  • For today's video of #pso2ngs, I take a look at the monetisation model that the game uses and assess whether I think it's worth playing if you want to play purely as a Free-to-Play (F2P) player. Hopefully this is useful for anyone considering NGS, as well as saving you some cash!

    I'm a f2p player and i've yet to find any content i'm not able to do as one. The paid options are more like quality of life stuff than anything. Being f2p doesnt hinder your progress in any way

      It's a very F2P friendly game honestly. Putting money in gives you some benefits but yeah, I agree that it's completely playable as F2P if you want to!

    New f2p progression account series when? Could even do a challenge run of some kind to make the f2p even more of a hindrance ❤

    Just want to verify/addon to stuff mentioned here.
    3:30 Yes, unless it was changed recently your listings do remain up, you just adjust the listing prices w/o shop access.
    5:43 The material storage is one of the most useful things I pick up when I play the game w/o premium. Generally the 90-day access is better to get overall I believe, but it being an automatic process whenever you get a material is great. As well as it functioning just the same as other storages and keeping your items in there that you've already stored when your access time runs up. Albeit I don't know just how easy it is to get enough star gems to maintain that as a completely new player since I did have quite a handful of SG just lying about from my time in base game.
    6:14 & 650 You also get additional benefits to EXP/Meseta/RDR while under quick food effects. MIssion pass tickets still cost 100 SG I believe.
    17:21 Sadly this is too true, there are the daily items that spawn that are solely for selling as well as the ARKS Records rewards and even the event shop with items sold for meseta, but it just isn't enough to compete.
    Also, not sure if you're on ship 2 or not, if you are I think that person in front of the shop counter was there for HOURS since when I hopped on I was met with the same thing . I had no idea that they even sold extra sub-palette's, who has bought these and for what exactly? Appreciate the delving into this topic more level-headed then some might have.

      Thanks for the clarification! I agree material storage is super useful, I just wish it wasn't a temporary thing. For full transparency, Sega currently provide me with Premium and material storage as part of the NGS Creator Program but before I joined it I found the cost of material storage quite expensive so I didn't tend to use it often. Considering how many different materials are in the game it is a huge help to have a dedicated storage for them though. I do try and be as honest as I can in these videos; any video regarding NGS is usually polarising to say the least and I want to give new players as best an overview as I can before they part with their money.
      Yes, I'm on ship 2 and the fat cat jumpscare was not expected

    The problem with the three day shop pass, is that you can't accumulate much to sell because of the storage situation. They force you to at minimum use stargems to purchase the material storage space.

      I feel like these practices keep the game from growing. This makes it feel like the developer is trying to nickel & dime their player base.

    • @SectionSkyly
      @SectionSkyly  Před 3 měsíci +3

      I do agree that the 3 day passes aren't enough for F2P players because you accumulate items so fast in your storage. I'm glad there is an option for F2P to sell items in player shops, but I think it does need to be improved.

      agree, looking back to BDO's market system, u have to pay more tax if u r not a premium user but listing item to sell is free, and it works very well. U want more profit? pay the premium, u fine with the f2p tax? that's ok. and the price of items does not increase crazily because of greedy premium users since many f2p players can restock them too.

    It sounds like you have to spend a lot just to enjoy the game. Think I'll stick to the PSOBB. I may try PSU since I never played it before.

    • @SectionSkyly
      @SectionSkyly  Před 3 měsíci +3

      You can still enjoy the game for free, but certain things (like buying outfits etc with meseta) will take longer for sure. PSOBB still holds up well though!

    i mean u can play the game that is already good for f2p, the monetization is not bad but could be much better, now is the game worth investing hundreds of hours has new player, no its not, its a interesting concept of a game but badly done, u will strugle alot cause u will be playing alone 90% of time yea this will become like a job to progress, sadly until u reach up to date content u will barely will play with players or start to have fun.

      Dext base seems to be the hotspot for making money at the minute! Agree that it's totally doable playing f2p.

    Been considering doing a f2p/ssf playthrough. Hearing mixed reviews. Would like more input on how reasonable that is.

    • @SectionSkyly
      @SectionSkyly  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Personally I think you can play NGS fine as a F2P player. The main issues are making money in player shops (as you're reliant on the free 3 day passes) and storage space. Lately sega have been giving out some 15 day storage tickets for materials though which helps a bit.

    If the microtransactions are a solution for an inconvenience, that the developers of the game purposely put in place so you have to pay money to make the game less inconvenient, then its a trash game. An example of this is limited bag space, quest skips, auto sort items, etc.

    • @SectionSkyly
      @SectionSkyly  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I will admit that the storage situation in NGS in particular does incentivise buying Premium or extra space, which is terrible. If the devs could make this more F2P friendly it'd be a much more accessible game.
      Unfortunately, microtransactions are so embedded in gaming as a whole that I don't see it ever changing. Almost every modern game feels like it's there to get as much money out of you as possible. This isn't an NGS problem specifically, it's endemic to the entire gaming industry.

    Yeah you can get to endgame ftp. It takes time but its not too bad.

    • @SectionSkyly
      @SectionSkyly  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I feel like it's definitely one of the more generous F2P games out there. Yes there are certain things I wish weren't paid items (like extra storage) but overall it isn't that bad.
