That Tony Hawk kid has some potential
just wait till he hits his prime
@@glyndonsprofessionaldetail7429 yup
First time i saw this lil fella, i thought the exact same thing! He gonna be big one day!
He was robbed... 5x 900's and got 7th
Never heard of him
The fact that Tony is almost 60 years old and still killing it even after a recent major injury, is just pure 100% inspiration.
It's more than inspiration... it is GOAT stuff.
His son is way better than he ever was. But yeah, he's still okay
Riley is good but tony is a legend.
Antoine Evenson is the best
he's only 50 and a half
There is 41 years of age between Tony Hawk and Gui Khury!!!🤯
It’s beyond me how anyone with a pulse would not absolutely love skate vert. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Cos it's scary 😆
I like skateboard park better or snowboard pipe better..
Big air is the best
@@judderzm2252 Exactly lol! It doesnt get nearly the love as street and its suuuuper scary and dangerous.
I did both street & vert skating. Personally i felt like both are just awesome. It's the stokeness that gets to you each time. People supporting eachother and doing the most crazy stuff of the moment.
Something to live for.
What a beautiful sport. When you see competitors cheering each other up and celebrating skate... there is still hope in this world
The skate is folks
Just visit your local skatepark and your mind will be changed.
Tony Hawk says, 'Yeah dude bring it back!' to the 360 slide and roll. Think of the trick list Tony has in his head from having been to all those especially early contests. Massive encyclopedia.
I can't find the video but I'm sure he invented the trick over 30 years ago. Likewise with the Kickflip McTwist, Stalefish McTwist, alley oop-cab lipslide, ollie 360 nosegrind revert, and so on, tricks seen in best trick and the vert contest today. He didn't invent the heelflip 720, though ... :D
Encyclopedia Tonanica
Dude Gary doesn't even know what a McTwist is
Elliot! One of NYC's finest!! That Hawk guy though, 55 and still at it...insane.
Even though the heel cab 7 is awesome he's already done it multiple times.. It's kinda bunk he keeps getting gold for it.when gui and moto did totally new tricks
Agree
Elliot Sloan lacing it with Sir Hawk in the background... Epic!
Gui Khury is far more humble about his celebration this year. Just a quiet moment to celebrate, pumping his fist. And he’s FAR cleaner with his tricks now. He’s growing up, and I can’t wait to see how his career proceeds.
I love to live in a time where Tony Hawk still competes at X Games. Beautiful.
That nollie 900 was tough...fans have no idea how hard that really is
For adults and teenagers who are tall almost impossible. Danny Way explained it once. It was easier for him to do spins when he was a kid compared to being an adult.
Thank you for showing us these competitions - I love it!!!!
I really do wish NBDs and progression would get rewarded more in best trick contests. I remember Sandro Dias' 900 once lost to Danny Mayer's varial kickflip McTwist strictly based on the fact that nobody had ever done a varial flip McTwist before. It's like Mitchie landing the first ever 1260 in Big Air and getting silver for it. It just feels wrong
Just real quick, Mitchie got the best score for his 1260, that year the total Big Air score was the score of your trick over the flat+your QP trick -- Mitchie did a stock-standard 180 over the flat to give himself the best chance of hitting the 1260. Good for the fans, bad for Mitchie's chances of winning the event.
you're missing his point, since it was an NBD he should've won either way, it feels wrong otherwise@@krolik1157
Tony Hawk coming out of retirement to show the kids how it's done🎉
He never retired.
@@r0binIsntAmish1669 He retired from competition
Clay Kreimer just did a trick the commentators couldn't even name! Such pro commentary!
Thanks Gary
Backside ollie varial, aka backside shove it.
@@noah122804thank you for doing the job of the commentators 😁😆
how is a kickflip mctwist better than a nollie indy 900? People literally throw 540 kickflips in the middle of their runs. I don't skate vert, so I am asking out of genuine curiosity, I feel that I'm missing something. It seemed that Moto was going for the alley-oop version of that trick, and the first one he did was kind of the warm up, before going for the alley oop.
Yeah I'm also confused on that one!
Do you see a lot of grown skaters do 900s?! Nope because they will tell you it is almost impossible to do 900s once you are fully grown. Danny Way already spoke on it.
Because he didn't do a 540 kickflip. He did a Heelflip cab 720, or a "720 from fakie with a Heelflip". It's a much more technical trick, you're not just holding onto the board and praying you have to do the flip catch it and pull it back all whilst spinning. Also like people have said Danny way has spoken it's easier to spin higher rotations when you're younger.
@@thomaspickin9376 I'm talking about Moto's trick. The one that got silver.
@thomaspickin9376 Well, yeah, and there are many other things that are easier to do when you're a grown-up, like getting more air, for example. And some people find spinning frontside way easier, too. Tricks should be judged objectively, without taking into account how short, tall, old, or young the rider is.
Dude is starting to get liver spots and he's still shredding. GOAT
Would have been better if he didn't just come back from a broken femur.
The announcers did the guy after Tony so dirty that I don't even know his name. Even after the commercial break after his run they talked about Tony during the next guy's run hahaha Tony is such a legend haha.
Gary Rodgers is a moron, he is objectively bad at commentating.
uhm...Tony started last, so there is no next guy after him...shows your deficit in attention
This inspired me to watch the legendary 2005 vert... Absolute Insanity
I see X Games spared no expense when building that vert. "thud thud thud thud thud, ping"
Just watching this and I had no idea Tony Hawk was in.. that's so sick.
Elliot sloan giving me Bob burnquist vibes, absolutely incredible.
hah so i wasnt the only one wondering if thats bob at first xD
Awesome ❤⚡
is it policy or something to not show replays of any failed tricks? I've noticed it across all competitions this year. Can understand it if it's an injury they might not wanna show a replay, but why not otherwise? It's not as if watching them just walking away is any more interesting than a replay even if it's a bail
5:53 That was a really slick bail
Love Clay as the underdog, vert skills but street attitude!
In my opinion he should have won. Not a big fan of this fast spinning tricks like the winner.
is nollie 900 really a bronze trick
kickflip mctwist is a run trick
am i wrong tho
is it cause moto always goes way upside down?
correct me
No. That is the pure Kickflip McTwist, with a mute grab, invented by Tony Hawk in 1995. Probably one of the hardest tricks ever done. Most skaters does it with some kind of varial. Catching it mute after a full flip while spinning in the air is a bit harder, since very few have done it ... And also, you might be right with the upside down spin.
Very beautiful! And in front of the inventor.
a 900 whether nollie or regular is still a spin trick and you only see kids who aren't fully grown do it. Most adults have difficulties doing it Not because they cannot pull it off but it has something to do with the body. Danny Way explained it in one of his documentaries that it was easier for him to do all sorts of spin tricks when he was young and his body hasn't been fully developed.
@rikkidgermano9640 i get that but i feel like that brings up a debate. Should he be punished just for being young. What if there was just a really short skater. Say if hypothetically tall skaters get more air, should they not get better scores for doing a trick with more air than another one cause hes taller than the other guy
Figure skaters and gymnists are all wicked young cause of the same thing, they dontbget points taken off for being younger or smaller. Its something only done in skateboarding. No other sport punishes someone for having certain physical traits. My view. Its hard to say but in the end if someones out killing it doing something no else can touch...idk seems a bit not fair. I think every sakter should be equally judged. Becomes a subject of ageism. I know where your coming from but you have to admit that hardly any, if not no other sports discrimnate the same way.. idk (:
Guys he didn't do a kickflip Mctwist.
THE most important part of the X games.
motos air awareness is next level, he has cat like reflexes!
awesome contest!
why did they only show tony's rock and roll BEFORE the trick at the end, i really wanted another angle of that body varial!
I can only dream of still bein able to Madonna to switch crooks 180 out at age 55. Tony Hawk man...a Living Legend
So does 99% of people 😅 😊
so sick
what a final run! wow plus that earlier nollie 900
Can't wait to see these guys throw down in july in san diego at the 2023 xgames!
The kid gui khury is the new blood after bob burnquist
THE FACT THAT I SEE SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE COMMENTS WHO DONT KNOW TONY HAWK IS CRAZY !!!
1:05 Lady yelling Ganbatte ❤
I never understood why do they have a time session for best trick? Just let them try 7 times each time. They should know by NOW how long that it will all take.
stop underscoring massively risky tricks like that late shuv dude!!! clay put it down!!
Kinda surprised he didn’t even place that looks harder to land considering he’s basically anticipating where his board is gonna be
sad they do an xgames in japan with no inline vert. home of the Yasutoko Brothers and not a blade to be seen
Inline is rad. I was always a BMX rider, but had a couple of buddies who did inline and it was really cool to watch. Especially if someone can tear up a bowl on them and have that floaty style to it.
The 80’s are looking for their half pipe when you are done with it.
😂😂😂
Coolest thing bout hawk, he hadnt changed. Hes stayed true to who he is. Still rocking the birdhouse gear 💯
For this competition, maybe they should just give the ramp to each skater for 5 min and see what they can land, bails don't count against them.
Great idea.
then they'd get tired though, the time in between lets them recooperate
@@ewillathaflippa yeah but it must be hard to start and stop like that. At least give em like 1 minute
It's great how it is. It will only take forever with each skater having 5 mins.
A shame they couldn't get this in 4K
that trick tony hawk pulled out was sick af
This jusg shows you how hard skateboarding is , like the mess up alot but its still so impressive when they land a move , this dude Tony Hawk out here 55 years old stil killing it , thats ridiclous
Tony Hawk is a true legend... pure BADASS!!!💯🔥💯🔥💯🔥💯🔥💯🔥
Thank you Tony for making it normal to skate past 40.
1:40 Clay just chillin on top of the roll in 🤙
Dude tony hawk in the xgames 23 is crazy !
i love that jimmys kickflip boardslide isnt even his trick
next time please bring xgames to southamerica, is so sad see so few people watching, here you have millions every contest
Gui representou de novo
Parabêns
Only one other sport that I know of has anything close to a Tony Hawk and that's Kelly Slater. Insane to see pros in their 50s holding their own against new blood.
Anyone else hear the commentator say "bitchie brusco" when introducing Mitchie? 😂 17:46
Why the 7th run?
Whoa as a guy who knows nothing this format of one fall is sick 👍🏼
I wanted to see Moto stomp that.
I know the kid was proud to hit the 900 in front of Tony Hawk. I wish they showed him more love for that, and I mean from the skaters.
watch the year prior’s best trick and you’ll know why. Gui is not well liked by anybody.
Gui Khury saying "HI MOM" at 1:22
Ace replay on the Hawk move.
Tony hawks doing side quests out here 😂
I know Vert n Snowboarding pipe is similar, but the snow makes it look better..
Tony hawk is sick I’m now ready for a skateboard at 32
I'm 46. Got back on a board this year. Haven't felt this good in years.
Danny Mayer used to have the best kickflip mctwist now its Moto Shibata
You shouldn’t be allowed to do the same trick you already won with in a best trick contest. That would never slide on the street course
How long have you been on the board now?
Keep at it Tony Hawk! You're gonna be one that everyone looks up to one day I can see it.
The graphic on Tony's board is so 🔥
Gary brings life to skateboard commentary
production team bringing the C game all weekend lol
Looked like gui was trying a 900 varial .. thumbs up to Tony says as much anyways
Looks like kickflip varial 900. A NBD!
He will probably land it sometime soon.
Spins very fast!
@@augustvong7057 super rad.. kid is crazy good
Yoo that kid at the end telling was driving me so nuts yo
Wow, props to Tony Hawk still skating well! At the age of 53! Legendary! 💯
55
Scored it Elliot, Moto, Clay
didnt even know until today that tony is competing... unbelievable
Tony with that sexchange blunt was sick!! 🎉
Sick competition! Much respect Birdman!
was it a nollie 900 or a Indy 900?
Wait, you did have this event? Why didn't you guys stream it? :(
Awesome
surely it's broadcast on sat/cable?
They did stream it, every event I think, but all '23 Japan streams have been set to private and reuploaded as stand alone videos.
Decent amount of speculation as to why, but won't add to the fire.
@@0harris0 today they put highlights on espn disney only owns 49%
@@richskater disney owns 49% MSP capital owns 51% they probably want to reorder some stuff
tony: yeah, i'm almost 60. watch this. *does body varial to switch blunt stall, switch bs 180 to fakie*
shut uuuuuuup tony
I should have just watched the highlights for this one lol
i love xgames!!!
Wish they would of had big air this year or did they not have that competition yet already?
It's amazing to see Tony Hawk still competing at his age. Inspirational!
hey hey heyyyyyyyy
That ramp looked pretty haggard for xgames
hahaha it does tho
I think it rained and they have to mop it with something sticky
looks can be deceiving, in fact they are a lot of times.
Did X-Gamesstop doing BMX vert?
I personally would’ve put the nollie 900 at the top spot and the fakie heel 720 at second. How can 900s be looked at like nothing these days? They are still insane!
But it's just a grab n spin trick. 720 heelflip fakie takes more tech skill and board control.
@@deadbeat-vc9kg normally I’d agree with you but the speed at which the spin occurs is past the flipping threshold for a skateboard and needs to be better appreciated for what it is. Especially being nollie, that right there is what tops the added flip for the 720. Really what’s going on is he’s a little kid and the judges are using that as a form of prejudice to not give him the top spot.
27:46
Tom has his hoodie up taking off knee pads cause he gave Tony his Monster helmet.
And then Tony proceeds to throw away his helmet as well. :D
@@punumoi He probably tried to throw it up to Schaar. He haven't practiced his helmet-throwing skills in a while. :D
Clay has soooo much potential.
i love Gary
I grew up skating in and around Mitchie Brusco in Washington. I was 5-6 years older than him and would see him and his Mom at the skateparks. His mom was his biggest fan, she would buy a ticket to indoor skateparks so she could enter the skating part of the skatepark and follow him around cheering him on. Seeing that always struck a cord with me, to have parents that supportive of 5-6 year old child seems so odd. I wonder what their relationship is like now.
Nollie 900 is cool, but that kickflip 900 would be nuts!
Yo, can we get some guys with some vert knowledge to commentate? And why does Sloan keep winning with the same old trick? That giant shove Kreiner did was better. Moto's backflip varial was sick too.
Yeah that’s bs.. plus he did it on a run they weren’t suppose to have. Supposed to be six.
what trick was Mitchie trying?
Wonder what the dude on the top of the ramp giving the thumbs 👍 to the next rider gets paid what a rad job
Happy belated bday mr hawk you are a legend for reals
