The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Gorgeous, just like him. He never ceases to amaze me with all his talent!! ❤💋🎵🎼🎶
One of the smoothest voices ever🥰
I don't know what 's more Beautiful... the song or him? 👀 Thank you for sharing! 💖
Gorgeous song, handsome Jack Jones.
A great performance from the great Jack Jones. From Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it .
Lovely...💌
About four years after this performance he would sing the theme song to the TV show The Love Boat and release a disco version of the song the same year
I like Jack Jones ! He sang on The Judy Garland Christmas Show back in 1963 !
The “Wives and Lovers” guy!!!💃🕺
Excellent thank you for sharing
I love this song so haughty beautiful
The very best among the greatest balladeers of all generation
Footage and sound are both pretty impressive for a 50 year old clip. Nice tune too. 👍
Looks as good as he sings.
He’s good .
His father Allan Jones, what a singer !!! Cosi Cosá.
jones had a terrific voice....and i think his version of the impossible dream..is the best!....
his dad was Tom_Tom...in the march of the wooden soldiers...
Jack Jones the same Singer who went on to Sing The Theme to " Love Boat " Six Years later in 1977.
Good rendition.
This is the last "new" Ed Sullivan show. Jack Jones hosted. Ed left after the cancellation notice in March. Then they showed reruns in April and May. Don't know why they suddenly produced a new show. Maybe they expected Sullivan to come back and say goodbye?
Appropriate song then... "I don't know where we went wrong but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back" might have summed up Ed's feelings.
I never knew!!! How interesting to discover Jack hosted this episode.
Ed actually did come back in 1973 for his show's 25th anniversary special
The May 30 date listed here was the date CBS repeared the episode. The original air date was in March. The final broadcast on June 6 was a rerun from February(guests included Sid Caesar, and Gladys Knight and the Pips.
@@brianoneill7186 Wasn't Topo Gigio the final act on that rerun on 6/6/71?
Has anyone written a Jack Jones biography? I imagine there were some amazing things going on in his life.
A friend of mine absolutely loved this bloke in the late 60's...into the 70's....
I disliked him! Intensely.... He was so Old School! I was into the Stones. Led Zepp etc....
But I've mellowed with age..... and I now concede... The bloke was OK...in that era.
He was, essentially, an entertainer. and he did his job well. Big Thumbs Up... Belatedly.
Mr. GB Car 204.... Yes...Skippy has apologised. XX XX
I always wanted to sing this song to a fortune teller
Gordon Lightfoot's presentation was by far superior. This guy here, having listened to 4 of his songs, inc. The Impossible Dream, well... Jones cuts off the end of each part when he should trail it, making each linger for a moment.
Well, I listened to 2 of his best songs, e.g. The Impossible Dream, & I'm not impressed. Give me Dean Martin or Edward Woodward any day. My fav with Woodward is Yesterday When I was Young.
He sings the up beat songs better but this is very good to listen to
Wow....this is Jack Jones? Looks like John Davidson!
The Race Is On .... big !!
That’s George Jones
@@planejet42 Jack covered it
Nice...id never heard if him though
U & .m& m mmmmm
@@suesmith650 lol
Was it shown on that date?
Great Gordon Lightfoot cover
Hottie Van Hotterton!
Jack Jones is one of the finest singers; however he always was second tier.
Only Gordon should sing this!
we count the times
Such handsome blandness.
I like Gordon Lightfoot's version better.
I do too. Jack's voice wasn't suited to this song.
I like the version by star on 54
Me too.
I’ll take JJ and day!
A pale comparison to Gordon's heartfelt version. Jack seems to be rushing it. No feeling.
yes and i love this song .. he has no depth
Jesus, and for all these years I thought Gordon Lightfoot wrote that song. What's next? Will I learn that Roberta Flack didn't write "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" or something? (Nudge nudge, wink wink!).
"Nudge nudge, wink wink!" ????? Translation?
Where in the description does it state Jack Jones wrote this song? Gordon Lightfoot did.
@@iluvhou he's only kidding
It's a nice interpretation, but Lightfoot's rendition of his own song with the lovely lyrics has more depth, more texture.
Good version but Gordon Lightfoot was superior
With all due respect Gordon Lightfoot is the only one that should sing the song
Very ordinary performance. Not sure what is so special about this guy 🤔
Jones had a terrific voice in his prime......i think he picked a lot of bad songs to sing...but if you go listen to The Impossible Dream..for ex. you will get an idea of how good he was
@@jadezee6316 he’s still great! Like fine wine, he’s changed some but his voice has added a new dimension and is wonderful. Great entertainer as well, very funny!
And how many Grammy’s/Top 10 hits do you have? 😉
@@makthnife I once sang a duet with Bobby Darin on a Saturday night🕺🎶 "splish splash I was taking a bath 🌊 ...rub a dub just relaxing in the tub" 🛁 🎶 Does that count? 😋😉
I guess Gordon Lightfoot wasn't invited to play on Eddie's show..
Not bad but Gordon Lightfoot's version is king.
Not a good song selection for him - the opening sounds off key. Awkward time of transition for him: from Wives and Lovers to top-40 pop.
This song is a terrible fit for his voice.
