- Officially tested out 2 Nextel ic502 cellphones using the Direct Talk feature. By popular demand and request, we tested out the walkie talkie feature the newer Nextel phones came with. They did better than expected especially with all of the high rise buildings in the way.

Had the i730 when i was in 8th grade. The best days of my life with nextel and boost mobile.
Man I remember Nextel model phone days like yesterday. Once the T-mobile side kick and the google G1 came out, the word wanted touch screens. Technology has came a long way.

I just found 2 brand new i580's,,,next is finding 2 used sim cards..Direct Talk is more private than GMRS/MURS. Are you hearing anyone else?
It is very private actually. I recently saw a video on it. Best way to talk and no one can hear you.
I am all set up with 2 i580's & a i355. In the country,,my longest distance is 3.28 miles so far.
I have been curious for a while the range on direct talk. I need to pull my nextels out and test. Very good way to talk privately.
I get about a mile and a half with my i580's
@@stephengilstrapYeah I’ve been messing with mine last couple days. Looks about a mile, but that’s in an area with buildings. I think open line of sight probably a few miles.
Next I’m going to test the piggyback theory some have mentioned. Will need a third working phone to test first.
