boston 12 review!
Adidas sent me Adios 8 to review. If I like it, I'll pick up the Boston
A tad late to the party, but keen on trying this one out being an ON fan. These shoes aren’t as common here in New Zealand but I have a few pairs of ON shoes in my rotation that I have bought through their online store. This one is certainly adding interest and going by your review this seems like a positive model to add. Cheers from NZ
I've got 80mi on mine and still love them. Pretty sure they're my favorite shoe of the year so far! Just keep reaching for them on easy days.
Are they comfortable
Also is it good for daily use
500 miles in them. (easy runs, recovery runs, long runs, hills, trails) Wide feet and they felt really comfortable. Loved running in them but did become less stable and have this weird squeak to them every time I use them now. Loved these especially for long runs. Shoes are still holding on but definitely need to find new shoes by now.
Hello Sir, I have plantar fasciitis issue because low arch foot, I'm wondering which one is better for me, this one or Asics nimbus25? I've tried to run in Hoka one one for a while (felt so comfortable), but I feel a little insufficient support recently. Any suggest?thx
Thank you for another great review video I have been waiting for. Did I miss it or you forgot the part about the shoes that On Cloudsurfer pairs well with and the competition?
it's in the initial video (my thoughts haven't changed from initial review to now, so I didn't repeat it). link in description.
@@kofuzi I misunderstood. I thought maybe you had some new thoughts. Thanks
For me ASICS provides a better shoe for training, race and recovery days. But we all have different needs and goals.
Between the Nimbus 25 and Superblast I have got pretty much everything covered.
I just bought these yesterday to replace my retired Nimbus25. Other than that Nimbus, I’ve eschewed high-stack soft shoes so there’s been a perennial gap for a recovery/very forgiving slow LR shoe in my rotation. However, the Nimbus & all the usual suspects I’ve tried are either too chonky/bulky, heavy, high or clumsy for my taste and small body mass. This one is nimble enough to pick up the pace; though I wouldn’t choose it specifically for speedwork, the rest of my rotation all satisfy that use case. I’m so glad to hear they’ll continue to perform after 100 miles!
Happy Birthday Martha
thanks for the update, Martha!
I use mine as a casual sneaker and I LOVE them 👌
Don't yours squeaks when walk?
Mixed bag for me. They feel glorious but after 100 miles I've had to stop wearing them as they are causing calf and Achilles issues. There just isn't enough stability in them, particularly after wearing them in. Have transitioned to the Nimbus 25 and whilst they don't feel as plush the calf issues have gone away as it's a better structured shoe.
I love my On Cloudsurfer 7s. They are super smooth and the ride is very comfy. I wouldn't use them for speed work either but as a daily trainer and easy days trainer they're great.
Agree 💯 as you’ll see from my comment. Just bought them yesterday.
These areee the best shoes ever. I own Clove and Nike xzoom invincible 3 and on cloud are my absolute favorites.
Same
With how minimal the clouds are on the Cloudboom Echo 3’s, I doubt it’ll compress much, or even feel underfoot. Like Ko mentioned, not all models need to have Clouds in respect to the company’s name.
I really love On's shoe style and choice of colors. They really make stylish shoes. But you know what I like about their style? The Clouds, so I don't know if I'll still like it without them. 😅
Though I'm not an elite runner but I like my running shoes to look good even on casual wear. I wear running shoes for active days or at work. 😁
I have the Cloudsurfer too - ich love them - feels great on Foot
glad to hear it!
I am not a runner, but I am a walker I walk many, many miles a day and I got this to help feet and ankle pain as I have a rod and no ankle in one foot. I personally love these shoes I got mint green colored and the softness is incredible kind of feels better than my more v 4s by NB. I have a couple other On shoes that I got rid of, I literally threw them in the trash they were so hard, like walking on brick shoes. I almost didn't buy this shoe But I had heard many good things about it so I pulled the trigger on this pair and glad I did. I also ordered the Nike zoom fly 5s in orange and I will be sending the Nike's back they are terrible they pop when I walk in them and the ZoomX is almost nonexistent in this shoe.
the zoom fly has become a bit of a disappointment for me. it started out so well
@@kofuzi If it was a solid zoomx midsole I think I would have kept them I took them back yesterday and I think I am going to order the Nike Invincible run 3s in the red, white, and blue! I was getting a popping sound from mine when I walked, did you get this too? If it wasn't for that I was going to keep them.
Love the cloudsurfer, but mine started to squeak, which sadly makes me gravitate towards other shoes
Hello, i run in a track that gets muddy sometimes, will the cloudsurfer work ? thanks
Slight nitpick when you were going through ONs lineup: The ROGER Spin is actually from their casual lineup of tennis shoes! It’s not meant to be used to play tennis. The ROGER Pro, their (sole) performance tennis shoe, only has the Speedboard and doesn’t use Cloudtec!
And on that note, I agree with slowly ushering out the CloudTec technology for their performance line. On the tennis side, having the CloudTec would be a stability nightmare with the quick, lateral cuts that comes with the sport.
I totally recognize that the cloudless shoes i mentioned aren’t running shoes. But they are, most relevantly, On shoes.
The fact that some of the Federer shoes are without clouds and some are made to look like they don’t have clouds (even though they have them) reaffirms the ease with which On could pivot away from that tech.
Curious about sizing ? I can wear a 12 in most ( but at times I feel I have a little to much room ) so I’ve been wearing a 11.5 in my Nike 2090, and my Air Max 2021 se - curious anyone’s thoughts on this. Could I get by with the 11.5 ? I have a skinny, narrow foot lol 😂
With the long runs, are you finding that the foam starts to bottom out at all on the run?
My last run was 2 hours easy, and I enjoyed them the entire way. Was kind of wishing I had time for an even longer run
My main issue when I tried On shoes is that while the midsole is cushiony and soft, the "speedboard" to which it is attached gives a quite harsh/rigid feel underfoot, removing some of the comfort of that midsole. That might have changed in newer models though as it's been a while since I tried an On shoe.
Removing the speedboard was something I’ve wanted them to do from the first time I ran in a Cloud Flyer back in 2019
I love mine so much and I was going to buy another pair just for a change of color but the right shoe has a really loud squeaking sound!! 😩
“A super bubble-butt, monstrous like experience” -Kofuzi c. 2023
Put it on a shirt
😂😂😂
I have just run about a 100 miles, in the ON Cloud Monster, and they are now my favourite shoes, i just dont wanna run in anything else. Will give the surfers a go
i tried this as im looking for a casual+daily trainer shoe, i found the rocker is too aggressive till its awkward to stand on it. however, running on it is indeed soft that is on par with Invincible. And looks a lot better!
If I have slight overpronation of my feet but somehow normal arches, these shoes are still good for travel and long walks?
yes, but as with any question regarding overpronation or underpronation, it depends on the amount of over/under pronation
Hi, do these have a deep enough heel pocket to accommodate custom orthotics? Thank you.
I don’t know
I've recently picked up a pair... so smooth and comfy ride! Highly recommended! (First pair of ON's) They've replaced my Hoka's!
glad they're working for you!
Looks like you might get your wish from 7:21 in the Cloudeclipse! I hope you get a pair to review before too long
I’ve been running in them for a couple weeks
I went and got some from the flagship store here in London on Sunday, first time buying ON shoes and was excited to try them out. Weird experience in the store, sales staff tried to warn me off buying them because of 'squeaking problems' they said a lot of customers have returned them because they make loud squeaking noises. They kept trying to make me buy the Eclipse!...Not what you want to hear when you finally decide to give this brand a try. I got them anyway I felt committed so lets see if I run into the same problems.
Eclipse is also very good (review coming soon). Not sure it will have a different life cycle than the Cloudsurfer, as they utilize similar new technologies for On. Perhaps there was a tweak to the production between the release of the surfer and the eclipse
I tried both Cloudmonster and cloudstratus and returned them both because they killed my left arch due to the speedboard firmness. Now I don't know if I will wait for these Cloudsurfer to be back in stock in my country or just take an Ultraboost 22. Usage for long walks and my left foot is sensitive between the heel and arch. What do you think?
I typically don’t recommend ultraboost ever
@@kofuzi Thank you, so Cloudsurfer it is :)
Did you notice any squeeky sounds it create when you run on it? I have 2 of this and both has that that squeeky sounds after 2 months of use.
mine do not squeak. my UPS guy reports to me that his squeak
@@kofuzi Hi, I saw in another comment that you don't clean your shoes. My Cloudsurfers didn't use to squeak, until I washed them after trekking with them through London for a week. I think they may have put some layer of sorts in each pod to prevent the squeaking, but that it gets removed the moment it gets washed. Any chance you can try cleaning yours and see if they start squeaking then?
P.S. going to buy the Cloud Eclipse soon because of your recent review, love your videos
Are they good for long walks for normal arches but slightly overpronating feet?
yes, but as with any question regarding overpronation or underpronation, it depends on the amount of over/under pronation
On Clouds without a cloud… is like an Asics Gel Nimbus without any gel. Probably not gonna happen… but nice idea!
I’ve been telling ASICS to get rid of gel for years
My forefeet are really wide, do you think this just might be a good shoe for that? They look pretty wide in the toebox
I don’t know if these are available in a wide, but if you’re feet are really wide, I would look for shoes available in wide options
Do you recommend using running insoles with these or using running insoles at all?
I generally don’t use them because I need to be able to evaluate the shoes themselves. I don’t think people generally need them, but I think if people want them and enjoy them, that is great
Hey Mike, you mention easy day shoe and recovery day shoe. For that is the same thing, but not for you i guess. What is the difference?
sometimes, they can be the same shoe. some examples of daily trainers versus recovery shoes would be:
novablast 3 and nimbus 25
Rebel v3 and More v4
@@kofuzi super. So when you say easy day shoe you mean daily trainer? For me that's not the same hence confusion.
E.g my easy day and recovery is invincible 2. Daily trailer is Devite nitro 2.
Hi Kofuzi, thank you for another great video, have been following your channel for quite a while. I have one question, while I usually use Adios Pro 3 for most running, I could not use this shoe for Gym and daily walk about.
I am currently using Gel Nimbus 24 for this purpose (gym, treadmill and daily walk about) but it's due for replacement, will you recommend this shoe for this purpose ? I am also consider Gel Nimbus 25 and Puma ForeverRun Nitro.
Those would be good options
For shoes at this price I expect to get 1000+km, just as I've gotten from so many great shoes including the Novablast, Glycerin, Nimbus, Invincible, Clifton and especially the wonderfully versatile and long-wearing Triumph 20!!! I admit that I seem to be far less taxing on my shoes than most runners, but I just don't trust this cloud-tech to hold up in the real long term ... of course I could be totally mistaken and actually hope I am!!!
Are the holes in the Helion foam small stone magnets? I had problems with small stones with two previous pairs of ON shoes
Nope. I’ve never had one stuck in the clouds. It’s basically a meme comment for any time I review an On shoe, at this point
@@kofuzi sorry, I wasn't trying to troll or be smart, just genuinely interested. I like the On brand but have been frustrated by the stone retention in my previous pairs
I can also say that these didn’t gather any stones when I ran in them yesterday partly on dirt with gravel. I also used the Cloudmonster all last summer and never had that issue with that one either. They modified the outsole/midsole design even on the latter enough to remedy that.
Cloudsurfer 쿠션을 cloudsurfer trail 의 쿠션과 같게 해준다면 더 매력있는 슈즈가 될듯함. Cloudsurfer trail은 안정성이 부족하지만 쿠션하나는 정말 좋아요!
If the fit wasn’t so weird I’d probably still be running in them. They were way too tight over the top of my foot
I hear what you’re saying about not having the Cloudtec units, but…can they really be a Swiss shoe without all the holes?
😏
Sorry…I know that was cheesy.
😏
nicely done
Loved this shoe ! Tried it on at a Fleet Feet demo and did a very fast 6 miles in them ..
nice
I'm probably in the minority here, but I really love the cushioned tongue and collar.
Great shoe but as a taller/heavier runner (90kg) maybe another option would be more suitable. I was only able to get around 500kms from this shoe, which when looking at the price dose not produce the best price to km ratio.
for me that's a pretty standard amount of running to get out of a daily trainer. but I recognize that price:km ratio people are generally looking for about 1,000km out of their shoes.
(I will also concede that, as a solo shoe tester, it has been a few years since I have a run a shoe to end of life.)
Was the shoe washed, wiped down, or just shown as is for the video?
I don’t clean my shoes
This is my favorite running shoes. I never ran in On before this shoe🎉
Glad you’re enjoying it!
Can we do marathon training ? I mean daily trainer like 18-20 miles long run
I think it would depend on whether your very long runs are easy or if there are portions at marathon effort.
assuming 20 miles easy: I'd find the cloudsurfer to be enjoyable, although I've heard from some that it is too mushy to run in comfortably for that long.
assuming 20 miles with some miles easy and some miles at marathon effort: I'd pick a more aggressive shoe to help me get through the faster miles - perhaps my race day shoe
The Cloudsurfer is one of the best looking running shoes of all time, imo.
What hoodie are you wearing in this?
Janji
Would these be ok for everyday walking around ?
yes
the surfer 7 is really meant for heel strikers to rear mid foot strikers.
ok
I wanted to like them but they felt sloppy and mushy to me. I liked the rocker though. If they just lowered the stack height.
You might prefer On’s legacy offerings
do it get dirt easily on those bee holes???
See for yourself. I’ve run 100 miles in mine
Whats your thoughts on the cloudmonster
it's referenced in the first 10 seconds of the video.
here's the link to my 100 mile review
czcams.com/video/EmADN80-uWc/video.html
I have a feeling it's the hoka bondi for long distance
Depends on what kind of long run and what your preferences are
need help guys. should I go with this shoe or the novablast 3?
Both great choices. I think the novablast is more versatile
Did a marathon in them last Sunday in 30C / 86F. My only issue with them is, that the upper is incredibly warm in those temperatures. Which was really noticeable at times. But besides that, they're a great, cloudy bed, to survive long distances.
Sweat sponge 🧽
But not nearly as warm an upper as the Nimbus25 (which I’m replacing with the Cloudsurfer) or Cumulus25 (which I considered)
I am not enjoying running in this shoe, i feel that my energy being negate by the foam, my leg is actually more tired while I'm running in this shoe
You would probably like the old way On makes their shoes
I have a phobia of holes and this is the only On Cloud shoe that doesn’t trigger me.
I know what you mean
Owh man... A lot of vids need to catch up 😅...
Love my pair but man are they squeaky and annoying on any indoor hard surface.
does anyone have squeaky issue on these?
Yeah
Im not someone who needs or uses stability shoes or ever really notices the stability of a certain shoe but imo this shoe is extremely unstable
Interesting!! For me the drop is just way too noticeable, I don't like the way it puts me forward onto the balls of my feet, which is exactly what many people do like ... is that part of the unstable feeling for you??
Yo should review Asics noosa
I do not have any current plans to review that shoe
On fall to bits after a very short mileage. Just look at reviews and save your money 👍
But this review exists tho
Anything to stop these squeeking? Other than the bin
WD40, probably
Just got this shoe for $80 at REI
nice
Yo, what’s going on!!!
yo Luis!
Man, ON sucked the big one when they first came out!
I am still sticking to my promise not to spend more than a $100 for running shoes.. I have currently the Adidas SL, Pegs39 and Trail 4’s, and the Streakfly. That’s my rotation. All under $100.
I'm with YOU!!!!! Most of my shoes I paid €60-€90, usually just searching for previous versions. AND I run happier in a shoe I know I got a good deal on!!!
Sadly I bought these when they FIRST came out back in 2016....Sadly I knew nothing about running shoes and these just weren't it for my feet, knees, calves, and mental stability 😂. Got injured 2 weeks in my training program
This version has nothing to do with former versions of the shoe. It’s a major departure for ON.
Surely they last longer than Hokas! I love them but they just degrade so fast for me.
Great looking shoes but apart from that total garbage, never lasted more the 300-400 km , the sole and heel cup eroding in the first 3-4 weeks on the 8-9 week mark the shoe it was completely “cooked” and I had the same experience with two generations of Claudestratus and cloud ace
I get you're frustrated. but you're bringing past experiences to a video that can be succinctly summed up as: this one is completely different
@@kofuzi That’s fair, I will at some point try the new platform, because I do really like the look and the fit on the shoe.
Some running shoes are just NOT suited to some runners feet. That's ON for me.
but have you tried this one?
just passed 150km with these and unfortunately I can't stand them anymore. way too soft and unstable. it feels like running with wet sponges tied to my feet. maybe I'm just running faster in them than intended.
Sorry to hear that you are too fast
@@kofuzi if "too fast" is anything under an 8 minute mile then I guess I'm going to speedy boy jail.
Nike sued Mike for 2 million dollars…
I think Nike would read the thumbnail text a bit more carefully before unleashing their legal department
Seriously? I purchased a pair of On Running Cloud X trainers and it was the most HARDEST, most UNCOMFORTABLE and PAINFUL trainers I've ever owned in my entire life. Just AWFUL. Like wearing cement blocks on your feet. And you feel like you're wearing some kind of Barbapapa clogs, because they're so huge and rounded in the front.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your prior shoe. perhaps maybe try this very different shoe?
or if not, can you let me know what shoes you've been enjoying lately so I can have that info as reference?
I had a bad experience with ON too, but I got the stratus back when the company was just coming out. I think they have changed the composition since then. I do remember them being heavier and harder than any other running shoe I have had before or since though.
How can i take his word on what he is saying he doesn't get paid to say and review them yet the company paid for them we all never met him nobody really knows him personally to credit his claims
you don't have to take my word for it. that's the whole point of a disclosure. I've let you know the provenance of the shoe. and with that information, you can give my opinion however much or little weight you believe it deserves. you may even disregard it entirely. I just ask that you apply the same analytical rigor to every other reviewer or outlet.
and people know me and have met me. if you want to come to any of my events and speak to me personally, please feel free to join the Kofuzi Run Club discord or the Kofuzi Run Club strava group (all free) for updated information on meetups. we just had one in Orlando for the marathon trials. we ran a speed session together. it was super fun. I made a video about it if you want to look at any of my recent videos.
Totally overpriced brand…
Can you tell me which comparable brands you’ve been enjoying instead? I’d love to have some comparison points
@@kofuzi Sure, Konfuzi:
1. Puma (a lot of “bang” for the buck $: Deviate Nitro)
2. ASICS (some reasonably priced models: Glideride, Novablast)
3. Skechers (good offers at outlets: GORun Ride)
4. I am interested in buying Decathlon: Kiprun KD900
These shoes are bullshit. Comfy yes. Durable…. Hell no. After 200 miles my wife’s are falling apart. It’s ridiculously poor quality for a fucking $165. Pegasus trail 4 gtx is still the best thing I’ve worn this year. 500 miles and still going strong! I’ve looped about 100 rounds of golf in them at a little over 8 miles a clip this year spread across two pair. i had really good luck with asics novablast sps but the foams squeak so bad on wet grass I can’t stand it. Same with Hoka. The new ASICS gel kayano ace golf is wide and waterproof and I can’t wait for mine to get here.
are we talking running miles here or golfing miles?
@@kofuzi for the on clouds it’s just jogging. Everything else I’m hoofing 50 lbs across a mountain 10 miles a trip 🥵
The stuff from On that's coming you are going to like @kofuzi Thr Echo 3 is a good one
I hope so
I’ve got 150 miles on mine and they still feel great. They are my official easy day shoe. Mine have developed an annoying squeaky sound but still a great shoe.
I have no squeaks in this one, but my Tracksmith Eliot Runner has a pretty significant squeak
I got the sqeaks for a while
