I wouldn’t call it a fun collaboration but a powerful one. Like an anthem of support to the LGBTQA+ community after the devastating massacre at the Pulse Nightclub (in Florida) where 49 people were killed and over 50 more injured back in 2016. All of the artists in this video are part of the queer community. Such an amazing version of this song.

Brian Justin Crum was the third singer. Check out his cover of Creep from AGT. If you decide to watch it make sure you get his interview portion in front of the song. It makes the song more impactful to my mind.

What a powerful cover! It is amazing! I love it. By the way, Brian Justin Crum did an amazing cover of Creep on AGT that is worth checking out. PTX also did Creep. My husband killed himself in February of 2022. I discovered Pentatonix in September of that year. Their music has been very helpful to me as I deal with the grief and anger.
On November 19, 2022, a murderer with an assault rifle walked into Club Q, a queer nightclub in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles south of my home west of Denver. He planned to reproduce the horror of the Pulse massacre.
This time we got lucky. This time there was a hero present who saw people he loved being killed and ran TOWARD the danger. And against all the odds, this unarmed man succeeded in taking down a man in body armor wielding an assault weapon, using only his bare hands and his own body weight. Because of him, this time we "only" lost five people. One was the mother of an 11 year old daughter 😢. At least two were shot while attempting to protect others - most heros don't live long enough to tell us that they aren't "really" heros, the way the man who took down the gunman did.
That was November 19. I first heard about Club Q on November 20, when I was in my seat at Denver's Ball Arena, checking email on my phone while waiting for Pentatonix to come on stage for my first ever live PTX concert. It was like a punch in the gut. I've lost so many gay friends over the years, to AIDS, suicide, simple old age and heart failure, and the thought of any of those beloved friends being in Club Q brought back all of those old losses, piling in on top of my more recent loss in a crushing weight.
Pentatonix was late coming on stage - I think Mitch and Scott were still writing the remarks they wanted to make about the Club Q shootings - but eventually they came out. Mitch led us in a moment of silence. Scott talked about queer nightclubs, about how they're supposed to be safe places for queer people to meet with family, friends, and allies for good conversation and good fun, and what it's like when that safe place suddenly becomes unsafe. Then Pentatonix pledged a large sum of money to the recovery efforts in Colorado Springs, and the concert proceeded.
Yes, it was a good concert, despite the cloud hanging over us from the shootings. I had to leave early to catch the last bus back to where I'd parked, and by the time I got to my car I was chilled through - it was a cold night. The car's heater didn't do much to fix that; when I got home I replaced my dangly earrings with studs and changed into my warmest pajamas before sitting down in my recliner and pulling two blankets over me, for "just a couple of minutes, until I get warm." I woke up 5 hours later, still too cold, with an aching neck and back. So I took a couple ibuprofen for the pain and made a pot of coffee for the lingering cold, and when I began to feel better I discovered a deep need to revisit SuperFruit's cover of "Rise."
This time I noticed the things I'd missed the first time I listened to it. This song, as rendered by these people, speaks directly to my fears for the future without my husband by my side. It's a powerful anthem of hope, of defying the odds and emerging victorious.
Three days later was Thanksgiving, my first Thanksgiving as a widow, and I was still listening to "Rise." It got me through Thanksgiving. The next month it got me through Christmas. In January it got me through my first birthday without my husband, and in February it got me through the first anniversary of his death. It continues to get me through all the holidays and anniversaries that I'm now celebrating on my own.
I have now downloaded "Rise" for my permanent personal playlist; I anticipate that I'll still be listening to it on my own deathbed, a few decades from now. And it is one of the reasons I expect to have those extra decades; it strengthens my resolve to defy the odds against me and live my own life in my own way.
Thank you for sharing this and i am sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. Music can definitely be healing and help us get through dark times. It can be there to support us, remind us and comfort us. Pentatonix is an amazing group that has already brought much joy and value to my life through their performances. My sympathies are with you. Grief is crushing and can blot out any hope for the future. I'm 74 and as such have lived through the loss of so many people through the years. I almost have survivor guilt. But one thing I've learned is that you have to take whatever time you need to get through. You're already over the most difficult phase i.e. making it through each anniversary in the year. Another is that when you are able to look at pictures, videos and memories and start to remember those good things that made the eventual pain inevitable, you can bring them back into your heart and mind where they will always exist. I fully understand the anger and possibly the guilt that you might feel about perhaps not noticing the signs etc but that was not your choice, it was his. One day you will forgive him, understanding that no-one makes that decision in their right mind and then you will truly start to live again when you can bring your past into your present and feel whole again as a place to look into your future. I hope it is sooner rather than later but have faith, it will happen even if you can't see that now. I wish you the best.
This is quite possibly the most powerful anthem I have ever heard... In response to the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Florida where DOZENS were shot and killed and even more were injured.

Mary Lambert is a singer who has worked with Macklemore and Ryan, Brian Justin Crum is also a solo artist and so is Mario Jose.
Fun fact:
Mario was a stage set-up guy with PTX some years ago and they, specifically Scott, noticed how fine his singing was, so Scott helped him get more notice, sang a few songs with him via Superfruit and set him up to open for the show one night...and paid for Mario's parents to attend the show. Mario has his own solo career now.
Oh...and that "back and forth" with the lyrics between two singers is technically know in singing terms as "call and answer".
I thought he was on the sing off, not sure if it was the same season as PTX. But they’ve been friends for years and years and have always known he could sing. He went to Berklee college of music. He did also work as a tour assistant for PTX.

@@Gwennedd he was on the sing off. I forget which year, but I am pretty sure the group he was in Pitch Slapped maybe?) was eliminated very early. I also caught him singing as part of the background chorus during a judges' performance on the Voice last week.

Calum Scott was the first opening act for Pentatonix during their 2018 tour. He closed his set with his version of "Dancing on my Own", which was just his voice and a piano. Stunning.
