I’m confused what sewing through the tread does. Is it just to allow glue to dry, or something? Doesn’t that create a ton of holes that could allow water in?

Extra durability for the sole and keeps it from separating from the boot when under extreme heat or cold

*It's a special stitch to keep the midsole and rubber sole in place. Those are also adhesive stitches. That’s because the water or lubricant activates the adhesives in the stitches. During the wear of the boots, even if one of the stitches got cut, the entire boot will still hold in place. Also, Nick's Boots use a stitchdown construction. Meaning the edges of the uppers, flare out where the welt would be, and get stitched down onto the midsole. This stitch in the video is specifically for the outsoles (the Vibram rubber). So you shouldn't have to worry too much about moisture getting inside the boots. You can still apply waterproofers to the uppers though! Because they will soak in sweat still without applying any waterproofer to the uppers. They help protect from other elements like the rain. I hope this helps!*
