      Thanks, it's a tricky one. I agree with you. I do make an assumption that if you arrived at this video that you would know that this device is simply not powerful enough to run HA Core.

      LOL... At least you can install them. I'm from the UK originally so I'm used to that form factor, but in Australia we have the horizontal rectangular back plates so the NS Panel Pro's don't actually fit unless you install a none standard back plate :(

    One other question, I have the new NSpanel pro setup on the network and I configured it as a zigbee router connected to zigbee2mqtt in home assistant. When I follow your process to install HA will I lose the zigbee router configuration

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  Před 17 dny +1

      I believe so, although I have never tried it, follow these instructions:
      - Firmware Update: Ensure your NSPanel Pro is running firmware version 2.2.0 or later, which added the Zigbee router feature.
      - Activate the device using the eWeLink app
      - Update to the latest firmware if necessary
      - Enable developer mode
      - In the eWeLink app, go to Settings > Experimental Features > ZigBee Mode
      - Tap on "Router Mode" to enable it (note that this may erase your data)
      - Install the Home Assistant Companion app using ADB as per the video.

    I'm in Australia and I'm keen to get an NSPanel Pro but looks like it requires an electrician to wire it before we can do anything with it. I'd like to power it somehow before getting it installed in the wall. Is there an easy way to do this without soldering wires?

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yep. Sorry but due to Australian law all wiring must be installed by a registered electrician. In my case I used a 12v inverter to power the NSPanel Pro for configuration purposes. I hope that helps.

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  Před 9 dny +1

      Hi Kris, I assume you solved this problem based on the later message, but common causes for this are:
      - ADB Access Not Enabled: The NSPanel Pro may not have ADB access enabled.
      - Incorrect IP Address: The IP address you're trying to connect to may be incorrect or the device's IP may have changed.
      - Firewall Issues: Your computer's firewall may be blocking the connection.
      - Device Not in Developer Mode: The NSPanel Pro needs to be in developer mode for ADB connections.
      Hopefully this will resolve.

    I did all the steps without any problem till 6:43 but after rebooting the screen in 6:43 is not shown but it still shows the original screen. I love it when the audience solve their own issues :)
      Yes, if you select always then it will launch the launcher and bring up HA. Otherwise it will need you to start the launcher and then go into HA.
      To solve, just follow through the ADB to bring up the launcher and select always if you want this to be a dedicated HA screen. Otherwise you'll need to do it manually each time.,

    Another question that does not match 100% to your video: I use NSPanel with fully kiosk browser instead of companion app now. Got two Devices, both configured identical (I think). However when turning off the screen on one device (via fkb) it drops wifi completely and it’s impossible to turn screen on again remotely. The other device does not show this.
    Any thoughts what I can do here?

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Never hit that issue. I suspect that they are not identical and might have either firmware or component differences. Regardless the process should be the same for both.
      I’d suggest verifying the components and firmware are identical and then raising a question with Blackaddr as to if this is something that others have seen and if there is a solution.

      @@smart_home_australia think I got it. Just installed the NSPanel tools apk which requested „run in background“ permissions. Maybe FKB has not requested this? As on the working NSPanel also companion app is installed, which is not installed on the failure device an app is missing thats requesting this permission. In both cases companion app is not used. Conclusion: it works now on both devices.

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks for the feedback, very strange that it needed the NSPanel tools apk, but does make sense that it needs permission to run in background.
      Regardless its great that you managed to get both working. I think I mentioned in the video that this was a "journey" with various version and incompatibilities. I've also tried this on a T6 screen and although I did manage to get that working the screen was way more expensive and you needed to break it open for flashing, so I scrapped that video as I didn't want hundred of frustrated viewers :)

      @@smart_home_australia LOL - super brave?!? Nar, I'm just generally stupid!! But to be fair in this case it worked, as the device rebooted no problem, with the framework showing the grreen tick. I did notice that as I'd already started to install / copy the files across before the no space warning popped up, that I got an orange warning in that box saying installed but not working.... When I cleared space and reinstalled successfully, the orange warning remained and the green / tick did not appear until a reboot.... but reboot it did and it was all fine.
      Regarding the latest firmware... I didn't actually want it! I took the nspanelpro out of the box, turned it on, connected to WiFi, went into the about section to get the IP address of the product and it was already downloading and updating 1/2 files.... no cancel option. I didn't click update... it did it all by itself on first boot.

      Ever get the feeling manufacturer are "forcing" you to upgrade and they cram firmware's into the space leaving as little wiggle room as possible. I know it cost extra, but it doesn't allow for extra community development, which would ultimately lead to more sales.
      Either way I still think Sonoff is a great company and that they really engineer products and dont just copy others at cheaper prices.

      Style information in XML is typically found in attributes or associated style sheets, but this XML seems to be purely for data and configuration, not for presentation. Therefore, it doesn’t contain any style information. If you’re looking to style this XML for presentation, you might want to consider using XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations), which is a language for transforming XML documents into other types of documents such as HTML or CSS. 😊

      running the adb command to get free disk space it says
      /data/media 3.3G 104M 3.2G 4% /storage/emulated
      Loads free!?!?!?

      Sounds like it might look to be the same device but the underlying hardware might be different or the firmware / sub framework might vary slightly and that under normal user cases this would not be an issue but in this case as space is so tight you are hitting that limit.

    Would a NSPanel with the two buttons work with this?

      I don't have one of these but I believe you can, but you cant do it completely over the air, I believe you need to gain access to the micro USB inside (do at your risk!), check out Blakadders full instructions. blakadder.com/nspanel-pro-sideload/

    What if i still want to use it as a Zigbee Hub and connect eg the scene controller Sonoff R5?

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, you can use the built-in Zigbee hub and run Home Assistant on the NSPanel Pro simultaneously. The Zigbee hub functionality remains independent, allowing you to control Zigbee devices, such as the R5, directly from the panel.

      @@smart_home_australia Does that mean that I can still run the WeLink and add the devices and then switch to the home assistant app for "viewing" purpose?

    • @smart_home_australia
      @smart_home_australia  Před 5 měsíci

      yes, but switching on the screen is going to be the issue. Kiosk mode, as the name suggests, means you will be locked into a single App, hence switching means power cycling the device.

      @@smart_home_australia Ok, so easiest will be the following steps:
      - Start up the Nspanel and run it in std mode including adding all my R5 switches into the zigbee network
      - Install the local apps including HA
      - If new devices needs to be adding I need to restart the panel by cutting power and choose the std app.
      Then another hardware restart and choose the local HA app
      Did I get it?

      Yep. that would be the process, or ADB into the NSPanel Pro and force a Home button press. Although I am not sure if the ADB connection would be maintained over an extended duration so power cycling is the safest way.

    Hello, do you get the zigbee hub also working?? Greetings.

      For the purposes of this video I was focused on the side loading of the Home Assistant companion App, not utilising the inbuilt Zigbee hub. I have another variant of the same panel that I will be testing shortly. That video will be focused on the base functionality of the device, including the Zigbee hub, so keep an eye out for that video.
