- This is Viggo's first film in which his scenes were not cut out.
Witness 1985
Starting
Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis
Plot:
A young Amish boy is sole witness to a murder; policeman John Book (harrison ford) goes into hiding in Amish country to protect him until the trial.
Viggo Plays Moses Hochleitner. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Director Peter stated that he was so impressed with openess and honesty of Viggo's face that he included him in as many shot as possible. Mortensen said that he had such a good experience working on the film that was when he decided to pursue acting as a career. This is a wonderful movie and certainly Harrison Ford's best role.
That time Indiana Jones helped Aragorn build a house
It was a barn, actually.
I can't take my eyes off Mortensen in the barn raising scene. He's so young! There's a scene where Ford is hammering away and Mortensen's feet with his plain black boots are in the scene and I keep looking at his boots and not at Harrison Ford. The film is over 30 years old.
Should have won Best Actor for Captain Fantastic at the 89th Academy Awards.
And should have won Best actor for Green Book.
Should have been nominated and won for The Return of the King.
I guess Viggo didn't know Harrison had been a carpenter before he switched to dramatics. : )
aw thanks for this. Viggo is an amazing person.
Viggo went on to play Tony Vallelonga in Green Book years later where he looked and acted totally different than in this movie. I barely recognized him but he got an Academy Award nomination.
The reason why Ford knew the names of the tools is because he used to work as a carpenter, even while he was getting his first minor acting roles.
True, he was a carpenter/stage worker at the filming of the first Star Wars movie in 1977. He jumped in and helped reading the script at rehearsals, ultimately ending up as Han Solo. Now that's some twist in The Force... ;)
Eventually he got chased by a big round boulder, almost got his heart ripped out by an Indian occultist, and jousted with Nazis on a sidecar motorbike.
A day may come when we raise a barn and break bread with The English... but it is not this day.
😂😂😂
wow, he looks almost exactly the same as he does now in his 40's! Immortally good looking...
He is like one of those people who already look like a vigouros 35 years old in their 20s, but they do it for about 30 years.
@@mrlensen8380 Its the tetosterone who gives in some cases very well defined facial features, same case with Christopher Lambert and Clancy Brown from Highlander.
Now you see less people like that, people have become more juvenile looking due to the neoteny and the world wide drop in tetosterone.
1:27 That farm scene always makes me emotional 😊
I saw this movie for the first time today and a recognized him instantly :')
Yep, Viggo made a convincing Amish fella. His hair-do helped.
He sure looks rustical
It's almost a shame the Amish people will never see this movie.
Hi Aragorn, I'm Han
well done! this was so much fun to see!! :D
Re: the comment about Ford by Mortensen - Ford was a carpenter before he was an actor - he built the kitchen in a friend of mine's home.
I remember thinking when I saw Witness that Viggo was a hottie - he's the kind of guy you just can't take your eyes off of. Whew...
The legend was born
that man has not aged in 25 years
Viggo Mortensen was 27 years old when the movie was released
back when this movie came out. viggo was just another forgotten one shot character actor. who knew he would turn into aragorn 16 years later.
Han Solo and Aragorn build a farm for the residents of Middle-Earth in a galaxy far far away.
viggo as amish - I love this film. harrison ford is great and so are all the others!!!
I love this movie. Its the only film I know of that gives the amish an honest shake.
Great clips, I cant seem to find one with just Alexander Godunov on youtube, he was also great in this movie.
He went from dancing to acting seamlessly and was a natural in this movie. His early death was so tragic.
Dudes, do you have full movie of this one? I am searching in the internet but I cannot find. I've watched this once in cable channel and now I want to see this again.
Han Solo meets Aragorn
@enigmaticallyso in fact he was a master carpenter! he was hired to build new cabinets for George Lucas, which is how they met, and eventually got the role in American Graffiti
luv the arrow effect, pointing out the bleeding obvious tee hee hee.
ps. Viggo has definately got a thing about snakes :-)
viggo probably said "aragorn is better than han solo" when they shook hands
Hahaha
wow there is alexander gudonov, he was an amazing ballet dancer.
his videos are here in youtube. everyone should watch them.
Ok, 👍🏼
great movie and beautiful soundtrack
Wow! I actually remember watching this when I was younger...before I knew who either character was! Soo funny.
Tis a fine pool, but is no barn,
@EmilTwo
I'm living in the Palatinate so there's some history. Amish came originally from the Mennonites, they still live here in several townships.
00:32 damn. he's a good looking fella
Yes siree Bob you ain’t kidding. Check out his other movies- A history of violence and Eastern Promises.
0:35 Gandalfs first appearance
i agree with you it was Harrison Fords best film and he has made a lot of good ones
@EmilTwo There are many sub dialects of German. Pennsylvania Dutch is derived from Palatinate German, which is the dialect of the Rhine region of Germany. Also the Amish not only came from Switzerland but also this region of Germany. after the groups arrived in the United States the two dialects (palatinate german and swiss german) merged into what we know today as Pennsylvania Dutch. my family came to the US in the 1760s from germany and settled in York and Lancaster county among the Amish.
He was Aragorn
@EmilTwo He is right and me too, kind of...
The history of the Amish church began with a schism in Switzerland within a group of Swiss and Alsatian Anabaptists in 1693 led by Jakob Ammann. Those who followed Ammann became known as Amish. These followers were originally from three main places: the German-speaking parts of Switzerland, Alsace (now part of France), and the Palatinate of Germany.
least you could do is select a Viggo thumbnail
@peacecanhappen27 They speak Pennsylvania Dutch, that's right, and you can hear this very similar in Germany in the Palatinate because that's the area where the Amish came from.
VAMOS CICLON CARAJO!!!!!!!
@Lucy9596 Oh! Thank you for telling me that! We have about "The Amish Lifestyle" in our school and i think it is a really exciting topic, and i didn't knew that! :-). (Yes, i know what Wikipeida is, but let's face it - i'll just end up copy-pasting the text or right something completly similar) ! I'm from Denmark so sorry if there is some "spelling-errors".
@CameMyTurn they speak "pennsylvanian dutch". you can compaire it to a mix of german and englisch.
@Lucy9596 Our teacher told us that the Amish people originally came from Switzerland? But yeah they're talking Pennsylvania Dutch.
what language do they speak ? and .. what is Amish ..?
KingPin is a lot different than i remember
@CameMyTurn they speak Pennsylvania Dutch, which is a form of german. it originally came from the dialect they speak in the Rhine region of germany. the Amish were followers of Jakob Ammann, a leader in the Mennonite church who broke away from them, emphasizing total isolation. they have very strict rules regarding contact with outsiders, who might 'contaminate' their beliefs. they are NOT a cult, but a very devout group who wish simply to be left alone. google them, quite interesting!
the aspect ratio is all wrong - it makes everybody look thin...
Hochleitner du bischt da Beschte!
Me encantan películas de amish y menonitas
@Julie00002 aha .. thank you !
that soundtrack is sad:(
@clineshaunt Wow. I'm surprised. when I saw that guy, 00:36 he really looked like Christopher Lambert.
I LIKE THE PART WHEN THEY SHARED A GLASS OF LEMONADE THEY DIDN'T SHOW THAT PART
@KillSwitch2, because he's not Amish. If you'll notice, he replies "Yes, sir." to them. What they're implying is "Hey, you were working on this, too?". The Amish call all Americans "English" because that's what the original American colonists were. The Amish are German.
i ddn't know this..... the first time i watched him was in lord of the rings
That is not Vigo. It is Alexander Godunov. He died quite young. You might remember him from Die Hard.
You're looking at the wrong character, smarty. Look at the guy on the left at 0:31, THAT is Viggo.
this film had a very weak criminal plot but a great Kelly Mc Gillis given a wonderful representation of an impossible love the sense of tenderness of Rachel Lapp it is poignant
Danny Glover one of the bad ass cops before Lethal Weapon too
Kelly después se comió a top gun
Why did the little boy throw a clock out the window?
He wanted to see time fly.
7beers I hate you
cool username
I’ve never heard about this movie. It seems to be a movie about the Amish though.
I guess his Danish origin might have helped him with the Pennsylvania Dutch language
The blond haired gui is a russian.
If this was Die Hard, Alexander Godunov aka Karl would have beat the shit out of the guy in the yellow hat for putiing ice cream on his face.
Why do they say "English too" "English too!" at 1:00. What does that even mean in this movie? All the Amish in this film call John "the Englishman"?
Then he joined the Navy Seals
Kelly McGillis was so hot in this movie.
he's versatile..ever seen the road?
Not yet.
What's the fucking name of this movie?
the name of the movie is Witness.
+HardlineAthiest
The name of this fucking movie is fucking Witness.
The fucking name of this motherfucking movie is fucking witness
@cassiecatUCT hes already 52 years old
This is not his first movie!
Actually Harrison was a carpenter by trade b4 he became rich enough from the acting moolah.
what religious determined this movie?
@shawncutter If Amish men look like Viggo, I'll convert.
😂😂😂
The blond guy who had ice-cream smeared all over his face died in the mid 90s from alcoholism.
Choose life.
He is also shot by a police officer in front of the Nakamichi tower.....
cool they are talking in german^^
ya lo sabía :)
swooooon
@Lucy9596 Oh ,well then you know a bit about the history of the Amish people :-).
Are you a cheba la leem? Calitos way
This is a great film, regardless of whether wooden Viggo was in it or not
