It isn't a pedalcembalo (pedalharpsichord) but a pedal UNDER a harpsichord: very useful... In a few words: there's not only hauptwerk ;-)

Imagine using a pedal harpsichord for continuo. So much power!
...ingenious instrument. The reeds in the pedal harmonise very well with the strings.
For me to receive such so nice words from a musician and musicologist so important, as you are, it is a great honor, many thanks Mr. Di Veroli!
The instrument is very interesting, I was pleasantly surprised how well the organ sound blends with the harpsichord. But mostly, what an excellent performance! I always find Pachelbel a bit boring when I play it, but when I heard this I wanted to try myself. But it's nowhere near as vibrant and alive when I play it. Bravissimo!
Many years ago, I had occasion to see a Kilgen (or maybe Kimbal) small home/chapel/chamber instrument. It had 4 or 5 unified ranks playing
on 2 manuals and Pedal. The bottom octave of the 16' Bourdon was a 16' Vox Humana placed inside a box lined with felt to deaden the upper harmonics and "rattle" of a short length reed Allowing more the fundamental to come through. It was quite effective in a small instrument.
This is a beautiful sounding harpsichord! And I really like the organ pedals in combination with it. I think I actually like this better than a traditional pedal harpsichord.
Exactly my thoughts
That's true I really like It!
Wow, just stumbled onto this. Combines two of my favorite instruments; Harpsichord and Organ. Love the sound of the pedalpipe organ!
Idk why the rankett solo at 11:06 makes me so emotional :(
Merci infiniment.
Look! I can play this marvelous piece extremely well on the harpsichord and I can dance at the same time!
Me again. Still love this music and the performer.
Superb!
WOW. Ever since seeing one of these in an encyclopedia in junior high I've wanted to hear one. Had forgotten until this random recommendation. Thanks for sharing.
Back again. Still impressing and wonderfull!
So this is what organists do on their days off
That penultimate note is beyond musicality..
Yes! We totally do that!
Amazing! I have been familiar with pedal harpsichords since the mid 70's when I discovered an E Power Biggs recording. Was familiar with his organ recordings but this astonished and delighted me at the time. Until now I have never known about this configuration of plucked strings and wind reeds and I love it. Thanks for posting.
I listen to ehis over and over again. The Rankett blends so well with the harpsichord! Amazing combination.
+Burkhard Terhart I am agree with you! :-)
After listening several times tot this video, I decided to build a pedalboard like yours from old Rankett 16' Pipes and a second hand pedalboard. My uncle is a carpenter and will help me to built a simple windchest. Iḿ really fascinated from this combination instrument. In our parish church an older harpsichord is in seldom use. I hope to change that... :-)
Burkhard Terhart did you build it?
Questo cembalo è molto bello! Grazie per la musica.
Wonderful!
Magnificent, a grand instrument and a remarkable performance.
Someday, I would like to play this musical instrument
Thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for posting this! I am in heaven! This is purest joy! S
Me encanta este instrumento... 8-)
I don't know why that is, but listening to reed registers tends to put me in a good mood.
This has put a smile on my face, for sure. Thank you, Marco.
(Oh, and a special thanks to Nuremberg, Johann!)
Bravo 👏
I love that final pedal trill
That's so beautiful and inspiring. Thank you!
This is gorgeous.
The ultimate harpsichord and the ultimate performance. What an accomplishment. Three actions at once, four if you include reading the music.
What a gorgeous, gorgeous instrument you have there, searched for a pedal Harpsichord expecting the usual coupling method, however the fact this has a pedal reed stop, is wonderful! Your playing shows clear understanding of how to get the best out of this instrument.
Amazing sound, the Regale with the harpsichord. I want one!
Ver good playing and so nice to hear the sound of the harpsichord..Its a bold sound suited for music of this period...
Bravo!!!!!
This was excellent. Thank you for posting this on CZcams. I close my eyes and the harpsichord takes me somewhere else. Some place... better. Thank you for that.
Thank you so much, very impressive presentation. It made me very happy, and I believe that's what Mr Pachelbel meant it to do.
Very, very lovely! Thank you.
Absolutely wonderful! Thank you.
The bass strings being plucked sound so crisp loud and nice. Good performance!
Ethan Morris I believe that the bass notes are actually organ reed pipes that are voiced to sound like a bright harpsichord.
One of my favorite videos on CZcams.
I would love to have a pedal harpsichord one day!!
Utterly brilliant! And presumably cheaper than a set (or two) of pedal strings? One doesn't even miss the lack of 16' tone. Love it!
thank you for this amazeing video . also the beautifull song.
wonderful!!! thanks!!!
Superb, magnificent, marvelous.
that made my day! thank you!
Thank you for this glory!
Excellent! Great work 👏👏👏
A rock'n'roll harpsichord! 😄👍
Amazing sound! Beautiful bass.
Something oulde, something new, totally awesome!
Wonderful instrument, great interpretation. I love the pedal finale you've added :)
Thank you!
Wonderful and funny. Thank you, had great pleasure doing maths alongside...
Baroque and math fit together. The Art Of Fugue was my regular study music. This is something very special.
Gracias!
Very impressing!
I love it!
Bravissimo!
AMAZING!!!!
Excellent musical performance.
beautiful music
Thanks!
Amazing :)
Great performance
wow lovely
I love it! It's amazing how similar in timbre the pedal reed is to the harpsichord!
What is a pedal reed?
@@caesarsneezer6992 The pedalboard on this instrument is connected to reed pipes (all the little rectangular shapes above the pedalboard, you can see them well from 1:30 onward when he films the pedalboard). If you don't know what reed pipes are, I'd suggest googling it, as it will be a bit complicated for me to explain it in English ;)
Wow!
WOW pachelbell was good back in the day.
Guilmant512 is correct, the Rankett is pitched at 16'. Wanda Landowska had a harpsichord with a a steel frame equipped with a 16' rank of strings!
I hear the 1610 Frederiksborg organ in the pedal. Magnificent!
Super instrument!! I like the sound of the reed stop in the pedal
it is how the baroque organists practiced without the bellow boys pumping away, Bach had 2 of them in his inventories.
bravissimo marco
Complimenti.
Merci!
The question I just posted is mainly about the beginning section when the pedal first enters. I think I'm right in that the left hand is doubled by the pedal making me think the manual is coupled to the pedal..Later in the piece I hear only the Rankett in the pedal.
Very nice
Took me a fair way into the video to figure out that this is actually a claviorgan. I didn't know any playable replicas had been made.
Please upload more with the pedal harpsichord and close ups!
Joy!
Il Rankett è in 16' non in 8'
Oooff, nice
Wow. I have never seen a pedal harpsichord before. This sure is different and I like it. Seems complicated to me. Then again I don't play. Wish I had learned but we were a very poor family. Thank you for the music.
You guys must understand that 16' refers to a set that plays in the contrabass range, like a contrabassoon.
Several aspects of this performance are remarkable. Not only the unusual but excellent choice of instrument but, mainly, the playing. It is obvious that Vincenzi has devoted lots of study to decide on every single details of this very raffinated interpretation: Baroque playing technique, careful realisation of ornaments, excellent registration, great overall musicianship. Again, bravissimo!
Impressionante a destreza e precisão destes músicos.
Tolles Instrument. Hervorragende Interpretation.
Rankett, huh? Never heard of it, but will follow up for sure. See, you tube is good for something!!
I really have to know what temperament the Rankett pipes are tuned to. It sounds lovely.
Wait, there's a set of reeds on the pedals? I thought it was coupled for a minute. This is super, super cool. Is there a way you could also put a coupler to the bottom strings using some trackers? That would be really cool. You'd have a reed division as well as a 4' pedal harpsichord stop.
bellissimo....
Thanks for your kindness. Actually, mine was an Italianism, surely not proper English, but it conveyed my feeling.
Variationen sopra "Liebster Jesus, wir sind hier".
'RAFFINATED INTERPRETATION" is this localized musical terminology or a a semantic extension of your making? I find it wonderful.
"In chemical separation terminology, the raffinate (from French raffiner, to refine) is a product which has had a component or components removed. In metallurgy raffinating refers to a process in which impurities are removed from liquid material."
Do the pedals use strings or reeds? If reeds, would I be correct in assuming it is electronic to pump with through them?
Absolutely beautiful!
Just curious.. What feeds the air? If it's an electric pump I can't hear the motor, and there does not seem to be anyone pumping a bellows.
Of course there is an electric blower into a walnut case behind the pedalboard, you can see it in the photo at 00.10. When I'm playing the noise it isn't audible:-)
hienolta kuulostaa
5:40 So that's where Mortier got it from!
Magnifica interpretazione. Accordatura temperamento mesotonico?
Ma è l'Hexachordum Apollinis, oppure mi sbaglio?
I can't see how I'm hearing strings from the manuals with the pedal...am I wrong in that I'm hearing the manual strings coupled in with that pedal Rankett 16', or is the Rankett the only pedal sound heard?...I don't see a coupler mechanism from the manuals to the pedal... HOWEVER, I LOVE this post!..Thankyou!
In the first variation to include pedal, I could swear I was hearing strings coupled to the pedal too. How?
He doubled the pedal with the manual
