As a Barcelona fan for over 35 years I have watched Leo from the start. He is an amazing player, not only for his goal scoring & skill, but for what he brings to the team. His maturity defied his years from the outset. He is a brilliant goal scorer but he also provides ‘on point’ passes for his teammates. Watching that vid I had to hold back tears. Too emotional. The best thing about him though is the fact he is so humble. It breaks my heart that he had to leave Barca because of financial issues & I can’t bear to watch him play in a PSG shirt. It seems so wrong. But I know he will be back at Barca as soon as he can to help future generations of players. He would inspire the La Masia kids to be great too. He is the 🐐 & will be admired by the world & loved by Barca fans for ever.

When you have a player like Messi in your team, you are expected to win the UCL title much more than 2-3 times. What a shame how poorly the club managed this squad with Messi at the peak of his powers (2017-2020), I’m writing off 2016 because Messi wasn’t as great in the UCL.

1 - Lionel Messi will definitely be the greatest modern footballer without a doubt... a dribbling and scoring monster... the thing about Messi is that was excelled in all fields and attributes.
2 - The Rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is the greatest rivalry between two players in any sport ever... no knock to Kobe and LeBron, but they never really faced each other in a playoff.
3 - That Barcelona team of the late 2000s and early 2010s with Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest teams, if not the greatest team ever assembled... when I started watching... I hated them, and their bandwagon fans (not all of them)... but over the years I've grown to respect the players that made that squad, Puyol, Pique, Xavi, Eto'o, Iniesta, David Villa, Alexis, Busquets, even Neymar to a small extent, and of course Pep Guardiola... he new the system and how to make the best use of them.
4 - It is possible to win 6 titles... win the league title (La Liga), the National Cup (Copa del Rey), the national supercup (Supercopa de Espana), Champion's League, UEFA Supercup (vs. the winner of the Europa Cup), and finally, the Club World Cup. Players can win more in some years (playing for the national teams), some countries have other trophies as well (Carabao Cup in England on top of the FA Cup, EPL Title, and English Supercup "FA Community Shield").
5 - Messi now has 7 Ballon D'Ors... to compare... Barry Bonds is the only baseball player to win 7 MVPs in MLB... no one else has more than 3. (Ronaldo has 5 Ballons)
6 - The one thing that has plagued his career (and Ronaldo for that matter) is the lack of results for the international team... their best performance was the 2014 World Cup, where they lost the final to Germany... but on the upside, they did finally win a Copa America (South American National Team Championship) with Messi, and they'll play in 2022 in Qatar later this year.

He has stated that he works hard at being a good player but his goal is just to be a good man. He is the most gracious player of all sports. He is in my mind an example to be followed by all human beings. Gracious is an understatement! I wish him well in World Cup! I feel privileged to have watched this man play soccer in my lifetime. Growing up in my parents house was crazy my dad had a rule and that was if any of our friends knocked on the door when football was on we could end up grounded especially if my mum or dad had to answer the door haha I still till this day dont know who was the biggest football fan my mum or dad haha. The way the guy was getting excited when he was commenting on the game reminded me so much of my parents haha massive difference between the American football and proper football haha. My fear is that we will never again see players like Messi or Ronaldinho, those two, both separate and combined, were a true DELIGHT to see. Im an argentinian that barely watches any football, it honestly doesn't catch my attention. But those two... allways a true athletic spectacle. Something about Ronaldinho in particular made it feel very special. Messi is almost allways focused, on the match, with th eyes low, in the foots and the ball. Ronaldinho allways looked up. He managed to do what he did while looking around, the guy almost didn't watched the ball. That allways felt both alien and familiar, until i realized.... its alien because of how impossible it is, and its familiar because thats exactly what we all try to do when playing as kids. We ALL should be so happy and lucky to see two players that were for more than 10 years in another planet than everyone else, and still are on top now.
Once an interviewer asked him "What are the best players if we take Leonel Messi from the equation?" , and he said " Neymar, Mbappé, Hazard, Suárez and Kun (Agüero)" and the interviewer laugh and ask "No Ronaldo?". Leo responded "I didn't include him because I put him with me".
I think we will have to wait many years to see two players competing on they level. Or even a player that will be on that level.

I feel sorry for Messi, he is a great player and Covid has kinda wrecked him. They had to let him go, he was willing to take a massive pay cut. He started with Barcelona youth club before going on to the main team. He never wanted to leave the club. It is rare for players to do that, it is just sad.

Spain doesn't allow a follow up contract to be less than half the pay of the previous one. This is obviously to prevent abusive situations.
Barcelona wasn't capable of paying him half his previous wages so they had no choice but to let him go.

I remember watching live at home with my dad as he is just Liverpool supporter through and through. Ronaldo is a good player who made a career for himself due to hard work and dedication. What makes Messi really the GOAT IMO is his sheer amount of natural talent, his humility and the fanbase. Messi will never say that he is THE best player in the world, he's always been loyal to FC Barcelona and that made that even when he left, they still chanted his name to show their love for him. They just need to get rid of poch and his negative football and you'll see his best. Ronaldo drops hall of shame performances like the ones against Newcastle and Norwich and hides them with penalties and tap ins. I think majority of football fans know who the real GOAT is.
