Back then, the prince consort was given to who came from the most powerful family and was exceptionally beautiful and talented. Lady Ulnara should have been the prince consort when Emperor Qianlong was still a prince, but was instead a secondary prince consort because Lady Fuca was picked by Qianlong's grandmother and father.

@@LindaTran88 I love all the women! All the women in harem deserve at least some pity. They all had dreams, aspirations and were their own person before being used as pawns by their families to gain a political footing. They welded so much power yet had none for themselves.
I think the Empress Dowager did indeed have the Emperor's real mother, Madame Qian, killed. Her counter question to Wei Yingluo (" What do you think?") regarding this is very telling. Plus, she is really a sly old fox. She certainly didn't live to be her age without being cunning, given how an emperor's harem is full of conniving and scheming women, all out to go up the ladder and safeguard their position and power in the palace.
I also think that Yuan was secretly in love with Wei Yingluo himself so that when she left him at Yuanmingyuan to become one of the emperor's concubines, he couldn't forgive her. He was probably intending her to become his own empress in his grand scheme of taking the throne for himself and claiming his right to the Aisin-gioro name and royal status all of which was revealed towards the end of the TV series.

I have to say, the translation is superb. Even though some of the dialogues didn’t get translated directly, it actually makes the most sense in English.

No matter how high your position is, you will bow to your mother no matter what. I love the emperor here, he realize his fault, and he asked for forgiveness to the mother who raised him as his own. Maybe the Dowanger way back there is bad or not good, she still care about the emperor and take care of him. There maybe a dirty work on harem but true mother can accept a child and raised it as her own at least the dowangee know that the child is an exception on the plan.
this empress dowager is playing one of the greatest roles in cinematic history. female or male. but bc she is female she is extra awesome. actually she is amazing. does anyone know where is the playlist that continues this storyline? i saw one more video after this and then the next video in line has all new female characters. there must be more episodes to follow bc of the letter that exposes her identity
If you're looking to watch this TV series its called the legend of Yanxi Palace, all the episodes are on CZcams with English subtitles and its really good. There is also the love in ruyi palace which is another version of legend of yanxi palace. Most of the actors in legend of yanxi palace also act in another TV series called Legend of HaoLan. Most of these new historical chinese TV shows are about china's history but its really cool and entertaining to watch. You can fina all of them on youtube.
@@Angela-jn4li thanks Angela. the show is geared for women. obviosly there must be women writers. obviously there must be acceptance of women writers and women's themes in patriarchal china that none of us in the west ever knew about. and, Wei Ling is one of the best young female characters in a series of any kind.

@@waverayne2110 although not written or directed by women, lots of these historical dramas star the women as strong and directed and written by men which is quite nice to see men embracing and writing confident and strong female leads instead of making us weak and insecure. However it seems chinese government does not agree with the writer and directors direction with this show and pulled it from chinese tv but can still be found overseas like here on CZcams.

What I understand is, Madam Qian is the real mother or birth mother of Emperor Quianlong. Ang the Empress Dowager is just the Royal mother that raised him. The issues in the story is that the empress dowager was the one who killed Madam Qian.
That’s why the emeperor is mad at the empress. But the empress were able to avert that anger.
