If you are buying, rightstuff has sunrise sales (summer/winter) when stuff is 40% off so that is the time to buy.
I got this on sale a few weeks ago. This was a super awesome and detailed review. Most videos I see like this don't go into detail in clearly showing the set and talking about the context of everything in it. Really great video.
Thank you! I go into making videos like this thinking about what questions I would have about a set
Least you guys have the broadcast version till the new masters are sent out. Here in the UK our ultimate edition has been delayed until they get the blu-ray masters.
Dang. That delay sucks but at least you're going to get the best version when it comes around!
Well I've finally got my Ultimate Edition in from Anime Limited. It's basically the same as this except more compact like the 00 and g gundam ones. Also comes with 13 art cards and a poster.
Oh nice! It sounds slick
The director of Gundam Seed admitted at Cloud Matsuri last fall he would remake the entire series if given the money, time, and resources. He did get a chance to change a lot with the HD Remaster but he wanted to edit it as much as he could.
That makes a lot of sense. The cutting of the two clip shows definitely helped with that too
@@Soundout12 I have read online there is an HD Remaster of the Special Edition films released in certain theaters in Japan. Since the director really would like to remake the whole series I’m sure it includes all of the remastered footage from the TV Series and possibly even newer enhanced footage. I have no proof that newer footage was added though. Just a feeling considering the how the past releases are and the director’s comments. I could also eventually see a Blu-ray release come next year in Japan considering it’s Gundam Seed’s 20th anniversary. Still there is no announcement of it yet.
I REALLLLY want to see a remake of this phenomenal series.
@@Soundout12 is black box with Gundam seed with collection feature complete
i was on the fence on getting the blu-rey set for my favorite anime but this video has made me want it now!
Glad to hear it! The set is even better now than when it came out as they’ve upgraded the HD video to the Home Video version!
What sold me in the video is that the older dub is included which makes me very happy, since that dubbed verison of the show is what got me into anime to begin with
I recently purchased the Collectors Ultra Edition of Gundam Seed and was not disappointed in the least. This was actually my first time watching the show and I had heard mixed reviews about the series. I have to admit while Gundam Seed does have some issues I thoroughly enjoyed this series very much. I have to say that some of the best Gundam combat scenes are held within these episodes. I luckily found this set on sale and it was heavily discounted so I figured why the hell not and made the purchase. I am quite pleased with this set. This was a fun series to watch.
Thank you very informative video 🙏🙏
I honestly love the new dubcast of nyav voices with max Mittelman, Cherami Leigh, Chris Hackney, Lisa Ortiz etc but it is definitely worth it imo as a die hard Gundam watcher from seed and seed destiny remastered Blu Rays . Ultra editions are epic
I like the new dubs too!
@@Soundout12 finally someone who understands me!
I've never got around to watching this but considering this version is on sale for $80 right now I really thinking of pulling the trigger.
I've got that Hygogg too. Its from those little Universal Unit
Oh yea. Thats the name of the line. Universal Unit is cool
I know I'm a bit late but just bought this and the ultra edition of seed destiny from Right stuff. Haven't been able to watch it yet. (Came while I was at work) is the master still wrong or does it now contain the correct master? Also Seed is one of my top favorite Gundam series
It should be the corrected masters as Nozomi pulled the set and replaced the discs before restocking it
K so got A weird situation.
Last month I downloaded the HD remaster of Gundam Seed until the Rightstuf set came and it had the new scenes as well with the older English dub.
I get the Bluray collection from Rightstuf today but only has the new, horrible English dub.
Is the downloaded copy from another physical copy or did someone use the older English dub?
Must be whoever did that upload did an edit to put the old dub on the HD footage
I know people hate on SEED, but this was my first full exposure to Gundam in English. Didn't watch of Gundam Wing on Toonami. I DID watch Endless Waltz. I also remember the disco guns from the Toonami/Cartoon Network edit.
From NyaaTorrents, there is a fan edit of SEED & SEED DESTINY with the Ocean Dub retimed to the Blu-ray video. It's not perfect, but it's not too bad.
Honestly I feel like a lot of hate for SEED just comes from Destiny leaving people in a bad spot at the end. SEED’s honestly a good show.
I’ve seen the edit and its a good attempt
anyone knows how to identify the original release from the corrected version they sent later? i got the discs mixed up and dunno which is which. :(
The discs have a code at the edge of the disc between the "Region A" logo and the "Sotsu" copyright stamp. The corrected discs codes end in "HV". Example: The HD corrected discs code is "RSBLU2060LHV"
@@Soundout12 thank you so much! I was rewatching the broadcast instead of home release.
@@robertoveroyguitar Happy to help!
Seed Destiny is coming with Stargazer. Speak of, isn't Destiny supposed to be out in the US now?
It was supposed to ship the 9th but there was a delay in replicating the discs so its been delayed
@@Soundout12 By how long?
Where did you get the set
Rightstuf Anime
@@Soundout12 I have not bought this yet. Will the new home video masters be repackaged in it once they come in?
Hopefully they will. I know the set is listed as temporarily out of stock on Rightstuf because of that. I haven’t received the replacement discs yet as they’re still working on them. It sucks they basically had to redo everything
@@Soundout12 Thanks man! Appreciate the info and speedy reply. Nothin' to do now except patiently wait for updates on when they'll come in. 😎👍
Love the update to seed but the new dub is just god awful....like even a fab dub would be better then the new dub they did. I have to say it was a major let down. None of the emotions, changing characters personality, poor Pronounce ciation, changing lacus songs that hold no emotion or even go with the Rhythm of her songs. I mean im watching seed on funimation with the new dub and it's just sad what they did and all because they wanted to save a few bucks on voice acting.
One reason i want this set is to take the remastered animation and dub over it with the original dub
No disrespect to your review, Soundout12 but I got to say this,
As someone who has listened to the original dub in it's entirely at least a few hundred times at least (I'm not kidding about that, I'm AM that kind of fan), I am disappointed with the quality of the new dub. It's one thing to not use the ocean group again, but this new dub felt devoid of all character emotion in the delivery.
Which is annoying since a lot of these voice actors did such a great job on other Gundam series like Iron Blooded Orphans.
Max Mittelman made Kira sound more like a crybaby than Matt Hill ever did.
Cherami Leigh, while respect for everything else I've seen her in, made the Tom boyish Cagalli sound like she was having an identity crisis. Also while the dialogue was not her fault, come on, in what world does she say stuff like "hey slow down there hot rod".
Chris Hackney as Athrun sounded like he would rather be anywhere else.
Stephanie Step was disappointing, as this was the one VA I thought was perfect for her assigned role. Her gentle voice in past roles put her on par with Chantal Strand, but she sounded like she was mixing her Hinata/Orihime and Mineva Lao Zabi personas together.
Carrie Keranen, who gave Carta Issue life, besides voicing Murrue did the narrator voice. Why did she feel the need to read every episode preview in such a lifeless robot voice. She reminded me of very early digital assistant automatic voices.
One of the most irritating things, Haro and Lacus's singing voice. I've compared both original and remaster versions, why couldn't they just tweek Tabitha St. Germain and Jillian Michaels recorded lines or something and lay it over. Instead we get a Haro who won't shut up about birthday cake like he has a computer virius, and as if referencing the early comments about her when this series first came out almost 20 years ago, we get a new signing voice that actually DOES make Lacus sound like a naive airhead.
And most importantly, why are veteran voice actors getting pushed to the sidelines. They had Johnny Yong Bosh, Yuri Lowenthal, and Michelle Ruff voicing minor side characters who has little dialogue and/or died. (Dearka, Miguel, Aisha)
These are legend voice actors, you hire them on you give them an actual role, not use them as window dressing.
Johnny and Yuri should have been the obvious choice for Kira and Athrun. Matt Hill and Samuel Vincent made the two work cause they were friends in real life, Johnny and Yuri have worked together enough and if you need proof they could have pulled it off the best friends trying to kill each other scenario, I direct your attention to a little anime called Code Geass.
Michelle Ruff should have voiced Cagalli, something close to how she voiced Rukia in a serious tone and obviously with better dialogue, again the hot rod mention from before.
Have Stephanie Sheh tweek her delivery a little, as I still can't see any other VA who would match Chantal Strand
These four VA's are not only amazing, but they have a ton of experience doing anime roles together. The four of them voicing the main characters of Kira, Athrun, Cagalli, and Lacus might not have perfected the new dub, but would have definitely improved it and made it far more enjoyable.
Now someone is going to say that then it would have cost them more, but how much were they making by charging us more on the weak ultra edition.
While the only other ultra edition I have is Gundam 00, it had the same amount of video content, 50 episodes, 3 special editions, and even a movie which SEED still doesn't have. It cost over $50-70 less and it had a bunch of extra physical collector's items.
The SEED ultra edition looks like they just charged more for the extra big packing as you can see in the video.
I know there are some people who will say they like this dub, most of them are just watching the remaster as their first version of the series itself. If those of you like it, by all means go enjoy it.
I'm just saying for those of us who have watched the original dub for years, who have treasured the emotional depth and delivery given to the characters, this was just so disappointing.
I've enjoyed the work NYAV has done on other Gundam series and such, but they should be ashamed of how they messed this up.
I'm only 5 episodes in so can't comment on Lacus, but I agree about the narration. The Ocean narrator put more energy into the delivery, especially at the end when she'd let loose with the dialogue.
@@BradLad56 yes, especially when you know Carrie Keranen let loose enough times as Carta Issue on Iron-Blooded Orphans, don't know why she didn't do it here. The original narrator voice was Alison Matthews who's only other role was Yzak's mom. While that role was minimal, she still put that determination into the previews.
It's like this new generation of VA's don't bother to learn anything from the veterans, their basically just doing this for a paycheck now.
I should have made this joke a year ago but Hot Rod? What does she think this is? Transformers? Haha
Nono, the late Campbell Lane from the Ocean dub of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing is pretty good.I know, i am a newcomer to the franchise.
funimation now
I HATE that Crunchyroll bought out Rightstuff...
Same. The whole deal ruined everything Rightstuff did right
