I have a holster maker near me called Holsterco. They actually make Kydex sheets for that knife and if you asked they could put that retention on for you.

    Thanks for an interesting video.
I was amused when you talked about cutting your shirt if you had to deploy a neck knife. I'm guessing that any of us who reach the point of needing to deploy this kind of knife in self-defense are not going to be thinking about our shirts.
In one sense, I understand your concern about retention. In another sense, I understand why Ka-Bar didn't add some kind of retention feature to the sheath. The use case for this knife is one where tenths of a second might be important. In that kind of scenario, I can see where people wouldn't want to be grasping for a release button.
I suspect that the original idea was this knife would be largely concealed and maybe not even noticed by an attacker. Police officers have all kinds of objects on their belts. An attacker who was touching the belt would find plenty of objects that would have a similar feel. An attacker might not even know right away that he (or she) had a hand on the knife handle. Now that the knife is so well known and readily available, more people would recognize the feel of this knife and might draw it from the officer in a fight.

When I was serving in the Navy during Desert Storm I met up with some Australian special forces. Long story short they talked alot about Hardcore Hardware in Australia. They made some knives like that. They have a sister company now that took over but if you look them up wow some of those knives. Still in touch with those crazy guys. Lol.

Well, Just one of 10.000 knife Manufakturers 🙄. HcH has Same Problem, it allows No good Hammer grip
Imagine the opponent is over you on the ground, and your only Option is stabbing to the ribs, liver and the whole Side of the Body. Which knife were best to hold for this? For a Natural wrist angle its Just the Hammer grip.
So forget those Gimmick Pistol grip stuff😉
Pistol grip is OK If you can hold your opponent in Front of you and Stab and Stab and Stab... But in a chaotic Close range Situation youre fucked. If you Just can move youre lower arm you need a grip which allows you every Kind of grip. With a Hammer grip you Always have 2 possibilities, with Pistol Just 1.

The only reason I don’t carry a fixed blade is that it’s illegal to carry one concealed where I live and no way do I want to carry one openly. I’d love to either have this ka-bar or a clench pick. My wife has the esee Izula as a neck knife for when we go camping and it’s a pretty nice option too.

Illegal where I live too but i believe as long as you keep the clip exposed, you’re good

Thank you for this review. I just purchased one on Amazon. I have been looking for such a knife to use if a subject is attempting a gun take away. He/she should back off if slashed and stabbed.

The SNARL is a underrated Neck. It offers different grip Options and has a lower Holding angle Like Perrins Griffe, which is one of the best "Last ditch" knifes.
    CRKT Owlet
    CRKT Minimalist
    SOG SNARL
    Fred Perrin Griffe
There are some more usable necks but these are my faves
But once again, If you need a self defense EDC than a Folder will forever be the best choice. Something Like CRKT M16 ZLEK or M21 large. Even the fact those thing Looks scarry, will make your opponent think twice If He attacks you.
If you hold those Neck you make him Just Smile.

Sorry to say but you've misterpreted the POU for the TDI. The aim was not "he's too close for guns, I'm switching to knife," but "he's already got hands on my gun and I want him off it before he shoot me with it." The TDI is a last-ditch gun retention tool, period. I agree with your statements on the ergos of the TDI LEK (vs. the LDK, which is an Onion field-type hideout--see Greg Ellifritz's blog on this as he's the one who designed it).
I also agree about the lousy factory sheath, but most factory sheaths are lousy. Good Kydex will fix a lot of the issues you cite, including one you didn't: the factory sheath only works at a 90 degree angle, which is sub-par for a belt sheath, but ideal for a pocket sheath, assuming the lining is narrow enough to keep the handle upright.

    • @WolfinProgress
      @WolfinProgress  Před 4 lety

whybother757 fair. But if someone is close enough to grab my gun they're also close enough to grab the knife. I've heard that it's happened before that this knife was used against an officer. Until I get an active retention sheath I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it.
