    I found a Voodoo 2 in an old PC I was gonna do a project on. Had no clue it was in there.

      @@MoreReneRebe IKR! I think I'm gonna do another retro build after I finish the one I'm working on ( my current 98 project I want to finish has a Pentium 4 and a Geforce 4600 ti in it) I'm gonna get another Voodoo 2 and make an sli system.

    have you tried putting the glide2x and glide3x files in the game directory?
    it seems to me you did not try much...

      I wasted over two hours of googling random nonsense and driver trial'n error. Though most time wasted on trying to patch Descent II for a direct Virge comparison. Also after trying the last 3dfx reference driver, windows would not allow me to install earlier drivers anymore. As I mentioned, Windows was such a low quality crap that it was exactly the time back in the day when I switched from this garage OS to Linux back in the day, ... so don't tell me I did not "try" installing enough drivers, ..! :-/

    ntm did you install any drivers for the OS? Intel drivers?

      what "Intel" drivers?

      More live w/ René Rebe Intel chipset drivers...

    • @MoreReneRebe
      @MoreReneRebe  Před 5 lety +1

      for what? this old chipsets are mostly transparent. And if any of those even exist for this old chipsets (what should those drivers even do? IDE bus master?) likely irrelevant to this. Besides in the 2nd video the voodoo worked on another board, with-out any additional drivers, so it might be either early PCI hiccup, or IDT WinChip 2 vs. the working AMD K6-2: czcams.com/video/O7eLcouYKBg/video.html

    Well what is irritating about your video, is the attitude. It’s pretty obvious you never put in any time to learn windows9x. Because all of the problems you are experiencing is caused by someone not understanding how drivers are installed in windows 9x, not understanding how games handled glide drivers. What versions to use. Etc. and instead of asking someone who knows you talk crap about Microsoft Windows and 3dfx. None of those are the issue here. Your lack of patience and willingness to learn the tricks of the operating system. I can guarantee that voodoo works just fine that it’s you that was the reason it did not work. You don’t know what you are doing. And refuse to ask or Learn. Really says a lot when you repeatedly blame a bad operating system that you never put the time In to learn... was it a bad os? Or are you a bad operator? I’d go with the latter

      what learning, I grew up with this shit, can you go away and troll other people? It is obviously that Windows was and is a pice of shit, and this vintage stuff just does not always work by itself. In the time I spend re-installing drivers I could have literarily finished writing low-level Voodoo example code from scratch, ..! Maybe learn programming before annoying people on YT.

    • @Treveliian
      @Treveliian Před 5 lety

      @@MoreReneRebe lol vintage stuff never works by itself. and the fact you think it should tells me you never spent any time using windows 9x.. maybe as a user, not in a manor of maintaining its functionality or even building a fresh system. Any of the facebook 3dfx groups could have gotten you working in a matter of 15 min... instead you spent 2 hours doing what.... stroking your ego. passing the buck off to a shit operating system.... Windows95/98 are what they are. we all are well aware of its short comings. none of which impacted your scenario... your ignorance drove that.

  • @Treveliian
    @Treveliian Před 5 lety

    I’m astonished by your poor attitude and lack of willingness to learn how it works. I own a version of every voodoo card made. They all work. Have some weird stuff but the fact you think the Intel chipset drivers are transparent really outlines your inexperience with working in a windows9x environment. And your attitude says a lot.... first off you need to try installing windows 95 or 98 the correct way. Drivers. System updates etc. then when you install the voodoo drivers you always copy the glide2x 3x and .ovl files into the game directory. Some even go as far as requiring the 3dfxogl file to be renamed and included in the game directory. Just because you don’t know how to do something does not mean the products are broken... your abilities are what’s broken.

    • @MoreReneRebe
      @MoreReneRebe  Před 5 lety +1

      what astonishes me is your attitude, and total lack of understanding that you speak here to a industry veteran coder, who can write low level (driver-less) code for cards like the 3dfx Voodoo in one afternoon. Maybe you should look into a mirror and start learning how electrons flow, and CPUs and chipsets actually work and stop harassing me here over your bloody chipset drivers: czcams.com/video/n509_wN02u8/video.html

      @@MoreReneRebe Chipset drivers are one part... and since you bailed on anything windows back in the 90s.. how do you expect to understand what is required to make it operate? So you can code... great... so can i. That wont help you with windows9x operating systems. And the number of things you did'nt even try as it pertains to a Fresh win9x install, or installing drivers for a 3Dfx card, or sound drivers, or ISA/PCI bus drivers Intel chipset drivers... yeah you tried nothing. then got an attitude with microsoft, windows, 3dfx, calling it a piss poor operating system.... you are the one with a piss poor attitude. you even stated you use lnx builds because it auto installs the drivers... like a noob.

    • @Treveliian
      @Treveliian Před 5 lety

      @@MoreReneRebe lol and your video is not using win9x.... you relied on an OS to install it for you.... go back to lnx...

    • @Treveliian
      @Treveliian Před 5 lety

      @@MoreReneRebe Your ability to code has nothing to do with running a voodoo2 in a windows9x environment. You arent writing the drivers for that card. All the voodoo cards require the GlideAPI.... and in windows 9x you need the glide.ovl, glide2x, and or glide3x files for games to utilize the api calls. but your coding prowess should already know that... yet in every "demo" you tried to run, not a single glide api file was included in the executable directory... this is basic knowledge when it comes to 3dfx cards... and in turn shows your lack of knowledge. I'm not commenting on your ability to code. that has no bearing on your issues in this video.

      @@Treveliian what do you mean with that, ..? "relied on an OS to install it"? This is Windows 95, guess why it is so crappy, non working, unstable, ... what is your problem now? Btw. Windows was (and mostly still is) a piss poor experience. No-one with a sane mind would argue with that :-/
