Thank you for this video. My friend and I got synthetic sarees at a function. My friend washed hers , the saree left a lot of colour. When I got th know, I searched you tube and found your video. I bought alum, had vinegar at home. I washed it following your video. When I soaked in hot water with alum + salt, it did bleed. So I soaked it for only 15 minutes. But after the second step ( soak in water + vinegar and air dry ), I washed it in liquid soap, no colour came out of the cloth! I am so happy with this cheap simple method. I got a piece of alum for just Rs. 5 from the local store. Today, I washed my black & orange colour cotton kameez. That too is a success. So thank you thank u thank you….❤

I think it's mostly effective for cotton clothes and especially cotton clothes with block printing and non synthetic colors.

Seems the following is what she explains: Have Salt, Alum and vinegar available.
Warm water. Soak all new cotton clothes in
Salt 150 grams salt for about 4 to 5 garments and
Crushed Alum two pieces. For minimum 2 hours.
Then remove clothes and soak in cold water with 1 tablespoon of vinegar for about 5 minutes, separately for red, and black clothes. Then hang them to air dry, but not in direct sunlight.
Then hand wash them separately in cold water.
