  • While Imola was another impressive show of force for McLaren and Ferrari in their pursuit of Red Bull, the same cannot be said of the two teams who have fallen away from the leading three. Aston Martin and Mercedes both bought upgrades to Italy and both teams were desperately disappointing. As the pressure builds inside both garages, can either of them turn their slumping form around? Will Alonso’s new contract turn out to be yet another career blunder? And are Mercedes going to continue going backwards into obsolescence? Today I’ll check out Imola’s failed upgrades and the terrible impact it could have on both teams, so let’s get to it.

It can’t be a coincidence that both AM & Merc use the same wind tunnel. The part I don’t get is they do well in the offseason and blow chunks with in-season upgrades.

Ha Ha Wouldnt that be hilarious if AM find their correlation issues are from the Merc wind tunnel after they get their own wind tunnel working properly

Flonso should be at Red Bull, the fit is perfect.

I bet Bearman will still beat Stroll in the points this year. It would probably only take one more race.

AM will always be a joke so long as they have a clown in the 2nd car

AM should have swapped Lances car with Alonso if they cared about points. Evidently it was a race to boost Lances confidence

I don’t want to jump on the Lance hate-train, but him saying the upgrades weren’t enough isn’t relevant. Last year was a perfect time to show the car off and he finished with nearly close to a third of Alonso’s points. He is not a good gauge of car performance because he is too erratic of a driver

I wonder if Horner has asked Newey if he knows what is wrong, We know Newey can see air and downforce.

Incremental gains are not going to win a championship any time soon for Mercedes, their models either in the wind tunnel or cfd are not giving the necessary correlation to the real world. Guessing at this or that and getting a few percent improvement with such an extensive upgrade package is sheer folly
