- Just a basics video how to use GENERATEME FM code in Processing software for all you glitch art enthusiasts out there
NOTE ABOUT COLOURS:
You can work with 16 colourspaces in the following code such as RGB,LUV and HWB. Check out the colourspace tab for names.
Just to give you an example LUV colour space can produce really nice bloody red colours.

heya sorry for late reply. I actually bring it into photoshop afterwards to add the colours to it or alternativelly you can use freeware called GIMP if you never touched either of the software before let me know and I can try give you some pointers that will hopefully help you out
I am trying to follow the tutorial, however, when I launch my Processing software it looks different. Says "sketch" at the top. It is the correct version 2.2.1
can anyone explain whats interesting about making glitches like this? I wouldn't consider this glitching, but picture manipulation like something you'd do in affinity or whatever. its not really a glitch if you just make it like any other picture and it can just be repeated. Im not trying to be an asshole im just curious what people find interesting about this, since what I find interesting about glitch pictures is that they are actual glitches and its the randomness of the mailfunction that creates an image that cannot be repeated, and the condition making it possible only exists this one time because of a series of random events leading to this exact moment of failure. thats what makes it interesting to me. obviously none of these things are present when you do it like this, so I wonder what makes this interesting to you?
A very good question actually. I can only speak for myself as you know taste in art is subjective from person to person, but honestly this cuts down time to edit a picture in this effect, because its not the easiest effect to do in Photoshop or Affinity unless someone has made an action for it, but also instead of using a photo editing software where you see everything on the screen and have control of it visually, in this instance you're basically praying to code lords to give you something interesting and then figure out how you can change things in code to change what preview the code will spew at you so its a bit of a blind adventure for someone who was limited knowledge in programming.
Me personally I'm still in awe how a photo that's flat and has some perspective in it and shows 3D objects,people and environments with a code can be transferred into this line effect, but like still retain its 3D look even tho its just simple almost white lines on black background. Like photos we take are made with tiny dots and here I have feeling of perspective and volume but now its all made out of simple lines. Im still trying to wrap my mind around this optical illusion and how our brain fills it up to look 3d when its just lines on a flat surface.
Speaking of the "glitches" that I assume you talk about like the ones we had on say damaged VHS tapes back in my days there is actually more different variants of these codes that make different glitch effects and some will produce those very unpredictable glitch looks you're talking about. Personally tho I find every time you process an image it will spew out a slightly different result at you. Yes there is some similarities in previously generated work if you used same code on same image, but I think glitch artwork just gives us that feeling of nostalgia we crave of less chaotic times, but like any artist when you create something you still want there to be a sense of some control too so you can guide in which direction an image goes because lets be real if we were to randomly generate something we absolutely hated we will just delete the image and try again.

thanks for the tutorial! any idea how to make the fm modulation lines horizontal instead of vertical?
I havent played around much with the code myself, but maybe try turning image 90 degrees before you input it into processing so when you got the desired effect all you need to do is turn the image back -90 degrees so the lines are horizontal on it.

i can't run this. Processing says : the size of this sketch could not be determinded from your code.Use only number for te size command. what do I have to?
hi! how are you? i'm trying to use processing but i have an error that it says: The function toColorspace(int, int) does not exist. The version i get is processing 4, but i dont know why appears that
I know it's a bit old of a video but trying this now with processing 2 and I get a different error with each script. Is there any way to download the specific processing version I need for this? I am currently using Processing 2.2.1 and I'm using the Generateme scripts for Processing 2 and not 3.
I figured it out! There's a sketch folder if you click Sketch in the menu and then Show Sketch Folder or Ctrl+K. Hopefully this helps someone!

hello, awesome work ! however, the processing 2 doesnt open ! i followed all the steps you mentioned here on this tutorial but i still the processing 2 doesnt open ! i'm on windows 10 , 64bit ! could you or anyone help please ? thank you in advance !
that's an odd one can you maybe do a screen record video of what happens when you try and open in and link me to see if someone can trouble shoot?
i want to do this but the link for the proccessing software doesnt work when i try to download verrsion 2. Only version 2 downloads and im not sure why?
Jack Version 2 is the older version which is the version you need for this

What have you changed in the code itself? Have you tried running the code without changing anything on it to see if the error is still there?
When I get that error the file size is usually not entered in or I accidentally deleted the comma in between the H and W

Its a band called mushroomhead if you look on google images you will be able to find it fairly easily

what issue you're having?
When i put my photos won't accept it and it writes "This file is named test.JPG not ./test.jpg. Rename the file or change your code". I don't know whatto do.
