    That's a beautiful buggy pattern Davie! Fished dry or wet as a drowned beat up insect it just screams "eat me"! I love your split wing patterns, I'm definitely tying this. Thank you!

    Ah ... the Passion Vine hopper. Encountered a rise to these gossamer creatures at the top of S.Island NZ a few years back. It was hard to se the flies themselves so transparent are they on the water. I cracked the code with some very sparse cdc and elk ties in 18's and 20's on the natural lighter coloured cdc. Had some frantic sport for half an hour or so which included some nice sea run browns. Davie... thanks for your great service to all fly tiers. I started with your videos and yours are still the patterns that draw me back when I look for inspiration and technique. Unpretentious and well thought out / researched and a generous and calm style. Thanks again. Tim

    Another excellent pattern Davie. This would work over here in the states as a Caddis pattern very well on Brook and brown trout. Definitely adding this to my box this year.

    Great looking dry fly mate. That one would be a super one for brookies over here. Got to have some of those in my box. Thanks for sharing another great pattern with us all. Have a great day. Best Regards, Ken

    Very nice tye! With the possum for dubbing, I'll probably soak the fly in a floatant before she hits the water. I can see the evening bream bite already on my favorite freshwater lake. Can hardly wait for milder weather: we're experiencing an unusually nasty winter in Minnesota, US. -32 degrees F, wind chill factors close to -60 degrees F, with lots of snow. Thanks again for the great videos, Davie.

    Thanks for doing your version of this pattern. I will be fishing this fly down here in NZ once they appear in late Jan / early Feb. I have a few version of this pattern I fish but as per usual fish tend to get weary when they see the fly too much. Will be great to have another option in my box. Thanks again Dave, love your work. Tight lines - Chris.

    There's not a doubt that this would work well down here in the high country of South Eastern Australia, Davie. Nice effort and just for a little variety in my box, I'll put a few of these together myself. Thank you. 🇦🇺

      Hi Bill,
      I'm glad you like the fly and that you feel it's worth a go, could you let me know how get on with it...
      All the very best Davie

      I will do. Ha ha ha! However, here come the qualifications, Davie. The current summer, in this part of the world, has been exceedingly warm and dry. Water levels on most rivers/streams, on the main continent, have dropped considerably (some to mere trickles) and have warmed up to temperatures which are not healthy for trout. The fish and the fishing are suffering immensely. To say the fishing is difficult would be an understatement in the extreme. We persist. Cheers, Bill 🇦🇺

    Very nice Davie!! A simple generic caddis fly that will be excellent in small sizes for the panfish I fish for. I'll tie some larger size #6 or #4 flies to use as an indicator fly on a "hopper-copper-dropper" three fly rig and will probably add some rubber legs that the bass like so much. Thanks for sharing! ATB! Hank

    Спасибо за показ. Для себя усвоил прием оставлять кончики пера фазана сверху. И работать люблю с натуральными материалами, только нет экзотики, как джангл кок.

    Hi, if anyone is interested in how well these flies work in this part of the world, check out:- www.flylife.com.au/library/articles/46lacemoth/FL46Lacemoth.pdf.
    There are many ways of tying these flies, but I do like Davie’s method as I can pick up most of the material off “road kill” and the deer hair from our farmed red deer. Tight lines!

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 3 lety

      Hi fabian nacuchi,
      I would fish it upstream and then allow the fly to drift over a rising fish though I would be quite happy to give it a wee pull as it would make a good wake..
      All the very best Davie
